I have a feeling they will force them to sit out an entire calendar year if they do that.

Iowa State wrestlers will get a couple extra days to enter the portal because their new head coach was hired on April 16th. They get until May 6th to enter.

Once you get a new coach, you get an additional 20 days now.  There are a few other programs that are still going to be hiring a head coach this summer and will initiate such a period for their respective teams.

Huge penalties for the teams that allow that now.

Think he meant the bumps as a joke.

Correct, I think I mentioned that even. The joke being that we have entered the past few seasons with too much uncertainty/holes to be able to compete for trophies, and the staff didn't seem to have a plan.

please elaborate on the penalties

"On April 1, the Cabinet adopted a recommendation from the Football Bowl Subdivision Oversight Committee to automatically penalize schools for circumventing transfer rules and adding to rosters or playing "ghost transfers." The penalties — which apply to all sports, include a suspension of the team's head coach for 50% of the season and a fine equivalent to 20% of that sport's annual budget — are triggered automatically and expected to be self-applied by the schools."

“the Division I Cabinet adopted a proposal that penalizes programs that sign a transfer student-athlete, add a transfer student-athlete to a roster, or allow a transfer student-athlete to participate in athletically related activities before the student-athlete is entered into the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Penalties — which are automatically triggered — include a suspension of the respective sport's head coach for 50% of a season and a fine of 20% of that sport's budget.”

No way this survives the first lawsuit from an athlete

Not a transfer but, Ohio State picks up D1 heavyweight state champ, Cliff Nicholson from Medina. 47-1 and won a D1 championship.

Any of you Michigan based posters want to chime in on Thomas? What's the potential here?

Thomas was one of three trying to secure the spot at 184 for MSU.  He could not take control and did not wrestle in Big Ten tourney.  He could not beat their 197 , who is coming back and his back up.  When he hit the portal he did not garner a lot of interest from CMU or other MAC schools.   Hoping this change in scenery helps him.

Basically what he said. And then what he added. Potential is there, but MSU does not have a good wrestling room. Oregon State is a better fit IMO and I hope he reaches his potential

I think it will survive. They also added that all grad transfers also have to be in the portal by the end of the opening window for their sport. If not, there is another portal in December to enter to compete second semester.

I think it does too. We are going to see pendulum will swing back a bit from the wild west that crept in the last few years. The $$ has created an appetite for legislation and rules to protect the cash cow that is college athletics.

Eugene Harney, commits to @Pitt_WRES!

Sucks for Morgan State but this is the reality of it.

I have to imagine that chain gets tangled up in that chest hair more than not...

lol at portal guys "committing" to a new college/university.

Since just about all of them had a public commitment to their original school, just state "transferred" or "signed" because they've shown that their commitments mean shit...

That's a long list, that includes some of the best to ever, "commit."
