What's the deal with Nasir Bailey? He's not in the probables for Ok State. Has not wrestled in the last 4 duals. Did he lose the starting spot? Also, wrestlestat has Peterson as the starter.

I think his hands/fingers are all screwed up. Can't remember exactly what happened in a match I watched, but I wanna say his finger popped out multiple times.

Fan bias

But also, I feel like these are pretty much toss up matches, and it seemed like Iowa won most of the toss up matches last time. Brands track record unfortunately doesn't follow my process. I think Williams knows how to stay of of scrambles (robiduexs strong suit, by going upper body), kueter I think is gonna be going into Sv or something stupid

This is pretty heavy bias.  Robideau is #5 and 13-1.  Williams is #14 and 7-6.  Not sure even the biggest Iowa homer would see that as a toss up match.

All said. I could see this getting out of hand for the hawks, so if GIA gets nuts after a Jax Forrest win, who knows that could happen for the cowboys. They could wipe the mat with the hawks

You it 19-16 for Iowa.

Another way to look at it is order of most likely to win for each team down through ~50/50% chance.  OSU heavily favored in 3 weights (bonus expected) and Iowa favored in 2.  Reasonable to see remaining individual matches could go either way but home mat advantage.  OSU prob needs to win 2 of the 5 and Iowa 4 of the 5.

OSU

141- Vega (2) over K Peterson:  md - pin   5pt

197- Merrill (7) over Sampson:  md - tf   5pt

157- Robideau (5) over Williams(14)/Voinovich:  d - md  4pt

165- Lockett (2) over Caliendo (4):  d   3pt

It does not make much sense to me to bring back Ferrari for a non-conference dual instead of giving him that extra time to be ready for the Big 10's but - then again - what do I know?

Picks from the heart

125 - Spratley looks like the better wrestler the whole match but Deans in tiebreakers. 3-0 Iowa

133 - it pains me to pick against Jax who might be my favorite wrestler but I gotta go with my boy, the dirty dodge drive by. 6-0 Iowa

141 - Vega, but he doesn't push for bonus, thankfully. 6-3 Iowa

149 - Swiderski has been wrestling comparatively better but might be out? 9-3 Iowa

157 - Williams gives up midway through. Rawbidet pushes for a tech late. 9-7 Iowa

165 - Caliendo gets back on track. 12-7 Iowa

174 - I fear this goes into overtime and is incredibly boring. Don't have that much confidence in Kennedy but he has history on his side in this matchup. 15-7 Iowa

184 - Gabe should win against the backup but he will keep it annoyingly close. 18-7 Iowa

197 - Merrill doesn't score alot of bonus, but he will get the major against Iowa. 18-11 Iowa

285 - No fate in Keuter. He has shown 0 fight. 18-14 Iowa.

Jeez, how likely is that to happen?

Good stuff, and an interesting way of looking at the matchups. I'm still wondering how Brands will want to play this. He's not one to sit his guys out, BUT

  • it's a non-conference dual (albeit a big one)
  • Iowa won at ND so this is gravy
  • he's caught heat over the years for grinding his guys into the postseason
  • he's under a lot more pressure (from the fanbase) to show some results at Nationals
  • odds a bit against Iowa with -Ferrari  -Endene magic, and +Jax, +Vega on a tear lately (bonus), -Ryder on the other side

I'll be in the corner near my banana  buddies 🍌 just above the Iowa entrance.  If you see an Iowa wrestler slip and fall coming out of the tunnel that was probably me.  🍌

Are the wildfires in OK & KS a concern? I assume Stillwater is too far away to be affected but the photos look pretty nasty. I hope everyone's all right.

Im not there yet but fires well to the west not a concern for this event.  Stillwater did have bad fires a year ago.

Better get there early if you’re in GA. My daughter has a student ticket and they expect to be SRO. It’s going to be raucous with three extra hours of tailgating!

If Ferrari doesn't wrestle, that's another weight where Iowa won't allocate a spot for the BIG since it will be 30 days since he wrestled, making him ineligible for the coaches' poll and he doesn't have enough matches for RPI.

