Notable results/storylines form the Navy Classic

125 -  for Nebraska neither Koehler nor Laurdisen did anything to grab ahold of the Nebraska starting spot. Laurdisen placed higher but both look losses in watered down field.

133 -  Raymond Lopez from American had a day as an unseeded wrestler. He pinned Jacob Van Dee in the Semis and then pinned Max Leete in the finals.

141 -  Brock Hardy takes care of business with a close win (4-3) over Chapell from Buckness in the finals.

149 - Nebraska cannot wait to have Lamer officially join the team

157 - Antrell Taylor takes care of business with a 7-2 win over a solid Colton Washleski who I did not realize has transferred to UVA.

165- LJ Araujo wins his first tournament as the Nebraska starter in a decent field - Evan Maag GMU, Dylan Evans PITT, Noah Mulvaney Bucknell

174 - Chris Minto announces himself as a threat at 174 with an 11-3 MD over Danny Wask in the finals.

184 - Allred is the champion here with a close win over DuVall (9-6 SV) in the finals

197 - A battle of AA's from last year in the finals with Mac Stout getting the 20-4 TF over McDanel

285- For the second time in a week Lanosga (Navy) takes out Dayton Pitzer 6-4. No AJ Ferrari in the field. Not sure why he was not there.

Nothing really stands out for Nebraska against this field.

I wonder if we don't see Ferrari until 2nd semester.

I thought a few things stood out

Hardy having a close match surprises me , he’s a legit title contender I thought he would distance himself from the rest of the field more this season

Minto majoring Wask stands out , Wask is tough to score on so an 11-3 major is a real good win

McDaniel getting teched by Stout is surprising, i would favor Stout but thought it would be much closer

It took McDanel most of last season to get in shape...

And even then, Stout took a MD on him at NCAAs...doesn't seem that much of a stretch.  I'm surprised that no one is that shocked at the Van Dee fall.  Pinning the 7th place at NCAAs is a great win for Lopez

First competition of the season doesn't tell to much...

Fair enough...also, Van Dee was winning in the third prior to the fall.  But I'll always be surprised when a returning AA gets pinned by a backup at American!

Has anyone seen the match?  I read somewhere it was 9-2 with a minute left before the TD and fall.  Agree it's notable but if that is the case then it might not be repeatable.

Minto the MVP of the tourney for Nebraska. Van Dee was up 9-5 when he got stuck, wouldn't be worried about him if I were a Nebraska fan.

Van Dee got cement mixered when up 9-2.
Kael beat a guy who best Koehler.
Hardy gave up a lot of takedowns which is concerning imo.
Nikade is young but Lamer looked good, will be nice to have him in.
Antrell seemed like Antrell.
LJ👀.
Minto is never out of a close match.
Duvall took Allred down again like he did in R1 at NCAAs.
McDanel didn't make a jump.
Andrews- that's why AJ got brought in

AJ was in a boot at wrestle offs last week. It doesn't sound like a serious injury, but I don't think they planned on him wrestling in the tourney

Lamer wrestled at the Princeton Open... most likely because his brother was there wrestling for Oregon State.

I'll give my Pitt shaded take

125: Chapell has cemented this as his spot. Had a good tournament and looks like a potential NQ

133: Tallmadge is good, definitely NQ level, but has to make some jumps to be a R12/AA guy

141: Priest seems to be pulling away from Santaniello for the starting spot, had a much better showing today against Cayden Ricciardi (who got 2 takedowns against Hardy in his semi. Watch out for this kid, I think he's a podium threat)

149: Brown took a 15-9 loss to Kaden Cassidy in what seemed like a crazy back-and-forth match. This cools me on stock a little, but he has plenty of chances to bounce back and 149 in ACC is wide open

157: Solomon INJ def. while winning, I hope he is not out for too long. Bouzakis looks good, but I hope they use the rest of his FR dates wisely, because I am not sure if he is a sure point scorer at NCAAs yet.

165: Evans seems to be adjusting to 165 well, he is a smaller 165 and I am guessing Aruajo is a LARGE 165. Keslar is not far off Evans at all, taking 3rd, if Solomon's injury is serious, one of them could maybe shrink down to 157.

174: Luca took a last-second loss to Wask, then pulled out of the classic. Minto looks legit up at 174 he smoked Wask.

184: Daly looks like a solid backup at 184

197: Stout is a machine. McDanel almost made a u20 team this summer and the only person to ever TF him before in College is Barr.

285: Lanosga clearly has Pitzer's number. Is Dayton just not up to speed yet? Is it purely a matchup thing? Or is Lanosga an AA threat this year? Or none of the above?

Takes McDanel a whole season to get in shape. No shade to Stout...💪

How'd he do?

He looked pretty decent. He won it. I don't think he had any ranked wrestlers in his weight.

Duvall seems to match up well with Allred

I made the drive down to Annapolis and attended the Navy Classic so I can chime in with my observations from watching some of these matches.

First note though @Gene Mills Fan I sat next to a guy who said he was Mills's teammate at Syracuse and that he wrestled Barry Davis in college (this was proven by a picture of him wrestling Davis and double proven by Barry Davis talking to him about said picture) although I'm completely blanking on his name.

Second note, it was wrestled in their indoor track facility that had a gorgeous backdrop of floor to ceiling windows looking out over the water

Now to actual wrestling observations:

Nebraska looked rough as a whole - it really looked like it was their first comp of the year (which fair play it was).  Lauridsen got ridden hard, especially in his first match.  Silas Allred was actually losing his opening round match to a wrestler from Morgan St before Morgan St got hurt (actually got taken out on a gurney - hope he's okay).  Minto was losing his semifinal in the last 30 second OT period and managed to get a TD at the buzzer to make the finals.  He had a tough go in his quarters too.  The Wask win was more Wask getting a little reckless at the end in some yolo moves than Minto beating him as the MD result would suggest.  Brock Hardy got taken down by people he probably shouldn't have been taken down by.  Van Dee got pinned in the semis (although he was up at the time).  Araujo won the thing but I never felt like he was in control of a match.  Just overall sloppy and definitely not sharp but also - it was Nov 2nd so plenty of time for adjustments.  Antrell Taylor was the lone exception; he looked as expected.  I did hear someone in a Nebraska shirt saying AJF had a toe injury - no idea how reliable that source is.

American has some scrappy kids - especially the light weights, JJ Peace made the semis and looked tough.  Ray Lopez pinned Van Dee (Van Dee was winning by a fair amount so I had eyes on the other semifinal at the time and I'm not sure how Lopez caught him).  Lopez beat Leete in the finals but Leete got hurt in the match (looks like a fairly serious knee).  Lopez did look good in his other matches though.

Morgan St has a Campbell transfer, Eugene Harney who made the finals - he looks scrappy and solid.  Don't forget that name; he could be their first NCAA qualifier and I wouldn't be surprised.

@wrestlingfan22 I don't think you see Finn Solomon again this year; he had to get carried off the mat - looked like a knee but I'm not a doctor so who knows what it actually is.  Stout looked great.  Pitzer looked good against everyone but Lanosga so could be a styles makes fights kinda thing.  I think your observations on Chappell and Tallmadge match what I saw yesterday.  I wouldn't put too much stock in the Brown loss to Cassidy - it was a roller coaster.  I thought he wrestled well otherwise.

Ricciardi is definitely a name to remember from Navy.  Payton Thomas had a strong showing and Langosa kept doing his thing.

George Mason and Bucknell was mostly scrappy but struggled to make a ton of noise; just were hard outs.

That's it for now I think, but if anyone has a specific question tag me and I'll try and answer off my recollections.
