Of course, but there aren't that many residents on the island.  This is only $6-7b, which makes it cheap relative to a war.  The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan cost in the trillions.

If the USA could acquire Greenland for $100000/resident that would be like buying an island 1.5x the size of Alaska for $12.50/acre.  not bad.

I'd hate to see them cave. It would seem great for them in the short run but we'll take advantage of them in long run. Their kids would suffer.

There is probably a way this could be a win-win. Greenlanders could get $$ and greater economic development.  US gets access to natural resources and the ability to build military installations. 

Where I think it fails is that I can't see Republicans making statehood part of the deal.  Greenlanders lean left so this would be Republicans shooting themselves in the foot politically.  If conservatives really believe the great replacement theory why would they give 60k foreigners the political power of a state?

Ifin I were a Greenlander no statehood would be a nonstarter.  I think more Greenlanders desire independence over remaining with Denmark or becoming part of the US.  Joining the US as territory without a voting representative in the legislature or votes in the electoral college would seem like less independence.
