he clearly never failed a test while he was actually competing.

You have to be in the testing pool for 6 months prior to international competition.

Thanks.  Then it makes even less sense why he wouldn’t just tell USADA he was no longer competing.

First violation happened almost 3 weeks after John Smith retired and just before Gilman accepted the OSU job, and the other two were at OSU. Is the OP saying this is a NLWC culture issue because it happened under Taylor, who is a PSU/NLWC guy? Odd conclusion.

every missed test was after he retired (the OLY Trials)

so who gives a rip?

he was tested plenty, and never popped, during his medal run.

I like Gilman and I'm inclined to chalk this up to DGAF, but don't forget, he was scheduled to go to the May 11, 2024 Olympic qualifying tournament as a back-up for Lee in case he got hurt just beforehand.  That would've been after the 4/28/24 missed "whereabouts."  He talks in this video here about how he pissed off Cody by basically telling him at the last minute that he wasn't going, when Cody was already overseas with Zain. His explanation why is pretty murky, and it sounds like he was apologetic to Cody about it later.

Is that sequence of events consistent with Gllman not giving a F after trials and just checking out mentally?  Yeah.

Is it also consistent with him smoking some weed or whatever after trials, then having an "Oh crap" moment when he realized he still needed to show up as a backup in May in case Lee screws up his knee again, so he suddenly decided to make himself scarce rather than endure the embarrassment of a flunked drug test? Yeah.

Do I care?  No, not really, though either way, I'm sure a lot of us would've cared had Lee tweaked his knee just before that qualifier.

would i be floored if Thomas Gilman popped?

no.

but that's not what happened.

there's a lot of people acting as though he was doping. this doesn't mean that, so save the outrage unless/until more comes out.

The fact is, Gilman was done after his three-worlds-in-12-months run.

he got too big.

It’s a little strange. If you know you’re going to get a suspension if you don’t comply, why not just tell them you’re retired?  If you aren’t retired now you’re screwed anyway.

I mean, if I used PEDs and still didn't make the Olympic team, I would definitely avoid the testers over the coming year.  And I'd have an alibi or two: " I had retired;" "I was in IDGAF mode" and my legacy would probably be ok.

Imagine the stigma of losing and then testing positive?

Not to mention, he's a really bad role model for those boys at NLWC.

Also: loved how : Gilman has changed... "he got away from Iowa and turned over a new leaf " instantly turned into "he's a weird dude, cut right out of the TnT mold."

The US continues to have the most restrictive (read dumbest) enhancement testing policy globally.

US athletes have to pretend to do double the trouble because US olympic trials are major commercial events, and the desire to maintain sponsorship rates runs things.

But again, facade, bc they don’t want slower times or achievements than the 80’s when athletes were the most beautiful fusion of chemistry, determination, and insanity.

Keep sponsors happy and have a happy career, just be sure to actively hide how the sausage is made, bc reality doesn’t sell product, but whatever nonsense Jim Nantz will be told to tell the world about you does.