Does he need to "allocate " a spot?

It could also end up biting them if he would be forced to mff out out of BIGs for some reason and he finishes out of the auto qualifiers.

This is my worry as well. When do they typically come out with the #of allocations at each weight by conference?

Back in November Iowa and OSU faced off in the National Duals Semifinals with Iowa squeaking by with the win.

Iowa 18, Oklahoma State 16: Iowa Wrestling Wins

125lbs: Dean Peterson (Iowa) vs. Troy Spratley (Oklahoma State): Peterson wins by Dec 5-4
133lbs: Drake Ayala (Iowa) vs. Ronnie Ramirez (Oklahoma State): Ayala wins by Dec 7-4 SV
141lbs: Nasir Bailey (Iowa) vs. Sergio Vega (Oklahoma State): Vega wins by Dec 3-0 SV
149lbs: Ryder Block (Iowa) vs. Casey Swiderski (Oklahoma State): Block wins by Dec 5-3
157lbs: Victor Voinovich III (Iowa) vs. Landon Robideau (Oklahoma State): Robideau wins by MD 16-5
165lbs: Michael Caliendo (Iowa) vs. LaDarion Lockett (Oklahoma State): Lockett wins by Dec 7-3
174lbs: Patrick Kennedy (Iowa) vs. Alex Facundo (Oklahoma State): Kennedy wins by Dec 4-1 SV
184lbs: Angelo Ferrari (Iowa) vs. Zack Ryder (Oklahoma State): Ferrari wins by Dec 4-2
197lbs: Massoma Endene (Iowa) vs. Cody Merrill (Oklahoma State): Endene wins by Dec 4-3
285lbs: Konner Doucet (Oklahoma State) vs. — : Doucet wins by For 0-0

A lot has happened this season and both teams now look VERY different.

OSU had added Jax Forrest to their lineup, while Iowa has lost Endene. OSU has steadily improved and trended upward while Iowa has suffered some of the most demoralizing losses we've ever seen from the program.

I'm predicting a blow out win for OSU, showcasing both the David Taylor effect and how Iowa peaks early and then fades during the 2nd half of the season.

Prediction -

125 Spratley dec Dean 3-0. Spratley was in control, but had a brainfart at the end of their first meeting. I dont see that happening again.

133 Jax dec Ayala 6-0. Jax is another superfrosh added to the mix of superfrosh.

141 Vega dec Bailey 9-0. Vega is the real deal. Still unbeaten. It would not surprise me if he knocks off Mendez at NCAAs.

149 Swiderski dec Block 12-0. Swiderski wrestled very poorly at National Duals. He seems to be in better form now.

157 Robideau dec Williams 15-0. Williams has been underwhelming compared to expectations. Robideau wins a controlled match

165 Lockett dec Calliendo 18-0. Lockett pulls out another squeaker.

174 Kennedy dec Facundo 18-3. Kennedy has Facundo's number. I dont see that changing.

184 Ryder dec Arnold 18-6. Ferrari won't return until BigTens. Ryder squeaks past Arnold. If Ferrari is here, give Ferrari an OT win or a 1 point decision in regulation.

197 Merrill dec ?? 21-6. Merill beats whomever Iowa sends out.

285 Doucet dec Kueter 24-6. Kueter has looked disinterested this season. Doucet win a solid win.

125 - Peterson dec Spratley - Iowa 3 - 0 OSU

133 - Jax dec Ayala - Iowa 3 - 3 OSU

141 - Vega dec Bailey - Iowa 3 - 6 OSU

149 - Swiderski dec Block - Iowa 3 - 9 OSU

157 - Robideau dec Williams - Iowa 3 - 12 OSU

165 - Caliendo dec Lockett - Iowa 6 - 12 OSU

174 - Facundo dec Kennedy - Iowa 6 - 15 OSU

184 - Arnold dec Ryder - Iowa 9 - 15 OSU

197 - Merrill maj Sampson - Iowa 9 - 19 OSU

285 - Doucet dec Kueter - Iowa 9 - 22 OSU
