This is pure pop psychology and speculation. I have nothing to support it other than my over active imagination.

I feel like Starocci goes into every match knowing, with absolute certainty, he starts with a 3 point lead. The first point comes from his confidence that he can apply enough pressure in nuetral and flatten his opponent out on top that he will 100% earn two stall warnings and a point.

The second point comes from his belief that he will earn the riding time point.

And the third comes from his belief that he will deny his opponent an escape point by putting in a two minute ride in the secomd or third.

If he fails in the pursuit of one of these three then it is his own fault. He can worry about scoring in other ways if he needs to. But at the outset he never believes he will need to.

This gives him the option to wrestle conservative when it suits him because he is already leading even when the score is 0-0.

Stallrocci and Beau-ring are so boring they probably watch the movie the Irishmen together while watching paint dry and somehow Debunking that old adage that a watched pot never boils…. By watching the water actually boil.

Really WKN? This level of cope is beneath you. Starocci is a loud mouth who wrestled a very poor match against an undersized and outgunned true freshman. The standard for any 4x champ should be much, much higher than what was demonstrated last night. Please don't subject yourself to the humiliation of prostrating yourself before Carter Hollywood like so many middle aged PSU fans are wont to do. You can do better

Harsh.

I am not prostrating myself at all. I do not care for how he handles himself. But in spite of that, I can acknowledge he is one of the greatest folkstyle wrestlers of all time and wonder why.

As for Ferrari, he may be a true freshman, but he is not undersized or physically outgunned. He was mentally outgunned, though. He came out with a poor strategy and lost points as a result.

Starocci's success is not coincidental, luck, or favorable calls from the ref. He wrestles too many matches just like this one, and wins them all, for that to be true. His mental approach to folkstyle is superior even while his mental approach to everything else is problematic.

4x national champ, 6th year senior beats a true freshman without getting a takedown in 7 minutes and we have threads praising the 6th year senior while saying the true freshman had a “Poor strategy”. Crazy.

I'd simplify and say his #1 priority if that his opponent never has a chance to win. Meaning he isn't gonna open himself up if he feels like there is a 10% chance the position won't go his way. Position supersedes all other concerns, and if that means less points than so be it. As great as he is, you can't say what you can say about later stage Nickal Retherford Nolf etc, which is that its gonna be next to impossible to beat them with one TD.

I'm sure you're idea is in there too....

Nobody gonna remember this match in a year (maybe two.) in 25-26 Angelo may be the next coming of Spencer Lee or he may implode in Hawkeye-ville, only time will tell. HOWEVER, Carter can become a 5X champ (albeit at nearly 25) and if he do, people will recall that, even if he's a schmuck on social media. How many of you recall Cael's last collegiate match in '02? [without googling it]

Often wrong, but never in doubt.

If I was wrestling Starocci, I'd go upper body mode and try to throw him. I bet he'd freak out if somebody aggressively tried to get a bodylock on him and work for a throw.

I hated that dude. What an ego that guy had. I remember him talking between rounds at NCAAs about what cowards guys were who turtled up so he couldn't pin them.

Paul Glenn from Iowa was already mentioned in another cstall related thread without googling it

If you think cstall’s boring antics against tons of opponents won’t be remembered you aren’t familiar with this board.   God forbid but we will have to live through the blue glasses wearing psu faithful army try to put him on the top of the Mount Rushmore of wrestling greats….. where statistically he is the least dominant 4 timer of them all…..   covid giving him a shot at 5 should and does not change that.

name another 4xer with a derogatory nickname like cStall?

I came in with unnecessary heat. I apologize.

Winning by just just enough is super lame. I'm annoyed when Parco does it and was annoyed when Brands, Warner, and other Hawkeyes did it. Sometimes a wrestler just needs to grind out a win. Fine, it happens. After all, you can't know whats all going on behind the scenes, as Shane Sparks loves to point out. But to attribute a close grindy match to a "superior folkstyle mindset"? That's bananas. Nolf and Retherford (my favorite PSU wrestlers) would never wrestle like that. Now there's a mindset that's worth celebrating and writing about. Not whatever this is.

It would take the right guy to pull that off. We would need someone with excellent upper body strength. I vote for Max McEnelly from Minnesota. He's really strong, and he's VERY confident for a freshman. I agree with you that CStar would go nuts if he got thrown. McEnelly should throw him in the first period. Get the takedown and then hold him on his back for 4 near fall points. From then on, try to control the match. Carter would be stunned and would find it difficult to get his rhythm. In addition, McEnelly has excellent reattack shots that could result in a second takedown.

If upper body mode is the way to go, McEnelly is the guy to pull it off.
