DT seems to be the hottest young coach around. I don’t think anyone can doubt his technical ability, and from the outside it appears that he’s a great recruiter (so far at least). He’s only one year in, and lots of things can happen, but he’s off to a great start.

Assuming DT keeps doing well — and with Iowa so invested in wrestling — would Iowa go after DT once Brands steps down?

Like other top programs, Iowa understands going outside of their program to recruit athletes. But would they go outside their program to recruit a coach?

The bigger question is why would DT leave? Money does talk, but I’m betting the Pokes can match anything.

Money, facilities, recruiting (in the Midwest versus South-ish)

Good question ... did Jimmy eat our good buddy peanut ... sneaky way to start a new thread.

Can't remember if it was peanut or @Mr. PeanutButter I once accused of being Jimmy but one of them passed the "not jimmy" test

That ship has sailed.

Could be. But once Iowa opens up a search for an head coach, it would be wise for them to gauge interest from the best coaches—even those who are not Hawks.

He pulled Forrest from Pennsylvania. You really think he can’t get Midwest kids? Come on….

There's 3 big programs in Collegiate Wrestling with a major history. He’s at one of them. Iowa would be a lateral at best. PSU, being Alma mater for him, will always be special. But Carl probably has a lifetime contract.

I thought Cinnabons was firm in his prediction that Spencer was the Hawks’ next HC

True but Jimmy would also make a post exactly like this that contradicts himself

He's already at the one with largest history ... Iowa would be a step down.

History also says that Iowa haven’t been top shelf winners in 15 years.

OSU is the #2 program now and there is no looking back.

In his first year DT had a more momentous year than Iowa has had since Metcalf was in the room.

We seem to have plenty of money and DT has no issues recruiting no matter where it is.  Plus theres allay plenty of talent coming out of Oklahoma.

People can try to forget 2020 and 21 all they want but it happened. OSU has been 34 and counting for 20 years.

Do you mean the 2020-21 season?

2020 never got wrestled, and in 2021 they kinda shat the bed and left a ton of personal goals on the table.  That was not a glistening example of peak performance by any stretch.

I’m not looking at Marinelli, Eierman and Kemdog all losing in pretty brutal fashion as a successful tournament.

Failing to get your 9th year seniors to the top of the podium in a year when Penn State isn’t really trying is cause for reflection, not celebration.

Who has won an NCAA title for Iowa in the past 20 years that wasn’t an absolute freak coming out of high school? I’ll wait…

DT got two massive underdogs to the top of the podium in his first year alone.  He’s not responsible for anything that happened in years prior.  Nice gentle tractoring of the goalposts with that one though.

2020 did happen just the last 3 days weren’t wrestled. Also DT gets credit for his senior transfer champs, but Brands doesn’t get credit for Buchanan?

Well, please go on the NCAA website and let me know who won 2020 ncaa’s.

And sure, brands can get some credit, but maybe buchanan should get credit for not getting too broken by their training.    How did Parco and Teemer perform?  Injuring your athletes counts as bad coaching too.

Edit: I also want to be clear, I’m not anti-Iowa, a stellar Iowa program is sorely missed, but we have to admit that the brands ability to develop world beaters stops at 133. Obviously they’ve built a ton of successful athletes in those weight classes, but their methodology doesn’t translate above those weights, both from strategy and joint integrity perspectives.
