From Big 10+ using kids with no clue regarding wrestling rules to seasoned broadcasters  (Tim Johnson) not knowing tie breaking criteria.  Streaming issues with several outlets is always an issue. Big 10 + shows scores with no riding time.   We need to demand better !

How do we hold their collective feet to the fire?

How does one do that, exactly?

What’s your proposal?

It doesn't bother me. Sometimes kind of funny...fist to the back, etc.  You can always turn the sound off.  I'm old enough to remember when the only option to watch high caliber wrestling was to drive for half a day and pay for gas, admission, food, lodging.

I knew some fella was gonna come up with the same tired answer! "Back in my day we had to..........

I don’t mind the BTN+ kids most of the time.  Gets more people exposed to the sport.  Some actually might make good announcers in general someday, just don’t know anything about wrestling

Where is this pool of talented wrestling educated announcers?    I doubt there are tons.  Over time it will get better.  Be happy you get to watch.

Pretty much all sports announcing is boring and useless

I asked first!!

Garner enough ratings to where multiple platforms are airing wrestling simultaneously and the highest viewership aligns with the best broadcasting team. Until then, they can trot whoever they want out there and we can be satisfied that we at least have video coverage. Ratings and money drive the product, and wrestling doesn't provide much in those regards.

We (wrestling fans) find a way to complain about it.   Every year.   Watch the events.  All.  Tape them all.   Help get the ratings  up.   Give them a reason to make it a better product.

I think most of us just enjoy watching college wrestling and save our outrage for things that actually have some impact on our lives, careers, and/or families. Like holy sheeet dude this is what gets you grabbing for your pitchfork?

Watching the big network now.    Um v nebby.   There is riding time on the screen.   This is a marquee matchup today so the announcers are top of the heap too.

seems to be great attendance in the camera angles I see too.   How many fans does that place hold ?

edit.  They showed the upper deck.    Not as full as I thought

There's an easy solution to this problem. The Big Ten and any other conference with student announcers should hire Brian "Voice of the ILLINI" Swaw and me before the season starts to run a webinar on matside broadcasting:

"The A to Z of Play by Play and Color Announcing for College Wrestling."

We would charge our usual speaker fee of $20k each, and put together and run a two-hour course. The first hour would be about the "Play Jar" and the "Game Jar." If you say the word "play" or any of its derivatives (i.e. player, playing, played, etc), you have to put $50 in the Play Jar. At the end of the season, that money goes to the schools RTC program. Same goes for the word "game."

The second hour would be me telling stories about strippers and bar fights and Brian doing his Rick Flair impersonation and telling dad jokes.

It's part of the deal with B1G+.

The Student U broadcasts are hands-on learning that happens to be broadcast on a relatively large outlet. It's also a way for BTN to make some money with a cheap broadcast production.

Sometimes you get guys who know what they're talking about, but other times you'll get a complete noob.

The only way you can "hold their collective feet to the fire" is to not subscribe.

Seriously, I think having student broadcasters is one of the few things that harkens back to the amateur roots of collegiate sports. The idea was fantastic, and although there have been a few painful moments in practice, I think it's a great idea in theory, and it at least gives some credence to a university's mission of educating their students. Schools offer TV and broadcasting degrees, right?

Isn’t it one of the best / only way to build up a crew up competent wrestling broadcasters?   I still wonder as we grow the # of televised duals you stretch the pool of existing announcers.  It may be one of the only ways.   It’s not like psu Iowa is getting kids.   Mn nebby is getting the top crew.   These are the second / third tier dials often.

The kids who don't know the rules are actually kind of funny. The only problem with it is if a casual/non-wrestling fan were to hear them they'd actually know less about the sport than if they muted it.

Watch the matches on BIG 10 Plus that's where the kids come into the broadcast picture no matter the team

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.
