I saw it mentioned on Flo's podcast but what's the story with Gilman leaving OKST? Is he heading back to PSU? Anyone have any knowledge of the situation?

I think on FRL it seemed pretty definite that he was leaving OSU, but not definite where he was going (rumors were back to PSU).

The social media chatter was something about an incident at a donor dinner but no clue if any actual truth to that, could just be his wife wanted to move back closer to family or something.

That's too bad. He seemed to be enjoying his role at Ok State and it looked like the lightweights were learning a lot from him. I think he'd be a solid addition to the staff at ISU/CRTC. Speaking of RTCs, is Gilman done done competing? Maybe he's gearing up for another cycle and is looking for training opportunities away from RBY and Fix.

Wife's family from PA. OKST donor was hitting on his wife. He wants to compete still. Hates the food in OK. Pick one...

Unless you want to go down the donor dinner rumor mill, the most likely story is he wants to go back closer to his wife's family and didn't love coaching enough to continue to make the sacrifice.

Checked out the OSU forum and there were dozens of responses about who they could get to replace him before talking about why he’s leaving.   The donor thing was posted but didn’t seem like people believed it and it was probably because his wife wants to move back east and maybe for him to make another go at competing

Can't post stuff about his wife unless you include a picture. Sorry, but those are the forum rules.

My goodness Cael is from Utah how did he every bring himself to leave family go east and of all places end up in PA.

DT was born in Nevada grew up in Wyoming with all the fresh elk and trout you could ever eat why in the world would he move to Ohio.

Best ribeye I've ever had was in Oklahoma, best T-bone Texas, best prime rib Hawaii, best crocodile Louisiana.  Course it's possible Gilman doesn't eat meat.

If you are unwilling to try new places you're gonna miss a lot of life.

Seems to me like something happened....maybe he'll take Ramos' at UNC, same Iowa cringe but with shooting.

Of course.  But a husband/wife/kid often like having additional family around that don’t actually live with them.

My only experience in Oklahoma was getting absolutely demolished in a cattle stockade a competition simply referred to as Enid(national duals).

All I remember is the Sinclair gas station outside stillwater, the shower head in the hotel that was chest high, the chicken fried steak, and nobody understanding how a Sonic restaurant worked.  That and the many many hours of rolling hills.

For someone used to the northeast it was certainly a world away.

This would be a bummer, cowboy Gilman was fun.

Equally significantly it would be a real loss to the room and the program.  There is an undeniably positive impact from having a coach of certain weights who understands the techniques and leverages that work at certain weights.  Gilman leaving would really impact spratley and the rest of the lower weights.

Ramos recruited + coached a 2x NCAA champ/ 5x AA and has had at least one AA ever year since joining in a state historically lacking wrestling resources and a school that had long become an afterthought. I will take that "cringe" every day of the week and twice on Sunday. So save the strays for someone else.
