Agreed. Bassett couldn't beat a 137lb Marcus Blaze; he's getting steamrolled by SVN.

Just an amazing screen grab of Blaze's face

I would comfortably have him top 5. Valencia kinda got hosed last time they wrestled but thats freestyle where Valencia is much better. The Gaj and Buesgens matchups feel like they could be within the margins although I would favor Bo. Despite the margin of victory I would not pick Bo with a large semblance of confidence over Joy in a rematch without seeing it at least one more time, and as people mentioned SVN will match his pace and physicality which historically has given Bo issues. I do think interestingly despite being a smaller 149 he is much more of a lock to place highly at 149 than 141. Vega lost to him by 2 in free I would say they are both better at folk given Vega's match with Manville in folk vs free 6 months apart. Stanich has beaten him 3 times and Brock has beaten him once and then of course you have Jesse and I think Ech could be a tricky matchup for him if his cardio holds up.

I understand that kids who are held back are still eligible per the rules, I just think it's somewhat recent development that I don't like. I finished my sophomore year of college wrestling when I was still 19 years old. Didn't turn 20 for several more months.

@WrestlingRash has to have a poster of Bo Bassett hanging on his wall that he kisses every night before bed.

Thats the only explanation I have for this level of obsession...

If Bo Bassett doesn't ever do anymore than AA two times I will delete my whole ass account.....WrestlingRash sucks

They need to update rules for age not years. 18 for high school 22 for college. There is no reason for so many grown adults to still be competing as students. Read somewhere that a football player was approved for a 9th year. You are not a student athlete that long you are a professional at playing the game.

This is a rational take and acknowledges that it happens elsewhere. This is how you appropriately address the topic.

Don't single out an individual with commentary on the size of their genitalia. That shouldn't have to be stated.

The answer to this well known by some. Bo almost committed to PSU twice and he trained there plenty.

his teammate thought he could do it went for it. VT would have let him do it.

my guess is that he can’t beat SVN or at least he cannot do it with a high degree of certainty.

Pablo says:  more likely than not.

Bassett has 7 matches against D1 this year.  Pablo is impressed with the results.

Bo won’t be able to bully him. Without that, Bo has minimal offense.

Meh I don’t really consider Bo’s style to be “bullying,” his best comparison style-wise IMO is probably Mesenbrink, and I don’t consider him to be a “bully.”   Yes Bo is old for his grade but I don’t think he’s necessarily stronger than all the top HS guys, it’s moreso the pace IMO.  I’d probably favor SVN over him, but wouldn’t be surprised if Bo won that match.

When Bassett is against overpowered opponents, he may be Mesenbrink but when he hits someone with a pulse he turns into Beau Bartlett.

So Jaxon Joy doesn’t have a pulse?

You  can really tell who watches matches and who looks at scores.

Bassett scored off of a go behind off a Joy shot in the 1st period without ever touching Joy's legs.  Score off a go behind after a clash of heads (Joy should not have continued) and that TD probably should have been stopped.   Bassett didn't take a legit shot attempt the entire match.  Hardly Mesenbrink like.

You called him Beau Bartlett.  You can probably count on 2 fingers the number of times Beau Bartlett majored a top 10 guy, injured opponent/go behind or not.

Caleb Tyus not have a pulse either?

If VT felt the best move was to beat SVN and win 149 this year they wouldn't be redshirting Caleb Henson. Would they have allowed Bo to come early? Maybe but he would be at 141 so the decision doesn't have anything to do with SVN. Once Eddie Ventresca's medical got approved they decided to focus on 2027 as everything lines up for a really strong lineup. There wasn't any pressure for Bo to come early

Bartlett majored quit a few 0 time All Americans like you keep pulling out.  Bassett did beat Bartlett in an epic 1-0 freestyle match with no clock points since the official was clueless.

You are the one who started it by comparing him to Mesenbrink.  Find one match where Mesenbrink took 0 committed shots.

You said “he turns into Beau Bartlett.”  I said Mesenbrink is the best comparison for his style, I didn’t say he’s exactly like Mesenbrink.   He’s a lot closer to Mesenbrink than Bartlett, even when wrestling “someone with a pulse.”  Just rewatched the Joy match, even in that while he didn’t take many shots (I think there’s an argument 1:20 was a “committed shot” btw), he was always moving forward.

You do know he earned two stalling calls? Not saying he's Messenbrink but he was the aggressor before the clash of heads and after

Is this a Bob Dole thing -- speaking about yourself in third person?

Illeism (from Latin ille: "he; that man") is the act of referring to oneself in the third person instead of first person.

Have you ever watched Bo Bassett wrestle? Please show me 1 match he has ever wrestled that looked like a typical Beau Bartlett match. I have never seen him stand and play a defensive waiting game. You're welcome to prove me wrong. If you cite either close match he had with Zepeda then don't waste your time.

Watch him against Bartlett himself and tell me who the agressor was .

Bassett.  Bartlett’s only real shot was the initial sequence. After that and thinking he was winning he did basically nothing until the last 5 seconds of the match when he seemed to finally realize he was losing.  Bassett, despite actually having the lead, had committed shots at 1:40, 4:25, and 5:45.

I agree with what @1032004 said. Bassett was more aggressive in the hand fight and took more shots. Also, using as Bartlett as a much of him turning into "Beau Bartlett" isn't exactly a great example. Bartlett made Jesse Mendez very boring to watch as well.

In a time where we have a lot of top level guys relying primarily on defense and wrestling a very boring style, regardless of how you feel about Bassett's age and social media, the entire wrestling world should applaud the kid for wrestling everywhere, and letting it fly when he's out there. We're at a time when a lot of guys are way more worried about losing than they are about scoring and showing what they can do. Say whatever you want about Beau and the Bassett family, but he competes everywhere, he's not afraid to take losses, and he wrestles an aggressive and entertaining style.

Early on, I was not a fan of Beau Bassett with the social media and hypetrain behind him, but as time has gone on, I've changed my tune and really just appreciate him for always putting it on the line and almost always putting on an exciting show. I don't really care one way or the other on whether he wins or loses, but you know when you tune into a Bassett match, it's not going a let down like so many top match-ups are these days due to ultra-conservative wrestling.

There is an actual rule about how old you can be to compete in athletics and be eligible in PA. He's eligible so by definition he is not cheating. There is nothing subjective about said rule, it's in writing, so you can quit crying online (or continue I really don't care)

Bo Bassett barely makes the PIAA age cutoff (see below).  His birthday is in August, and he was born in 2006 so he will be 20 years old this summer, shortly after high school graduation.  That's basically the age of most sophomores in College.

In Pennsylvania, student-athletes competing in PIAA sports must not have reached their 19th birthday by June 30th immediately preceding the school year. Additionally, eligibility is restricted to four consecutive years beyond the eighth grade. For junior high (grades 7-8), the age limit is 15.

See this is fucked because Jesse Mendez will graduate @ 22 years old with at least two natties under his belt. If his parents took the easy route he’d be a 4 time champ.

Not really in wrestling (or a lot of sports) though, there are tons of holdbacks.  With an August birthday if he was not held back at all he would be the youngest in the grade.   Being held back once would make him older than non-holdbacks but not by much.  Yes, being held back twice makes him older than pretty much everyone in HS, but assuming he does not redshirt then he’ll really be back on a similar playing field as many D1 wrestlers.   The guys that finish their NCAA eligibility at 22 are more of the exception then the rule.

Haines will graduate as a 21 year old.

Jayden James is in the same boat. He’s 17 and about to graduate. Melvin Miller (who he beat) is a year older than him but a grade behind him, and Miller catches all of the hype.
