But all three is the winning formula!  Surprised all three aren't portaling out to Stanford.

Interestingly enough, he is showing loyalty to his brother in this.

True. Although, anywhere that will pay him a bag (which I assume he expects) would likely not take little brother. He couldn’t get out of the SoCon.

I also can’t imagine any team that’s chasing a trophy would pay him anything significant with his (and both bro’s) track record of dipping out after a loss. In a team race for a trophy, every point counts and MFF because you lost doesn’t bode well.

So what schools have the money AJ is looking for, aren’t in the hunt for a trophy, and that he hasn’t already screwed over/been dented by?

Out: OK State, Iowa, Nebraska, UNC, tOSU, Iowa State, Michigan, PSU.

My guess is VT. Pair him up with Bo Bassett.

I think Botero and Sement showed they were either at the wrong weight, they need another year (or two), or both.  Zepeda is ready now.

I believe Mendoza, Hilton, and Wolbert have showed signs up being contributors (~0.500 or better potential) next season as well.

Not sure on Wilson and Cosby as of now.  Leaning more 'needs time' than 'ready now' though.  Cosby is on the same sort of level and pedigree as Gates and I would out Wilson slightly lower than him (think Nate Limmex from Purdue a few years ago as peak).

In short, these guys will need to make the room for themselves and I don't know who goes where to do that.  Here is what I am thinking are everyone's best weights/next best, which doesn't mean they start

Botero - 125/133

Mendoza - 141/133

Sement - 141/149

Wolbert - 141/149

Wilson - 149/141

Hilton - 149/157

Zepeda - 149/157

Catrabone - 157/165

Gates - 157/165

Cosby - 157/165

Gilcher - 157/165

Lemley - 149/141

Unless Zepeda cannot make 149lbs, I think this is the best lineup next year:

125 - Botero

133 - Mendoza

141 - Lemley

149 - Zepeda

157 - Catrabone

165 - Gilcher

The only real worry towards qualifications there is Botero.

Edit:  I think there is a significant nonzero chance that Provo and/or Knox end up at Michigan as well, so there is that...

Don't forget Haakon Peterson (likely 165).  Undefeated 4X champ who didn't give up a takedown in his high school career.  Pre-med valedictorian type and has a very college ready style.

All signs seem to point at Anthony being the pacing item.  No Anthony means no AJ.

I don't think VT wants in. Especially not if Anthony is attached. Sasso could finish 6th with a good tournament, no need to spend on AJ.

Ignorance here in the form of a fellow message board poster...I am abundantly aware that Brands rubs people the wrong way (not entirely sure I would want to wrestle for him). I've gathered from this board (new here) that the vibe toward Wisconsin was that Reader was a huge piece of their puzzle...do people not like Bono for one reason or another? I feel like an idiot asking, but I'm tired of trying to read through the lines lol

I dont know about the exact details, but Bono and Askren don't seem to get along.  Askren and his brother run the AWA club in Wisconsin with Mesenbrink's father.  It is thought of as the top club in Wisconsin, but they won't send any guys to the Badgers (aside from the odd one or two, lower profile guys over the years).  It's been a shame that youth wrestling in Wisconsin has been thriving, while the college doesn't get to benefit from this at all.

@Badger Fan maybe could share more insight for us about recruiting the rest of the state.

Not sure on Wilson and Cosby as of now.  Leaning more 'needs time' than 'ready now' though.  Cosby is on the same sort of level and pedigree as Gates and I would out Wilson slightly lower than him (think Nate Limmex from Purdue a few years ago as peak).

In short, these guys will need to make the room for themselves and I don't know who goes where to do that.  Here is what I am thinking are everyone's best weights/next best, which doesn't mean they start

Botero - 125/133

Mendoza - 141/133

Sement - 141/149

Wolbert - 141/149

Wilson - 149/141

Hilton - 149/157

Zepeda - 149/157

Catrabone - 157/165

Gates - 157/165

Cosby - 157/165

Gilcher - 157/165

Lemley - 149/141

Unless Zepeda cannot make 149lbs, I think this is the best lineup next year:

125 - Botero

133 - Mendoza

141 - Lemley

149 - Zepeda

157 - Catrabone

165 - Gilcher

The only real worry towards qualifications there is Botero.

Edit:  I think there is a significant nonzero chance that Provo and/or Knox end up at Michigan as well, so there is that...

This is the exact type of discourse I came to this site/board for, thank you for the engagement.

I feel the same about pretty much everything you said here, and I can see an avenue for several 133 already in the portal, and Michigan really should be heavily looking at 125 guys. I’m not sure on Mendoza’s weight when he gets in, but I think he would be a great fit at 133 if he can make that cut without problems, but will eventually grow out of it. I wouldn’t be bothered to see them in the portal for 125, 133, 165, 197, and possibly HWT. 165 and HWT are less of a concern over who will be starting and being a big hole, and more about being competitive and having some depth/putting the best guys on the mat. Also, unclear as to how long Gilcher is out from injury and working back.

Pie in the sky, they grab Provo, Knox/Crookham, Endene, and shoot their shot at the other 2 weights mentioned. I like Sement to make a sizable 2nd year leap, but I think he benefits from sitting one more as well. Botero might not have much time on the mat if he can’t hit 125, unless mostly by default

Ever since Kish has become their coach, the team has been a revolving door of transfers - in and out - most of whom would go on to underperform.  Very odd all around.  Rosselli era was better than this IMO

My first thought.  It's not a great fit.  They have Stiles, Shaw, Deselle, and Cannon at 149/157.  Also, they are overloaded with talent in the lower weights with Kilkeary, Bouzakis, Davino, Mills, and Munaretto.  I figured one of those guys would move up to 141.

Would absolutely take Zepeda, but I don't think that makes a ton of sense for Michigan or Zepeda with their log jam at these middle weights. Prefer the method of "take everyone, figure out your lineup later" regardless, but this is a bit of a head scratcher for me, personally.

Mendoza, Wolbert, Lemley, Botero, Hilton, Sement, Wilson, Cosby, Catrabone...all names than populate that 133-157 weight range. Adding Zepeda strengthens this, but concerns me over guys like Sement and Wolbert, etc. Depending on weight gains and cuts, this is likely to push a guy or two to the portal, if true

I’d take Zepeda future over any of them.
