Best and greatest in my opinion are two different things, and this comes into play discussing Taylor.   Can't say he was the greatest by any stretch because of the number of three timers, and the 4/5 timers that had additional chances.  But none of them had Dake.   Taylor is easily a 3xer if not for the only 4 for 4 weights in history.  This is where I say there can be an argument for best.

To put it another way, I'm a Cowboys fan, and Emmit Smith is the greatest running back of all time.  But as far as best, he is no higher than fourth.

Taylor is by far the most accomplished wrestler for Carl.  I would say his Olympic Gold Medal is the proof.

I was thinking the topic was sticking to College.  If we’re simply taking whole ball o wax, yes completely agree.  Four timer with the Olympic gold is the cherry on top.

I don’t understand how Taylor is winning this poll. The OP asked about best PSU wrestler so you have to assume that means while they were in college. Not taking anything away from him but DT is getting credit for things that he accomplished 5-10 years after he graduated lol. He was amazing in college too, but when the ultimate goal is NCAA championships, how can you put 2 titles above all those guys with 3 or more?

Because he scored more points than those with more titles, helping his team!

There are different ways to define best.

If this is satire, you nailed it. Funny stuff, my friend.

That's cool, and... a lot of work.

How will you handle the smaller bracket sizes of the past?  Just take the later rounds of the recent era to shrink it down?

Yep. Part of why I haven't done it yet. More of a fun feature than anything. But, prior to 1955 there was no scoring except for placement, so that helps quite a bit. I think I'll end up doing % of max points available. Anyone that was a 3x national champ prior to freshman or 4x national champ after will max out the points until 1972 when bonus points were added to scoring.

FYI, Pinfalls, defaults forfeits, and disqualifications were 1 team point starting in at least 1928.

Edit: And it was actually called a pin fall in 1928.

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Ok, but who is Cael's biggest bust?

I might get some hate for this, but Facundo…. He came in as a top recruit: went 0-2 I believe as a NCAA qualifier, then ORS, then couldn’t crack the lineup (understandably with kasak at 57, MM at 65, and Haines at 74)

I guess that’s why DT is still undefeated in fantasy matches against Dake 🤣

I get your point but I have a hard time seeing a guy that finished 2nd as “best” just because they scored more team points.

Ahhh. I missed that when I was looking at the scoring. Good thing I haven't done it yet. Ha

I completely forgot that he got a post-season nod ever.
