So "trashing bassett is funny and well deserved" is the level of your "standards for what is acceptable"?

you need professional help

age cheaters who do an 80 school countdown to name their future college deserve trashing because they are cheating cheeseballs.

If he wants to maximize his chances of winning an individual title, he should stay in school or take an RS.

Unfortunately this is the right answer. He can beat anybody once, sure, but he's got room to improve and he needs to be at his best to run through the gauntlet of NCAA's. Bo on the other hand seems ready right now.

His ankle pick is amazing, and his motor is legit, but he seemed to get frustrated when his standard wasn't working against James.  A more well-rounded offense will be very helpful against a strong defense that's focused on his main attack.  I'd expect more time in the VT room will help that.

I'm not sure he can beat anybody once.  I have a really hard time believing that he would hang with Mesenbrink at 165.

His best bet is to stay in high school and let the Dukes of the world graduate and hope James grows too big for them to meet up again.

Remember he's playing up in weight very frequently.  I don't even think 165 lb would be his legit weight that he'd go to as of today.  He may be there by next year, but today, with appropriate S/C and weight management, he looks to be a 157.  I'd put him top 3-5 today at 157 lb.  Fast forward to a year in the room with Henson/Andonian/Burton/Gaj/Nininger, and that's a top 3 level talent.  He'll grow into 165 lb I'm sure, but if he went next year, 157 lb would be the likely spot.

If you’re a truly elite high schooler, I’m not sure it makes sense to wait for a weight class to clear out.

There’s no guarantee you’ll get much better, injuries can happen, motivation can be drained, and life circumstances can make wrestling more difficult. Plus there is always the possibility of a younger world-beater entering your weight class in a few years.

IMO truly elite athletes may as well let it fly and let the chips fall where they may.

Top 3-5 at the D1 tournament as a hs junior? That’s crazy talk, he still takes an occasional lose at the high school level. Currently PJ Duke is 3, Ty Waters #4, defending ncaa champ Taylor #5 , Robideau # 6, Meyer Shapiro #7, Vinny Zerben #8, Kannon Webster #9…he isn’t beating any of those guys right now

James is bigger and that was a great match, 50/50. He had no trouble with Cannon at 157. Duke would take him 8/10 times right now, but like I said Melvin has plenty of room to get better - I personally think he'll make a big leap after one year in the VT room. He's also got room to get better physically. He's also way under 165, he's barely a 157 if he's wrestling optimal weight so the MM comparison is irrelevant.

You act like he's not at one of the top HS programs in the country and a room that's turning out more stars than VaTech.

C'mon. McCort is very good but let's keep these arguments reasonable.

Needs some time in a college weight program and his offense will open wide up. He can already get to that underhook set up pretty well, spend a little time with frayer he'll be doing a lot more than picking ankles.

To claim that McCort/Compound/YoungGuns isn't at least equal to VaTech's room is laughable.  McCort put a kid on the Senior world team for chrissakes.  Who has VaTech put on freestyle teams?

For many years Wyoming Seminary's room was better than most college rooms.

That kid McCort put on the senior team got a lot better when he started flying to Stillwater every week. Also, isn't it odd that Iowa not helping Bo train at the RTC was a breaking point in that whole commitment? McCort's head coach wanted his kid in a college room. Bo ultimately spent his preseason primarily in Blacksburg. I'm very pro-McCort and they do a great job but it doesn't match a top 10 college room.

He beat #1 Brandon Cannon already

Cannon had a big win in November over Taylor and since then the only guy with a pulse he’s beaten is Charlie Millard, I don’t think many believe he’s the #1 guy at 157. Pretty good chance he’s in the a dog fight with someone in the R12 then him wrestling on Saturday night

If one was really generous, one could call Va Tech a top 10 room as they didn't finish in the top 10 last year even with Henson making the finals.

Fine. Top 12 college room. Even with that pesky Henson sneaking his way into the finals. Maybe they can get crack top 10 if he does it again next year.

The occasional loss...his only 2 losses since his freshman year were to Lockett and James.

If they had Jax and Herring, they'd have a shot at the top 10.  18-20 each from Forrest and Bassett isn't impossible if Bassett is at 149 since it's so weak.  Miller might score a few points as would Herring since 141 isn't deep either.   45 points has them in the running for top 10.

That would be crazy.  I wish they would let the top high school team into the NCAA tourney.  Would be fun to see

Why don't we just try Midlands, Scuffle or Vegas first?
