I can imagine an entire squad of one trick ponies doing Lee's armbar, over and over and over again. I suppose that's an improvement over locking up and pushing.

Naw, Iowa needs to hire somebody else.  I hear John Smith is looking for a gig.

Yeah, an entire squad of Olympic golds.

Yeah we were all hoping Dake / Brooks would Olympic Gold;  but the Brands coached the highest mens freestyle medal just saying.

Brooks was closer to being a gold medalist than Spencer.

Thats unclear.  Maybe he was closer to beating Ramazanov than Lee was to besting Higuchi, but he'd still have to defeat Yazdani in the final.  There is no guarantee Yazdani would get injured in this match.

Such a psu blue glasses answer.   He didn’t even win true third….. and we don’t even know if he would beat the Greek.    Sounds like pure jealousy or anti Iowa hatred tbh.

He came closer to beating the gold medalist in his weight class than Lee did.

He scored a takedown. Lee did not. Never came even close.

Also, WTF are you talking about? True third? How is that relevant here?

It’s completely relevant.   He may have finished in 4th place if we didn’t have the stupid 2 third/bronze medals.  You are just wrong.

The record books show:

Lee silver

Kurugliev/brooks bronze

The other fact I see here    You wouldn’t bother to comment if it wasn’t psu/Iowa hatred related.

Why would they wrestle a fictional match that has no basis in the rules?

I mean, why couldn’t they wrestle for true second, too, if we’re dealing in made up hypotheticals?

Speaking of fiction, you're living in a world where a bronze medal is closer to gold than a silver one.

They were just talking about this concept on the golf channel.

Colin Morikawa said of match play golf that in the semi finals player A shoots a 7 under 65 to beat player B who went 6 under 66. In the other semifinal player C shoots level par 72 to beat player D who shot 73.

Player B shoots another 66 in the 3rd place match to beat player D. Player C loses the final to player A while shooting another 72.

Who played better, the 3rd placer, player B, or the second placer, player C.

These people wrestled the same dudes on the same course on the same day in the same bracket?    This isn’t golf and that didn’t happen here.

Gold > silver > two damn bronzes or a tie for third on a golf leader board

The concept isnt very difficult to understand, unless of course you just like arguing for the sake of it

Brackets are a hard concept to understand, it seems.

It begs the question if people like Dake and Snyder should train elsewhere in the future. They've definitely regressed since joining NLWC. Heck, with all the wrestlers they bought for their club they still couldn't outplace HWCs top guy.

You psu homers are delusional.   Yazdani took what 6 major injury timeouts in that match?  It’s all the announcers talk about.     All 6 of his major points were one scoring sequence after one of these major injury timeouts after a passivity…. For being injured.

Your golf analogy doesn’t apply to this.     It doesn’t apply to people in the same wrestling bracket let alone two wrestlers at diff weights in diff brackets.

the match

So you think 4 wrestlers were closer to winning the 2023 NCAA title at 125 than Spencer Lee? That 6 wrestlers were closer to winning at 165 when Alex Marinelli was finishing 8th? Ok.

You are stating opinions as facts, and then just saying othes can't have opinions. Brooks can not have been closer to winning gold definitionally, since Lee made the final and Brooks did not.  Brooks didn't even get to compete against Yazdani, and you're just presuming Brooks would have beaten him,  whereas Spencer actually did beat everyone in his bracket except the gold medalist.  Brooks didn't beat either guy that made the Finals.
