What did I say that was different?  I said the NCAA recognized that there was a post-season in 2020.  Name the teams that did not have a post-season tournament in 2020?

My problem is that you were trying to gotcha Fly with a technicality without bothering to check if you were technically correct. You were not. The NCAA never said they had a post-season.

Are you going to say that the conference tournaments are not post-season?

I am saying, and I have been saying, something like three or four times now, that the NCAA never said that they had their post-season in 2020. They did say they had all or much of their regular season. But you already know this and would rather change the subject to deflect. Fine. Deflect.

Incorrect. The NCAA declined to extend the eligibility of student-athletes where all or much of their regular season was completed. They said nothing about post-season.

He technically correct.  Conferences were wrestled, so there was a postseason.  Not a completed one, though.

No he is not. He wanted to argue that they lost their eligibility because they had a post-season when the NCAA never said that.

Yes, they had part of a post-season.

No, they did not have a post-season.

No, the NCAA never, ever, at all, even a little bit, in any way, implied, stated, uttered, mentioned, referenced anything about the lose of eligibility being due to having any part of a post-season.

I know this because the NCAA very specifically, unequivocally, official, precisely stated that senior winter athletes (not just wrestlers) did not get another year because they had completed all or much of their regular season.

Yes, he wants to change the subject and make it about the definition of a post-season, but that was not his claim. His claim was the NCAA said they had a post-season. Never happened.

I assert that you made a factually incorrect statement (in an attempt to gotcha fly - one of the top, least agenda-ed posters on the site) when you claimed the NCAA said there was a post-season because in their press release where they explicitly stated the logic for their decision they specifically did not mention that there was a post-season.

Imagine my surprise reading what appeared to be a huge compliment on my postings, and then disappointment realizing you were talking about someone else with "fly" in their username. what a ride lol

How is that we are here in 2025 and people still don't understand the rationale behind the "free" covid year?

The NCAA did not give out an extra year because they felt sorry for athletes whose college eligibility was negatively impacted by Covid. If that was the case, they would have given the winter sport athletes of 2019-2020 an additional year. The NCAA wanted to get football teams on TV while the world was still in very uncertain times. There was zero assurance (other than the chase of the almighty dollar) that the season would be completed or not massively impeded by Covid. To make sure athletes weren't afraid of "wasting" a year of eligibility (like what happened to winter sports the previous year) they promised that it would be free year.

The only concern the NCAA had was putting the best product on the field/court possible in 2020-2021. It would have been bad for TV ratings if a number of high profile college players opted to redshirt, or big programs decided to punt on the year in order to preserve eligibility rather than risk wasting a year on a shortened/potentially incomplete season. That is it. That is all.

Bro- what is your problem?  Why piss in my cornflakes?

From the perspective of an athlete and as a coach, I know that conferences are considered the post-season.  The NCAA runs merch and gives athletes gear that has NCAA logos on it.  I'm not deflecting anything or changing my argument at all.  I am sorry that I cannot find it in a press release, but my understanding is that when this was discussed internally that the post season was mentioned.  This is from talking with college coaches.  Not everything makes it to press releases.  You are correct in that it doesn't appear to be in any official press release.  Do you think that everything discussed behind closed doors makes it to every press release?  You clearly had a very odd bone to pick with me, but I forgive you.

I completely understand the Covid year.  We were talking about 2020 when guys like Mark Hall and Lugo lost their last year of eligibility.  WKN wants to say the fact that conferences was held had nothing to do with it.  I claimed that my understanding was that the decision makers took the fact that the post season had started (conferences) into account when ending the year.  He produced a press release; I only have word of mouth.  So take that for whatever its worth.  Really not that big a deal.  I assume he has been having a bad day.

Wait.   Not everything behind closed doors makes it to a press release.    Booooooom.

I’ll add this.  What gets to the press release is sanitized often lawyerly scrutinized mumbo jumbo?

you win the internet today boss.

Sir, I was not trying to "gotcha" you, but WKN made an assumption that I had an agenda.  My understanding was that conference tournaments completing played into the decision.
