  1. I agree with you HokieDave. Knowing Bo a little or even casual observers can see, he definitely will want to go up against #1 right out of the shoot. The best option might, and I mean 'might' be to skip the dual and rest some after 3 worlds, US open, final x, summer, etc. He is known to be anytime, anyplace, anywhere MG mindset. Getting Luke to agree to the AS is awesome and I would think that means they likely won't go in the dual. This young man may wrestle #1 twice in a month, who knows, but my guess is his debut will be in Cassell on Nov 19.
  2. Seidel is not expected to move up until Henson graduates is the last I’ve heard. VT has a pretty entertaining lineup. 125 Vantresca 133 Seidel 141 Bo 149 Henson 157 Gaj 165 Nininger 174 Burton 184 Desiante or Bullock 197 Sasso 285 Mullen
  3. VA to SC is spot on with what I'm hearing around Blacksburg. Bullock is still in the mix at 84, I guess. I heard he graduated and is done, then hearing he is in the room. I think the above lineup will be the main one for the season with some depth guys at various weights like Gorman, Church, Garcia, Rocha still getting reps. This is a fun team.
  4. I agree with you on the late redshirt, for the most part guys lose the edge it seems. Ridge Lovett took a late redshirt, got 6th but was a or the top guy most of that year (had a semi-slide at NCAA's) after the Henson loss. Then won it the following year...I believe those were years' 5 and 6 after his RS. I think you are generally correct, just a lot of Nebraska talk on here and he stuck out in my memory. I don't see it likely Meyer ends up there but I have no inside information. I am thinking maybe UNC.
  5. I think you'll see Seidel at 33 one more year. That would be an optimal chance at being a finalist or national champ especially if Jax is 41. I understand the cut is said to be hard but he had plenty of tank throughout, although many matches ended early. Then after Caleb graduates Seidel up to 41, and Bo to 49. Next year for the all-in year, I think he can pull it for the back to back to back Seidel, Bo, Caleb. If Caleb wants to go 57, then it can all change.
  6. I would say IF Seidel makes 33, a guy who had 90% bonus-ish, majored and shut out Ayala (yea I know he wasn't the runner up as in years past) but still very good and 5th, beat Blaze worse than Davino did and gave Jax his toughest test (in the dual) and finished 3rd would qualify as a "contender." 2 things, IF he makes 33 again, and hearing Jax to 41, would potentially make Seidel the favorite or a favorite along with Davino and a healthy Crookham? I might be forgetting someone. I think calling Henson the favorite isn't way out of bounds. I see the point that SVN is still there and Valencia but Henson already has a first and a 2nd to Ridge only losing 1-0 on an escape point. OK, maybe not THE favorite but certainly one of a few likely finalists. As far as Bo, I would put him in the top group immediately. Too much of a track record beating the Valencia's, whether free or folk albeit close. I understand the pump the brakes, hasn't wrestled a college match but I would put him immediately in the high AA contender already as he has beaten many top guys in the sport already and has wrestled in so many great competitions, anything short of high AA would be a surprise to me.
  7. Thank you MJD. I certainly can’t argue President Trump doesn’t ramble through speeches lol. What I would suggest is he tries to fix problems that he believes need solving and often has many things going. Whether we agree or disagree on policies I appreciate your civility in your opinion.
  8. The President knows This will be challenged and overturned. I think it is to get the ball rolling on common sense dialogue. 7, 8 year guys pushing high 20s is not in the spirit of collegiate competition in my opinion whether it benefits my school or not. An age or year of play seems more enforceable over the transfer rule. I liked the thought of 1 transfer then another would cost a year. I’m sure it’s not fair to some but every year free agency is not healthy either imo. I think many of us don’t like the rent a player mindset but know it’s part of the game now. It would be nice to solve some of these issues and he was getting the discussion going. Unlike the last guy, he can multi-task. As GV4444 stated, unlikely he spent time on this. It’s a problem many believe, he has people try to solve it, then puts out a solution or to create dialogue. Even fans of big programs seem to not like small schools recruit, develop, then lose their guy, it’s not good for the sport imo. Young men have been offered opportunities to make money and it’s tough to regulate but many of us believe some guard rails are needed. Wrestling doesn’t make lots of money (most programs) at the current rate many opportunities will be lost, many stories will be gone, as we could have 5 super programs and everyone else punches out of the sport.
  9. My thought from the very start was it would create more stalling. You get a 2 point lead it takes even more stall calls to even things up. If you are only ahead by 1, a warning then a point ties it up, so you can't stall as much imo. Guys seem reluctant to go for it and give up an easy go behind even more so. After watching a while I see it as it helps with guys going for bonus points and makes it much easier to major or tech so maybe helps the dominant guys stay active, but seems to create more 1-1 SV matches too. I have not done any study or numbers so not scientific just a feel I have.
  10. I think you are correct in wondering. The word in Blacksburg is Melvin is not expected to do a Jax of course who knows for sure. With regard to a transfer, my guess and guess only is if the right 74 or 84 enters the portal, VT would consider it. I'm not aware of any real intel, but I know VT fans are hopeful that Jaxon Smith enters the portal at 84. As far as 65, I'm pretty sure they are happy with Burton's progress.
  11. I do not think you'll see Church in the lineup again. They do need a 65 but they are high on Burton and that is his listed weight, so he would start over Church imo. If one of the good 49-57s are able to go 65 (big ask) then maybe Burton moves to 74.
