Obviously Mitchell has an extremely high attack rate, how do you even start to formulate a game plan??

I think you have to break it down which attack is his most successful? Let's start there.

I think you obviously know that Mitchell isn't going to pessure you in straight on, and if he does he will still use the straight on attack to get you to back up so he can get to a reattack from the side, this extra space usually gives him an allowance to make a quick step to one side and then he has a great attack at you from about a 45 degree angle from the side. His most successful- a shot to reattack misdirection double.

After thinking about it and watching how many times caliendo has tried to control Mitchell's side shot attacks by keeping him straight on and  (in the phone booth). I think instead you have to be moving more than mitchell you have to pick a directiion and continue to circle him faster than he can get ahead of it to try and mos direct you.

The other option is speed, I think if you were fast enough to move (on your knees) with him after his initial shot to counter his next shot  and then get to your feet and start working on a corner faster than him. If you were fast enough to know that after his initial shot he typically reaatcks from the right side and could beat him to it, that would take away most of his scoring.

The problem. He is Mitchell and he is better at more than just re attacks, he is great at pretty much everything. That's why I think you have to target what he is best at (reattacks) and then go from there.

The other problem- I dont know if anyone in the world is fast enough to counter the re-attacks.

I know the flo boys think that if you put a good ride on him that's the best way to wear him down. Maybe so. But that means you need to be on top and that doesn't happen much.

If you had to gameplan for someone like Mesenbrink where would you start? What would you do?

And if you think this thread is dumb just shame me, that way I don't make another one

Full of un-bias blasphemy.

I have a simpler plan:  Wyatt Hendrickson

Currently, there's no one in his weight class that can stay within striking distance to win a decision.

You go big.  Head huntin, hip toss, inside trip.  Any big move that gets you feet to back and working for a fall

No said nothing about weight class.  I provided a simple solution to the problem.  It only works because Pindrickson has a huge weight advantage but still speed.

Only guys that have kept it close or beaten him are uber elite athletes that have timed him breaking his stance (he does that a lot less now and shots to crowd you rather than lunging to close distance) and they deflect his pressure and circle (carr and JB did this the best). I think across all styles and levles he has 3 losses to Carr, 1 to JB and 1 to Takahashi since his freshman year. That is 4 Ncaa titles 8 world/olympic titles and Carr was mental lapses from beating Sidakov and Valiev this year. (I do not think JB could beat him anymore given Mitchell getting better and JB getting older) Takahashi has also wrestled less than stellar since senior worlds having lost to Aoyagi who mitchell beat and also took a few other losses since then. So I think the number of people in the world that can beat him at or around 165lbs is probably easily countable on 1 hand and may not actually exist, that remains to be seen until the open.

Do you think there is a better chance of getting him out of position or chancing him him out of position like JB and carr where able too, I know you said that he has improved since then. What do you think is more likely now?

You need a Jax Forrest to go head to head with him. The kid has the moves to stay with him & even counter some of his aggression. Too bad he is a lower weight class as it would be a very interesting match.

I think in freestyle you have a better chance of capitalizing on an extended shot with some form of exposure. I have yet to see someone in folk feed him him and cut corner and come out on top in a scramble. As far as hand fighting goes it seems like he has absolute control of where he wants to be he rarely hangs out in ties and has that head movement/lateral movement thing going on that seems to make it unbelievably hard to move him in any way that is going to open anything up for you. So eliminating those things I think your best bet is to try and time his head with clubs or shoulder pop him and hope that he does not compute the range  you are at or cheats his level up a bit and try and blow through him/get to a corner. That of course takes a super fast twitch fiber human being which generally lends to an inability to match his pace for 7 minutes. Ultimately I think its just going to take someone who is better at wrestling than him to a big enough degree that it makes up for the likelihood of you being dog tired and him not be for the final frame of the match. Only guys ever around his size that comes to mind to me in folkstyle would be Nolf/DT/JB/Dake.

I too think that you have to somehow beat his lateral movement. I feel like if you were good enough on defense to time his lateral movements and attacks that you could maybe wear him down, but you would likely get DQd for stalling by the time and opportunity presents it self. Too bad you can't train quickness, I think that's what it takes it someone with incredible speed. I think Jordan and care got it done with timing. MM is just a freak

The only person within a weight class would be Haines, and live goes are not public knowledge but LH will go north after this fall to bulk up to 86 for a year before 2028 trials and MM will stay down at 74. No one at the NCAA level is beating him. Maybe Duke by the end of next year but probably not. Shapiro isn't consistent enough to consider him more than a single one-off match before MM would consistently beat him. He deserves the Hodge over Mendez because the only question of MM is can you close it down to just a decision?

He is annoying as a person on the mat. He has a high IQ. He is quick, fast, and has great reaction twitch. He has plus positioning, plus defense, and plus riding. His match cardio is probably the best in all of college. He is... inevitable.

I feel gross and need to take a shower for what I just said.

In folkstyle the best path seems to be to ride him for 4 minutes then hope he forgets he just got ridden for 4 minutes.

But luckily the refs will call the other guy for stalling simultaneously as he is being taken down along with three other phantom calls. Unfortunately he doesn't need the Carl Gable call to save him until freestyle szn begins.

The best way to beat MM is to watch the Hamiti match.  MM won, but Hamiti was so close.  So, first thing is be 6'2", strong and flexible.   Then work on your cardio.

And also go back in time 2 yrs, taking away 2yrs of development MM has made. I’m sure Iowa’s Physics Dept has time travel figured out. Swing by the BioChem Dept (???) for the height, strength and cardio gains. Easy!!!

Three phantom Penn State officials would probably lead to three phantom calls.
