I’m glad this thread got bumped so we can all come back and tell @WrestlingRash how awful his opinion is…

I wanted to see if that genius would double down on his ceiling for Bassett being a 2x AA and 0x champ.

This is an incredibly self-serving point of view given that you know nothing about the kid. Maybe he wants to continue to go to school with his friends and doesn't have any desire to graduate early and rush into college as a small and extra young kid. Maybe Lu_Alum understands that you only get to be a kid once and that there is no reason to rush through school and into adulthood.

One of my cousins was a nationally ranked mathlete in high school and is the most intellectually gifted person that I have ever met.. he got one question wrong on the SATs which, ironically, was in math. He graduated at 18 despite the fact he could have graduated much earlier.

Or his kid doesn't have an IQ of 160+. Ridiculous exaggeration lol

I originally responded with hesitation when this thread was first made…I may not feel confident in his style but I will SIGNIFICANTLY increase my ceiling for him. He could certainly win 149.

Looks like the post that said Bassett “turns into Beau Bartlett when he wrestles anyone with a pulse” has been deleted.

Has anyone asked the athletes how they feel about being held back? I only remember RBY briefly talking about playing video games his extra year in his Flo doc.

I couldn’t imagine doing a single extra homework assignment, let alone a year. I didn’t start wrestling until HS so it was mostly fun/school spirit for me; I could imagine for blue-chippers, school and sport are more of an occupation.

I’d love to hear more from them about what those extra years feel like. Do other students care? Are they taking different classes? How do they perceive the timeline of adolescent life in comparison to us normal folks?

you are so obsessed its quite odd. you have my in your signature and you think about me during Bassett's matches. I guess I own you.

I didn't know the US Open was NCAAs. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Listen I want to clarify one thing. It is not evil to hold your kid back. I apologize. I have some dear friends who held their kids back. I just fully disagree with it. But it is legalized cheating. Like PEDs it most certainly gives your kid an advantage. There now back to Bo. He simply would not be a 4 time champ if he was 18 years old as a TRUE freshman. Instead he will be 20 years old as freshman in March 2027. But I like his chance to be a 4 time champ barring injuries. Who is gonna beat him by next March. He is the favorite. Same with 20 year old Merrill. Who is gonna beat him? I think we get 4 or 5 more 4 timers once this group of hold backs gets through the system. Then the new rules will make it much more difficult for that to happen. If of course they pass the new rules.

Thanks for the back-up, BruceyB.  It's a shame that @pokemonster thinks I'm blowing sunshine up everyone's @ss.  Here are the facts.  My wife is a surgeon who scored at the 99th percentile on her medical boards. I have an MS in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh. Combined, we make smart kids.

For @pokemonster's benefit, I attached the WISC-V test results for our kids (son and daughter). I've redacted names and gender from the reports. You can clearly see that one child rated at 160 and the other rated at 147 (this child did not take all of the sub-tests, which limits the potential for higher scoring). They are both the in the 99.9th percentile. The term for this is "Profoundly Gifted"; keep in mind this is different than 'highly-gifted' or 'gifted'.

My older child (a HS JR) scored 1520 and 1500 the two times they took the PSAT/NMSQT (1520 is perfect) - at a minimum they will be a National Merit Scholar semi-finalist. They also scored 36 on the combined ACT and 1590 on their first attempt at the SAT. This kid has not spent one minute taking exam prep courses or completing practice tests - they simply show up and take the tests. Side note: I don't have the ACT and SAT scores on my computer, but I can have my older child forward them to me if @pokemonster thinks it is necessary.

My younger child (7th grade) is currently taking AP Pre-Calculus and carries an A average in the class.

BruceyB is correct in that we want normal experiences for our kids. During COVID, we debated whether to enroll them at Davidson Academy (#4 nationally by US News & World Report) since Nevada residents can take courses remotely at no cost. We chose to keep them enrolled in our CCSD-zoned schools, which are very good, so they could have a normal public school experience.

I'm fairly certain that those who have met me through the annual NCAA contest will attest that I'm a reasonable individual, but from time-to-time I find that I have to put someone in their place when they suggest I'm full of sh*t. Same thing happened to me on the Lehigh board a few years ago when a blowhard alumnus from the late 1960s had a hard time believing a claim that my father beat Maryland NCAA champ Gobel Kline. I similarly put the blowhard in his place.

I'm even proud of those accomplishments!

Just to keep things in perspective, Bassett lost within the past year to the NCAA 4th place finisher at 133 pounds (Blaze) who bumped up to 65KG in freestyle.  And he only scored one point in the match.

Hmm.  Would BB win 133?

Assuming Henson comes back at 149, Luke Stanich would be the favorite over Bassett at 141 next year.

I haven't forgotten. He is better than I thought, but that only adds to my beef with him angle shooting age rules. If he had done it the right way, it would be much more respectable.

Yup, let's not forget he lost a match last year.  You gonna post this in another thread too?

He's also wrestled the 1st place finisher once or twice.  I bet he knows the answer.

Hmm.
