I saw people saying they thought he was hoping Rutgers would injury default instead of taking the DQ, but not sure why they would.  I understand people doing that when their guy is losing, but this was a 0-0 match and Cartagena-Walsh had already beaten Rogotzke in the dual.  And the slam was pretty bad

Who believes ASU and OSU is, "blue blood?"

Minnesota probably, "blue blood."  But ASU and OSU?

ISU..."blue blood" no doubt. Not certain how they could be, missed...:classic_dry:

Neither of those is a blue blood. They both have team titles though. I'd rate OSU higher than ASU just by virtue of being in the Big 10.

There are tiers to being blue bloods in wrestling....

True Blue: Oklahoma State, Iowa, Penn State (double digits in titles).

Kinda Blue: Minnesota, Iowa State, Ohio State, maybe Oklahoma. (have a title or two and many decades of being good).

Light Bluish: Michigan, Arizona State, Cornell, Nebraska (1 or less titles and good for a long time).

Since 2010, Ohio State is absolutely a Blue blood program.  Probably the #3 program in the country.  They were absolutely pioneers in pushing resources into new wrestling facilities, and they have time and again landed some of the country’s biggest recruits.

Who is above them in terms of prestige and accomplishment since 2010 besides Iowa and Penn State?

It seems like just yesterday that a whole slew of folks were bashing the Brands Bros and calling for their heads.  Boy, has PSU broken the spirit of so many Big Ten fans or what?

It was during the Walsh v Rogotzke match in the first round of consolations. Rogotzke gets a go behind and on the mat return to secure the takedown he traps Walsh's arm and drops him directly on his head. Match is stopped and immediately Tom Ryan goes insane. Screaming at the kid, the coach, the trainer AND the refs. Calls them soft among other names. On the Big Ten Plus stream its Session 2 mat 1 at about 1 hour and 14 minutes in.

Kudos to coach Goodale and co. While coach Ryan is going ballistic the camera goes straight to Goodale and you can clearly make out him saying "I wouldn't do this to you".

The Ohio State boards are calling for a change in coaching now and saying his actions are embarrassing. What do you guys think?

Coach Ryan has had a very long and challenging year.

We also need to remember that if this wasn’t broadcast, nobody would care AT ALL.  This sort of thing happens at just about every match where a coach is keyed up and an illegal move is called.  It’s so exceedingly rare that coaches get angry at the call almost 100% of the time.  All the more so when it is a match that could end an athlete’ season.

And sure they can ask for another coach, but they have a top 5 coaching staff in the country.  Like, who do they think is really going to step in and do a better job?  Unless they can poach Casey Cunningham or Bryan Snyder, whoever comes in won’t be as good as Coach Ryan.

I don't necessarily disagree, but I will say that one difference is that wrestlers are wrestling to defend that in freestyle, whereas not really wrestling to defend it in folk. Not being ready to defend that or being in that mindset to defend  can add to it being potentially more dangerous than just a mat return.

Yes, I've heard that girls who wrestled only folk in high school get spiked on their head constantly when they first start to wrestle college freestyle.  You get better at defending it when you know it is coming.

You just recently created this account just to bash TR?

I think it’s being overblown online. It’s unfortunate the Rutgers wrestler got injured when he landed on his shoulder.

I feel like we’re not getting the whole story from all the clipped videos.

bash? i never said anything about tom himself, just that the situation was embarassing.

second, he didnt land on his shoulder. it was his head.

third, they arent "clipped videos". its a link to the live stream. you want the whole story? kid gets dropped on his head, tom doesnt like the call, insults the kid and opposing coach. boom, whole story.

Saw the video with audio on Mineo's account.  It was low for Tom Ryan but if you've been around at these tournaments let's not pretend like this isn't the norm.  It's a damn prison yard on those mats during these tournaments.

An interesting thing about that person's account is the condemnation of Ryan and tOSU in this situation, but trashing the ref regarding two slam calls in PA states the same weekend.  I guess it matters who gets slammed?

Yes he was

He was #35 on @Husker_Du's 2023 Big Board. I would not consider that a 'top-level' recruit. A good/great recruit? Absolutely. Top-level? No. To me, top-level is top 15-20ish. If your definition is different than that then there ya go.

Well, he looks to have improved quite a bit while enrolled at tosu.