  12. I don't disagree, Seidel is pretty big. One problem is Gaj probably moves to 57 which he's a big 49 but they really want to get Nininger in the lineup too, who is also 49. Maybe one of those can get to 65 and move Burton to 74? Lots of talent from 33-57.
  13. The 2 wrestle completely different styles. Funky unconventional v Aggressive non-stop handfight. Bo could go 49 if Henson goes 57 but I think for the first year, we may see Bo at 41 then move up the following years. Good friends and HS teammates, I'm guessing they know all of each others moves. Who do you think would win and how?
  14. The first match was excellent. Seidel 3 takedowns, Jax with a 7 point move. OK, maybe not match of the year but in the discussion, will this one be close and high scoring or one sided?
  15. Agree entirely, if that happens I think Seidel goes up to 41. I hear 33 is pretty legitimate cut for him. Campbell then stays at 33 and not a sure fire AA by any stretch...he is pretty good and with some work could threaten AA or R12 IMO.
  16. Great Question. IMO, if Seidel can stay at 133 you keep him there. I would be surprised to see Aaron at 33, 2 years from now, he's pretty big, so then Campbell might get back in. Campbell was a nice surprise but Gaj in the lineup (if he doesn't shirt) should be slightly more valuable. Another good thing is no hole at 125 for next year, Vantresca should be back if he chooses, medical shirt the year Cooper Flynn started as Eddie was out after just the first month of the season if my memory is correct. Also Desiante is in the mix at 74 and as someone who watches VT, he is a quick guy with good leg attacks, just needs to improve on finishing and a touch on his tank. Also, I think Melvin comes in as a day one starter at 57, in 27-28 then would eventually go to 65. I am referring to 26-27 year in general, if you are asking 27-28' I think they have a good 25 coming in as well as potentially Keegan Bassett if he chooses to follow his brothers, but he might be 3 years down the road, not certain.
  17. I should say also, VTDante is on point too. Bo has said in numerous interviews he will do whatever the team needs weight wise. Robie has not speculated much because we are in the 26 season and will need to see all the results including nationals before figuring what is best for VT and what is best for the individual wrestler. I have also heard the rumor of Jax Smith for 84 but that could be simply a hope. He is said to be buddies with Caleb so it seems like a good idea on paper after Ethan Miller scouted things as well. Whatever happens, VT will be must watch in 26-27 and for a few years to come when Melvin joins.
  18. This was my post on "does Iowa's finals streak end" thread Caliendo, if the 2 or 3...Problem is, he has more losses than Blaze, did not win his conference, and an important factor is the head to head loss v Blaze. I was thinking the head to head might carry more weight than finishing 2nd v 3rd at Bigs. I realize Blaze didn't even get to him at the tournament but I don't think the formula cares, the head to head already happened and it was a loss. I think Mikey is probably the 2nd best guy at 165 but the formula might put him to the 4, since conference titles seem to carry weight in the formula. If he gets the 3, I like him in a rematch and continuing the streak. The rematch with Blaze is the best shot, and I think Caliendo wins the rematch.
  19. Brucey B and OwenRector look correct to me. Seidel is pretty big for 33. There will be no punt next year, it will be an all-in year to get Bo and Caleb in the lineup at the same time and make a trophy run. Many on here are correct, Gaj can easily go up to 57, Nininger too. Don't expect Melvin to "Jax." It'll be tough if Gaj has a big tournament to shirt him next year but its likely to get Nininger in the lineup. The initial talk in Blacksburg was Bo to 41 (not hard) and Caleb to stay at 49. After the Caleb wrestled freestyle this year some talk changed a bit. Caleb might go 57, if so, expect Bo to probably go 49 but he still could go 41 and have Gaj or Nininger go 49. If Bo does go 49, expect Seidel to be the one to go up to 41 and Campbell back in at 33. A bit exhausting but several good guys around the 33-57 weight. After Caleb graduates things slightly thin out but great problem to have. Burton will take over for Church at 65 imo and Crook will only go occasionally. No offense to those guys but guys with more talent around them.
  20. Going back a few years, Ty Walz
  21. PJ Duke pound for pound Hunter Catka Enchemendia
  22. I like Nolf, a lot. If i heard it correctly he was saying you have tough matches from the start at Bigs and at nationals you might get a break by wrestling weaker other conference guys. I realize he was just pumping up the Big10 as the "premiere" conference, which it is but maybe not the best guy to deliver this...We all know little ole' ACC guy Hayden Hidlay won that match or at minimum was a takedown. Nolf said it himself, i knew i was taken down. Maybe he comes back and wins but i don't think he would have. HH was unreal that year. He also mentioned Vincenzo...yea the one that got cradled up by another ACC afterthought a the time...#8 Mekhi. This is a little tongue and cheek but just a mention. I do think it was silly to suggest there aren't any lower level guys at BIGS. I do think nationals is harder,...more weigh ins, more unfamiliar foes, more matches, obviously he would know but I think he was just being a little hyperbolic since he won more nattys
  23. Sinclair has the offense.
  24. Brock Hardy comes to mind. I'm not a Nebraska guy but Brock is good, wrestles hard, scrambly, fun to watch, respectful, and complimentary to his opponents. I don't know him personally at all but seems like a class act.
