Those two things are not mutually exclusive.  We're just...pretending they are because it's PSU.

What is the point of poaching someone that’s not even an upgrade?  I wouldn’t say Iowa has even done that (at least not on paper)

Think about how you're framing that (and how it's been portrayed throughout) and how you're framing this.

Hmm?  I'm not really framing the Welsh thing, if he's even going to PSU at all.  I'm just saying it's hard to believe PSU would actively solicit Welsh given his parity with Ryder.  That's just looking at it objectively.

I didn't say anything about Ono/James, but... sure, I'll bite.

I'm sure PSU tried to convince Ono to enroll.  Who wouldn't?  College team aside, it's doing a massive favor to Lilledahl/Blaze on the RTC side, both future world teamers. I doubt it was in jealous response to anything Iowa or OSU did.  It'd be recruiting malpractice if they didn't at least make an effort to sign him up. They've got redshirts galore between Lilledahl/Davis/Blaze so I'm sure they can figure it out.

As for James' change of heart, we really don't know what role PSU played in that, if any. But surely you appreciate that when a 17 year old kid sees a team put their whole lineup in the top 6, with 4/5ths in the top 3, it will seem a desirable destination.  They don't exactly need to do the "Psst, hey buddy" routine, where they sneak a discussion with him behind the bleachers at NCAAs.

I don't see the need to suggest there's a bunch of unethical recruiting violations going on, do you?

And I've never said anything about Iowa that's inconsistent with any of the above.

Besides, on the bright side for Iowa, you've clearly got a second Ferrari coming your way.  That's got to be good news right?  I'm sure that whole double-birds-to-Hawk-fans thing will be forgotten in no time, and in 8 months time they'll be selling Ferrari merch in the Carver atrium.

@MPhillips or tOSU homers, is Kharchla for sure done?  Seems like he could probably get a medical for 2024 if he wanted to.  Obviously not a good NCAA’s (tough draw though), but he did actually have a pretty good regular season

The only person who has mentioned Iowa is you , not me.  Look, this is a classic Lance Armstrong situation.  Everybody else is cheating, talking to kids, trying to poach, EXCEPT Penn State.  They're dominating the other dirty poachers while also not actually even paying that much money or poaching at all, just like great American hero Lance Amrstrong dominated the dirties sport in the world clean as a whistle.

I know you said don't talk to me but... why wouldn't Ryan let him wreste?

I sort of get letting Kharchla finish out his career, but why not let him go 184?  That's where Rocco competed this year as a redshirt anyway.  Rogotzke wasn't exactly a world beater and he hasn't taken a redshirt either, so I don't see what the problem was.

I do not know my man! Will we ever?!?!?

He has 1 more year of eligibility left from what I’ve been told. He went 0-2 at NCAAs and is injury prone so I’m not sitting on pins & needles waiting for him to make a decision.

It was nice of you to prove @VakAttack's point. Iowa gets dragged over the coals for bringing in outside talent along with just about everything else they do (sometimes by myself, admittedly). But meanwhile PSU brings flips Jayden James, brings in a world champion in Ono, and now Rocco Welsh within 4 days of each other and I haven't heard much if any criticism about their lack of loyalty to the wrestlers that committed to them. A lot of rocks being thrown from the glass house.

LOL what?

My "point" is that my friend Vak is ascribing malicious motives and unethical conduct to PSU -- "poaching," "flipping," etc -- without a speck of evidence that it was induced by PSU, all while defending Iowa at every turn.

For my part, I'd be very critical of PSU if they actively solicited Welsh to come in to take Ryder's spot at 184. I commented earlier that I doubt that was the case (since they're so even), but if it's true, I'd criticize them, as Ryder is too good to recruit over.  I've said the same about PSU's Beard and Iowa's Glazier.

I've had my criticisms of Iowa, but there's nothing I'd say about them that I wouldn't also say about PSU if they did the same thing.

You can look for inconsistency in my comments, but you won't find any.

I am by no means trying to give them the benefit of the doubt.  I mean in this very thread I suggested they’re exaggerating injuries to get medical redshirts.

They poached James obviously.  But continuing to recruit verbally committed guys seems pretty common.  They poached Kerkvliet.  They probably pay the second most money after Iowa.  I just don’t think I’d call Welsh “poaching”

The Welsh thing is by far the most poaching thing of those three.

I agree.  But that second half of his comment (Aj To Iowa) defo was a back handed insult.   Fwiw.   I’ve heard more about him to Iowa state to be honest.

Iowa and Michigan get bad raps for always having transfers, and they often do, but for the most part their transfers are grad transfers or guys that hit the portal when their coaches left (Franek & Caliendo leaving NDSU because Kish took the OU job, for example).

Penn State still holds the title for most obvious poaching job in all of college wrestling, after Minnesota coached Aaron Nagao up to a great season and a 5th place finish, followed by being offered hundreds of thousands to transfer at that very NCAA tournament by some booster, and jumping ship. PSU doesn’t do it as often, but are the most blatant poachers out there when there’s someone they want.

Call me bitter because he was poached from my team, idc. It’s still what happened.

I'd say Hamiti to Okie St for most blatant,  but Nagao was obvious.  The most insulting part to our intelligence was people online pretending it was Iowa offering hundreds of thousands and PSU basically offering a gift card to TJ Maxx.

I had not heard this claim about Nagao until just now.  My understanding was he entered the portal and a bidding war ensued.  I was under the impression Iowa offered more, albeit not by much (IIRC, Nagao specifically said he did not take the highest offer).

Your first part was true about Iowa IMO prior to this year.  The Buchanan and Teemer situation of them not being in the portal then just showing up at Iowa did probably earn them some criticism.

And that last paragraph goes to my point.  How is Buchanan and Teemer showing up on campus dramatically worse than Welsh being in the portal out of nowhere and Willie's tweeting "PSU, done deal."

I think the point is.  Posters give Iowa and Michigan a ton of grief about the portal and paying athletes.  The jokes about bobs bags of cash are plentiful.   Psu gets 0 grief and is doing it just as much if not more.

Oh yeah I saw that guy in Philly last weekend.  He was dressed up like the Monopoly Man, with a tux and a curly white mustache, except he had a Nittany Lions t-shirt under the tux, and was carrying this big Ted DeBiase briefcase with hundred dollar bills half-dangling out of it, promising untold riches to any non-Nits as they walked off the AA stand.

🤣🤣🤣

Come on man.
