Letting the grapes mature on the vine isn't punting. Its giving themselves the best chance for a team trophy in the next 4 years.

However, I was referring to the Cornell tradition of greyshirting/community college-ag school admission.

it didn't used to be punting but in 2025 its getting closer and closer

there had been some Duals last year where we were expecting some awesome matchups but it seamed the red bears were more like ducks

Mike Grey will be the first to whine and complain and let everyone know if someone ducks a Cornell wrestler though . . .

don't a lot of these Cornell guys do this, historically?

Yes, it’s probably more rare if they don’t.

And for Knox specifically it probably makes even more sense to give more time for people to forget about his “incident”

Don't give Lisa hate. Need more females like her chipping in on here. Keeps some of you schmucks in line.

I’d like to see more female participation in general

Can you point to an instance where this happened?  Thanks.

Of the elite Cornell recruits in recent decades, only Shapiro, Yianni, and Dake wrestled as true freshmen.

Wait! You mean Mineo lied! He said they all greyshirt and even mentioned Yianni and Dake! (I'm being sarcastic, but he did say that and I was aware that those guys went from Day 1.)

Imagine going this far as a 40-something year old man to get in the good graces of a teenager.

An example of Mike Grey whining and complaining? I mean . . . pick one?

Whining and complaining about someone ducking.  Should be easy for you to cite some instances.  Thanks.

This may surprise you but I don't actually have stuff like that bookmarked nor do I care enough about anonymous message board posts to go peruse Grey's twitter or listen to post match press conferences to find examples; I typically see stuff like that (from any coach), roll my eyes, and move on.

My point was just that Grey is whiny and complains a lot; and sometimes it's a bit hypocritical.  You are obviously defensive, which you have every right to be - you're BigRedFan so he's your guy and you clearly have a bias here (we all do for our team of choice no shame in that) so there's no point in trying to argue cause even if I did provide examples I'm sure you would try to argue them down or justify it.

Especially ending both posts w/ the passive aggressive "Thanks"; just doesn't feel like a conversation worth having so go ahead and declare "victory" over me or call me a name for failing to spend the rest of my day listening to a plethora of Mike Grey sound bites for examples.  You want specifics; I'm just not going to waste my day doing that - I just happen to think he's whiny and complains more than most; that's all.

Yet it so clearly sticks in your mind that you call him out for it.  You just know he is whiny about other teams ducking Cornell wrestlers, despite not being able to point to a single instance.  Go figure.

I'm not defensive, as Mike Grey is not "my guy."  I'm more familiar with their program than with any other program, yet I can't recall any time he's been whiny and complaining about people ducking.  I'm hard pressed to even think of anyone who has notably ducked against Cornell.

Make a claim, fail to back it up, then drop out complaining how badly you're being treated.  I'm sure there are names for that kind of thing, but I can't recall any at the moment.

This was a Big Apple story, perhaps someone could dig it out of old forum archives, I won't tell it well but basically:

Switzer calls Abel into his office cause wrestler(s) beat up football player(s) at a bar.  Abel stands there and takes the verbal abuse from Switzer.  When he's done Abel tells Switzer he can tell the wrestler himself.  Stan steps aside and the OU 126 lb was standing behind him the whole time.  Barry looks at him ... says nevermind now get out of my office.

Amazing story and I do remember seeing this on here before somewhere.

i think the iowa state journeyman 23-24   is the match he annoyed me with the lineup after guys wrestled the other teams. vito sat frost and shapiro sat chittum.   but looking at last year no one was missing besides Shapiro when the concussed head was the issue.  Possible an outlier.   Or maybe I just can't understand the only wrestles second semester thing

Your name here is "BigRedFan" but Mike Grey isn't "your guy"?  He's been in Ithaca since 2006 (ish?), was a 2x AA and is the current Cornell HC but he's not "your guy"?  I enjoy talking wrestling.  I don't enjoy internet fights that never change anyone's mind.  I am intrigued about why you wouldn't claim him as "your guy".

I acknowledge that we could have different interpretations of "your guy".  I'm using it in the way that I imagine most fans of a successful wrestling program will largely back their coach - Iowa and their existential crisis about Brands being the exception.  Do you care to elaborate about why Mike Grey isn't BigRedFan's "guy"?

Tell you what:  you give me instances of Mike Grey being whiny and complaining about other teams ducking Cornell wrestlers, and I'll fill you in on my relationship with Cornell wrestling.  Deal?
