Miller might score a few points as would Herring since 141 isn't deep either. 45 points has them in the running for top 10. And Offarill could go 1-2 maybe. Prob win on the backside and score half a point but

peanut Posted February 27 Author Posted February 27 VT next year could be: 125- Ventresca 133- Seidel 141- Bassett 149- Henson 157- Gaj/Nininger 165- Burton/Church (Miller?) 174- Transfer? 184- Transfer? 197- Sasso 285- Mullen That's a strong team.

How does Ventresca have another year? RS + medical RS?

I’m fairly certain he grey shirted too but not a 100% though. If so, he should have a doctorate degree by the time he leaves VT

Simpleman424 Posted February 27 Posted February 27 I think it’s interesting to see the results to the pinned question. A 44 to 7 (yes/no) ratio when the majority of us aren’t even Hokie fans is telling of a lot of things. The respect for the VT program, the disdain for seeing these elite guys go to PSU and OK State AND its just nice to not see a bunch of homers say no because he should go to (insert their school).

Desiante and Bullock both have another year at 174/184 but wouldn't be surprised to see Burton move up to 174. Without accounting for any transfers and possibly Melvin Miller this is pretty accurate.
CoachDoss11 Posted March 1 Posted March 1 If I'm involved in V-Tech, I'm going to the boosters and doing some major money talking and recruiting. Imagine if they recruited, stole or borrowed via NIL some absolute studs at 174 and 184. I'd also think that Gaj goes 49 and Henson takes 57 and Miller joins at 65. That lineup may create a lot of noise and problems.
Dan-by Taco Posted March 1 Posted March 1 In 26-27, I think you might see, 25 Vantresca, 33 Dillon Campbell, 41 Seidel, 49 Bo, 57 Caleb, 65 Gaj or Melvin, 74 Burton or Desiante, 84 Transfer (could they get Jaxon?)97 Sasso, 285 Mullen. I could be wrong but I don't think Bullock has another year. Gaj moving up 2 weights might be wrong but I hear he can bulk when needed and 49 is a tough cut. With Ethan Miller in Blacksburg maybe he liked it enough to let his former teammate know (J Smith). Even if Seidel stays at 33, Bo to 41, and Caleb stays at 49 that is a fun team, and a trophy contender.

Melvin at this point isn't big enough for 165 in college. Wouldn't rule out Gaj/Melvin at 57 and Nininger going up to 65 if Burton goes 74. Jaxon and Caleb run camps together in their hometown during the offseason so there are definitely connections.

I agree, at this point Melvin is ideal at 57, that is one reason I don't think he comes out early. I think he trains in Blacksburg quite a bit but will stay in school. No inside knowledge, just an educated guess. Yes, Nininger is a guy some don't think about but he is said to be really solid. You'll see some form of bulk job or mixture of Gaj/Burton in the lineup. I used to think Bo goes 41 and Caleb goes 49 again, but with the heavy concentration of talent toward the light/middle, by bumping a few up, it might get another good one in the lineup. Being an all in year at VT, Seidel will need to be in play, I'm guessing 41 since he's long but great "problems" to have down there.
creek chub Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Ninniger is likely the starter at 57. Maybe Weader at 65. Burton will almost certainly bump to 74. Hopefully a 84 transfer or Wright rejoins the team. Gaj should redshirt. Seidel will likely hold 33 one more season or shirt and insert Campbell back at 33. Salty lineup!

You may know more than I, but I can't see redshirting Seidel in an all in year. Henson would have been an extremely likely finalist and good chance champ this year. By redshirting him, I think you see the best lineup possible in 26-27. Campbell was good and a nice surprise, Seidel is on another level imo. I think you see Seidel, Bo, and Caleb in the lineup at the same time. With that being said, I agree with a lot of your VT posts and we will see what Robie, Frayer, Tenelli, and Haught have in mind in time. I know you did not say Seidel for sure redshirting, just providing context to my opinion. They will have to get creative with the light and middle weights in the coming years as you suggested. Highly doubt Robie is going anywhere but let’s play along. Robie takes the Iowa job. VT AD would offer the HC job to Frayer. Tanelli would likely get a big bump and leave for Iowa City if Iowa allows Robie to build his own staff. Good chance the VT Athletic Dept would give more resources to Robie if there is war for his services. We couldn’t compete with a potential Iowa offer, but the hope is Robie would stay for less as long as there is an increased commitment to the program. Frayer would likely get the same kind of support in the event we lose Robie. Good chance Frayer keeps most of the middleweights including Caleb which is the strength of the lineup. Maybe Iowa would poach lighter weights with Tanelli. Doubt Robie would take Haught, so the upper weights would stay in Blacksburg. Also, Robie would go the Dresser route and not gut the program like Brands did. Edited March 2 by VTDante

Definitely will be a few good wrestlers not able to crack the lineup but indeed it's a good problem to have.
