Maybe I’m wrong, but is it not early to assume BB sticks with his commitment? Is he liable if he switches in the next 14 months? tOSU, PSU, OkSt can produce alot of NIL money…not saying he’s after money by any means and hope it’s true that he wants to be a legend/take a program to the top. But…what are the odds he’s convinced to switch in the next 14-15 months?

Thread title is to generate discussion…but honest question….

Yep, does he want to be Ernie Banks or Mickey Mantle?

At that, he probably won't even be another Spencer Lee.

In the Bloomberg article about Bob Nicols' business practices it was pretty clear that he relies heavily on lawyers and contract enforcement, especially when he has more resources than his counterparty. Given that, I cannot see him paying money without a contract in place. And if the contract is violated, I could definitely see him taking action.

The main difference here is that bad PR probably has zero impact on his ability to find renters who will rent his properties, but going after a high profile wrestler could certainly negatively impact his ability to recruit other wrestlers.

The bigger risk for Nicols and Iowa is that everyone else in the program will seek pay raises. This could involve current roster and incoming and future commits. And what happens if they dont get renegotiated higher? Could become a big problem.

Human tendancies are hard to dismiss. People tend to become envious when they percieve they deserve more of the pie. Politicians have made entire careers exploiting such tendancies.

This same thing has been said for the last couple of seasons.  Who has left?

Pretty much everyone on the roster was really excited on twitter/instatgram when Bo committed. Don't think it will be an issue.

Odds are it won't be an issue, but nothing is an issue until it becomes one. I don't care one way or another beyond the entertainment value of it. Iowa is back in the thick of things which is good IMO. Bachelor Bo going to Iowa is better than him going to OK St.

Cael in an interview this week addressed this very thing and said, "we are not going get anybody because of NIL money, that just goes against what we believe.  We're always going to be a little slow to change, we're not very worldly as far as we approach things as a staff as a program..."  Later he adds, "but at the same time you're going to take care of your kids.  Penn State has a great alumni network, very loyal people."

A little double speak but the general gist I got is PSU isn't going to get into bidding wars for a recruit.

Could be a big problem at PSU too.  Maybe Davis wants a raise bc he's starting over Nagao whom Cael got a bag for?

Not how I am reading that. He is saying that these kids are getting a big bag of money. How much did Starocci say that he was getting for coming back this year???

Someone suggested $1.3mil and then Carter posted something about people not knowing the half of it with a wink emoji.  That's as much as I know.  Just want to stay consistent here and say kudos to any of these wrestlers that secure a sizable deal.

I remember him saying that he was the highest paid wrestler in college wrestling by far. PSU is obviously amazing at wrestling but lets not act like the kids come there and are not well compensated. NLWC has the deepest pockets in all of college wrestling.

Less so assuming money is more evenly spread among their tier 1 matmen.

But it is not.  Stall Rocky apparently received between  1.3 million  and 3 million- ish this year.  Are they paying them all the same?

RBY publicly asked for a big raise to return for his last year (before he was someone who was used to fill up the brackets in international tourneys)

I think we have a better chance of seeing him reclassify to this class than to de-commit/re-commit.
