For OSU,

I think:

  • 125: Spratley
  • 133: Portal
  • 141: Tagen Jamison
  • 149: Casey Swiderski
  • 157: Teague
  • 165: Dee Lockett
  • 174: Portal
  • 184: Thompson/Portal
  • 197: Merrill
  • 285: Doucet

I have to think 285 will be Portal.

NDSU

125 Witt rFr
133 O’Brien rFr
141 Olson rFr
149 Drexler Jr returning AA
157 Petersen rJr
165 Greenley rSo
174 Magayna rFr
184 Brenot rSo returning blood round
197 Glover rSo
HWT Blackburn rJr

Really young team, I’m sure they’ll take transfers as they can get them. However, after this team lost 15+ to the portal last year I like what Obe is building. Have to keep Drexler and Brenot in house.

Penn State

125 - Lilledahl

141 - Blaze

149 - VanNess

157 - Kasak

165 - Monster Mitch

174 - Welsh

184 - Barr

Nagao -> Minny at 133, goes home

Facundo -> Michigan at 174lbs, goes 2-0 against Haines

Haines -> OSU at 174, back with his mentor and the guy who coached the last champ at 174lbs

Ryder -> tOSU at 174, beats Welsh 3x during the season

If no one transferred out, Penn State's second team would be favored to take second at BIG and Nationals.

My best guess at SDSU

125- Brady Roark / Carson Dupill

133- Derrick Cardinal / Logan Swensen

141- Julian Tagg

149- Tyson Peach / Alek Martin / Avery Allen

157- Cael Swensen / Moses Espinoza-Owens

165- Cael Swensen / Marcus Espinoza-Owens

174- Burke Blasius / Keenan Sheridan

184- Bennett Berge

197- Brock Fettig / Thomas Dineen

285- Luke Rasmussen / Micah Hach

Drake Rhodes has 2 more years, he looked good until the knee injury.  I would expect him back at 165 or possibly 174.   Could we see C Swenson all the way up to 174?

I like your option 2!  This was the toughest year in a long time for Mizzou wrestling.   Couple of other thoughts/questions.

1.  Hawks doesn't seem to be improving over the years he's been in the program.  Is he at a weight class that is too high?   Should he/can he move to 174?  If Steed could maintain 165, Hawks at 174, Sinclair at 184 and Elam at 197 that would be 4 strong weight classes.

2.  Over the many years I've been a fan, I've gotten spoiled with the strong development Mizzou coaches have achieved with many of their wrestlers.   Good/great wrestlers come into the program and you see many of them improve each year to the point you have NCAA champions or All Americans by the time they are seniors.  Edmonds, Hawks, Gioffre and others don't seem to be developing and improving as many former Mizzou wrestlers have.  Any thought on this?

3.  Nitzel had some bright points, can he take the next step in 2025/26?

4.  Will Kade Moore take the next step in development?  Can he survive the onslaught of some of the incoming talent? He looked like he was really coming around in the Big 12 Tourn, but then did nothing at the NCAA Tourn.

I have a thought on this.  I don't think most Mizzou followers realize how much of an influence Mike Eirman had on a bunch of the Tiger wrestlers.  Jaden Cox and Ben Askren are two.  Mike's son, and Mauller, as well as Jacques, were all multi Champs for Father Tolten, right there in Columbia and were starting from early on.  I don't know what happened with Mike's tie to Mizzou, but his club is still developing talent in Mid Missouri, as well as Sammy Henson's Bull Trained club.  The Elams were products of a strong Staley HS in KC, of which Gary Mayabb had built into a power before heading to USA Wrestling.  There was a period of real good high school talent in Missouri that did well at summer USA nats, and many of these kids wrestled at D1 programs.  I'm not sure if Missouri HS wrestling has taken step back.  Several recent Mo Champs have gone to Mizzou to get buried on the roster.  Saunders, Henson, Orrine, Fuggit, all headed out of state.  Little Rock had several Missouri kids when they initiated their program.  I also think Alex Clemson was a positive and was a loss when he left Mizzou for Maryland.

Just the rambling of an old man that has deep roots in the wrestling in the state of Missouri.

From what I am hearing Swenson will be back at 157 more than likely.

Old man ramblings about the pride they have for their home state are welcomed.

I'm guessing that Strickenberger is getting a JC year back for D1?

I think based on the recent ruling, he may even be getting two years back.

Wow... I thought you could only get 1 year back...interesting....so you could be held back in high school, go on a mission...go to two years of JC....redshirt...then  start D1 at age 24. Crazy.

Don't forget they can mix in a Medical and Oly RS in there. 🥲
