People forget that Hayden Zillmer started out as a scrawny 149 frosh year at NDSU before going on the Outdoor Boys moose ribs diet and packing on 75 pounds.

Vito Arujau making 125.  He was wrestling at 132 as a high school sophomore and junior and moved up to 138 his senior year.  He obviously had more success when moving up to 133 and 61kgs.

Did he actually weigh 138 as a senior or was it more like 133 and he just didn't want to cut? How big was Yianni? They were in high school during overlapping years (at least many, not sure if they lined up perfectly) but I'm sure Vito didn't want to be in the same weight class as Yianni.

I'm pretty sure he wasn't cutting but for certs, he did weigh 139. I don't know for sure but when they were sophomores, Yianni won states at 120 and Nick Piccinini won at 126.  My guess is Vito could have gone 120 or 126 that year but bumped up to 132 so they could all win a state title. He certified at 127 that year. The following year, Vito stayed at 132 and Yianni went up to 138. My guess is that both didn't cut much weight but I also don't recall them being small for the weights.

is 2021 the year where Iowa was decimating them but they went 5 for 5 in the finals?

Yea that line up included Robbie Howard 125 a 1 yr starter 1x NQ (2-2)

Brady Berge 3xNQ 0x AA

Joe Lee 1 yr starter ,finished with a losing record and 0-2 at ncaas

Michael Beard -7th and 8th place finish in 6 years

not to mention an injured freshman Kerkvilet. This team would’ve have lost a dual to almost any other PSU team in the Cael era

Ricky Bonomo 118 lbs in 3x champ (85, 86, 87).  His brother Rocky too.

I met him the summer after his senior year and 3rd title.  I wrestled HS 155 that year and remember thinking there was no way that guy wrestled 118.

Dierringer was huge at both 157 and 165. J'Den Cox's pull to 86kg comes to mind.

He was big, but he was never that tall.

I didn't think '57 was that big of a cut for young Dierringer. He's the guy in that group that just doesn't seem like the others.

Ryan Deakin on the other hand, if he came out at 184, I'd think he was a bit lean, but still... a solid build at '84... and he's Wrestling...what 154 and then '57.

Ringer supposedly walked around over 200 when he was still in college. No clue if it's true, but I didn't bat an eye when I heard it knowing what we know about the hard OkSt cuts. And this was like 10 years ago when he was either still in school or had just finished.

At the 1981 World Cup the next year, Mills faced reigning Olympic gold medalist Anatoli Beloglazov. In the weeks leading up to the match, Mills couldn’t work out because he had prickly heat rash, a condition where skin feels as if its burning because sweat glands are blocked.

The night before he was supposed to weigh in for the match with Beloglazov, he tried to work out again. No heat rashes. Mills burned off 18 pounds in 12 hours. During that match, though, he kept tripping from exhaustion. Mills still won the match on a tiebreaker.

Yianni didn’t wrestle his senior year HS due to elbow surgery I believe. Would’ve been our second 5 timer

Look at his muscle mass.  When you hydrate all that muscle what do you think it's gonna weigh?

Kind've like Joe Smith.  Fill all that muscle and frame with ice-cream & cookies and it's gonna weigh 200+.

Young ScottishSteel won a piece of Ricky Bonomo art at a camp; he would do these drawings on poster board

Irrationally proud former WPIAL wrestler
