Why do people think Cunningham is going anywhere? He wouldn't leave for $10 million. None of the PSU/NLWC coaches are breaking up the band.

No one said he is going anywhere.  They are suggesting Iowa should try.  People didn't think Taylor was going to OSU either but they kept trying.

I’m not calling for anyone to be fired or forced out or anything. But I’m wondering, which specific coaches would 1) be willing to take over at Iowa, and 2) do a better job than Brands? Coaching a major program like Iowa isn’t exactly easy.

Iowa is a step up from any job that is not PSU or OKST right now in terms of salary and tradition. Of course, with tradition comes expectations but I think most coaches would be willing to take over. It is one of the best wrestling jobs in the world. As far as who would do better than Brands... That's the million dollar question. I think JB fits the mold for what Iowa style was. Hard wrestling, grit, toughness, offense, etc. JB is the guy to get for them in my opinion.

Iowa is a step above OkSt even. The have the current recruiting advantage but the could change in a heartbeat if results fall short (unlikely) or Iowa gets back to normal from a down by-their-standards year. Iowa is freakin Iowa.

I'm not saying it's likely, but if they had 3 champs it wouldn't be a surprise. 133 is insane and Ayala is a 2x finalist he could win; 184 Ferrari is a favorite; 285 is going to blow up what's to say Kueter isn't the lucky surprise soph champ we have seen so many times before.

If that happens do the haters go away?

Not sure if they would completely go away, but things would change. It would show a change for the better the programs, since Iowa has continued to struggle to wrestle up to there seed, and that's the issue. That's why it is so hard to even fathom that kueter or Ayala or even any hawk that isn't ranked number one will ever win. They just don't wrestle up to there seeds the usually regress. That said, if they have several wrestlers in March wrestle above there seeds I will set the pitch fork down.

Full of un-bias blasphemy.

Would the Brands bros opt to coach elsewhere, were they shitcanned?

We are living in a land of hypotheticals in this thread. Therefore hypothetically, brands and co would go to Illinois to fill the hypothetical void from poeta, who hasn't really been fired yet.... Hypothetically speaking

Full of un-bias blasphemy.

Yes the haters would go away and technically it's correct that "surprise" wouldn't be the right term for those three all winning, rather it would be stunning bordering on miraculous.

There is no way those three are all winning.  Two of them rarely attempt to score, which is kind of a threshold issue for winning national championships. It would be a surprise (less than 50% chance) if any of them won.

Bormet was my club coach and those are borderline fighting words. That doofus can stay in Madison where he belongs.

I’m not too sure it would be so easy to find a replacement. PSU football had trouble finding a HC. I suspect the reason is that coaches who have built something at their current institutions value the feeling of job security. Jumping into a higher pressure environment is not for everyone—especially people who have kids in school, mortgages, 401ks, etc.

Of course Iowa would be able to hire a coach, but the question has to be, who exactly would do a better job AND who exactly would accept the job? (Again, I’m not criticizing anyone or calling for any ousters. Just a general observation.)

Iowa wrestling is not PSU football. Think more like Alabama or Ohio State football. That’s the difference.

Iowa is IOWA!   This is the major problem IMO!   Yet, I don't think they are even with OSU right now.

While what you said may be somewhat true, it could also play out very different.

1.  They have a 2X finalist who could not even AA with the insane freshmen class.

2. Ferrari is NOT a favorite in any world but Iowa's.  He's a top AA but not the favorite.

3. Kueter is NOT winning 285 either, lol...come on man!

Will the "haters" go away?  NO...NEVER, AGAIN IT IS IOWA!

Personally, Brands are good for college wrestling but that bar and pressure is unreal, even for them!

1) no one would be surprised if Ayala wins or he and Byrd both miss AA because 133 is nails. Wrestle that bracket ten times and you get ten different results.

2) Ferrari is definitely a favorite, it's Welsh/ Sinclair/ Ferrari and no one else. No one is beating them now or in the foreseeable future and I'd short Welsh if anyone.

3) 285 is going to blow up and I pointed out an easily predictable anomaly. It happens literally every year. Kueter may also fall in the blood round and no one would bat an eye.

I'm not saying any of these will happen but they are certainly plausible - it's why they wrestle the matches and I threw it out as a hypothetical.

I’m with you except the Ayala take…absolutely everyone, including most Iowa fans who dont count in this hypothetical, would be surprised if Ayala wins that bracket. It’s just not happening…wrestling that thing time 10 times and Ayala doesn’t take it once. No offense to the kid but unless something changes from all the matches I’ve seen this year he’s got enough to cause a problem and that’s it…not make a full run.

The same Byrd that just beat Blake Boarman 5-4?

Boardman is better than people think.  Byrd is winner.
