It seems like Oklahoma is a program falling down hard. Half their lineup are transfers, several red shirting, including Gioffre, and zero development from any. They also have lost several recruits and starters the past couple years to Juco Oklahoma City. What is going on in Norman?

They should focus on the in-state talent now that OSU recruiting has gone national.  Seems like a nice opportunity there.  A guy like Routledge is the type of recruit they need to lock down in the future.

Why would in state talent want to go to OU? Who was the last guy that showed development at that program?

When the Sooners are better it helps wrestling in the State and the conference.  The B12 would benefit greatly with a another nationally competitive team, and if it were the Sooners the marketing machine would go into full effect.

Right or wrong, the Sooners will have to make a coaching change to try and recruit and develop talent.  It just seems like they are stagnant.

This is only Kish 3rd season , he brought in some solid transfers and the 2026 class has the #24, #27, #32, #41, #62, #98 ranked recruits. Hipalito will be back. Soldano might get another year and they have Harris in redshirt this year . Things are going in the right direction

I hope so and agree. Good for the sport. Kish is a solid hire.

It’s crazy that ou is the closest D1 to the state of Texas and hasn’t had the recruiting success they’ve had in their other big sports, men’s gymnastics and softball.

I thought they did good in the portal somewhat. Hipolito was a hell of a portal get imo. And anyone who thinks he wasn't gonna be top 10 guy this year is crazy. They got a heavy weight from Iowa.

Hip got hurt and there seems to be no development in other weights.

BUT, that can happen at programs when you don't have a stud in the lineup, hipolito being healthy would certain up the competition in there middleweight is in there room, but since he is injured you just have a bunch of mid level guys so to development slows imo

Full of un-bias blasphemy.

I agree 3rd year and was basically from scratch, Had to get their kind of guys in there. For development I’d say Schubert,I know 1 year at Cal Bap, has elevated nicely. Harris is redshirting but looks to be developing well…. Have done a good job recruiting, The incoming class looks really good, Ontiveros recently has raised his stock. The program has NIL money and is building. I can tell you talking to a parent of a recent transfer, From a big program, They said if they would’ve found OU earlier it would’ve been a no brainer, The coaches are all in and committed to their guys. I see them as a solid top 10 team in a couple years, let Kish cook.

Hipolito went 1-2 at 2025 NCAAs. Soldano is a combined 2-4 in two NCAA trips. I'm not sure these are the dudes to take OU to the next level. I'm just saying.

I mean Hip was 17-5 and the 4th seed as a Freshman last year.  He may not have breeze through NCAAs in his first year, but he's a damn fine addition to the room and would've likely scored some decent team points this year.  I expected him to push close to AA or better this year if he'd have stayed at VT.

I agree. When I saw him in the portal I really felt like there was gonna be some bigger schools after him, Iowa was shopping for a 157, and I feel like he would have been a better option than williams

I am probably paraphrasing wrong, but I think there was some thought that he was wanting to move closer to family near Maryland, and the expectation was that he was going there.  We weren't thrilled but 'understood.'  Then OU came in with a last minute bag and he switched gears.  Who knows what's true and what's not.  Either way, I still like watching him wrestle.  He's got a fun style and puts himself in tough spots to score.  Bridging from Andonian to him was something I was excited for.  I'll still root for the guy!

It is a whole new style of wrestling, watching him impart bjj moves that he mixed into folk style is amazing.  Watching the kids he wrestles faces when he hits some of his blended moves is hilarious too. He wrestles with a style that traditional technique just doesn't work on all the time.

I get your point. But I think his #4 seed was pretty inflated. His best win on the year was a 20-15 (very weird match) over Fish. But even with that win, he had 0 wins over guys seeded inside the top 11 (Fish was 12 seed). He also had a loss to Paniro (who went 2-2 at 149), and a loss to #24 seed Dylan Evans.

But for a freshman season, not a bad record at all.

Soldano was down 9-0 to Fox of UNI and then Injury Def. Also a Beric Jordan sighting. He lost by fall to Farber.

Fox may be pretty good it turns out. OU won the dual. UNI wrestles hard but they don't have the firepower they had last year

He took what was probably his one and only chance to move up from NDSU.  When you’re the 4th or 5th choice for a job nobody else wanted you better have a solid game plan and it better work and fast.   He burned bridges badly on his way out of Fargo and had to watch Obe Blanc lead one the wrestlers he left behind to AA status ly while he had none.   A karma sammich that had to taste terrible.  I’m guessing he’s gone soon.
