Cael reported Nagao has a very severe injury that required surgery and is out for the season (and maybe longer).  Penn State has Braeden Davis at 133 but as we saw last year he is still hit or miss, especially up at a new weight.  This means 133 could *potentially* be a non-AA weight like it was last year.

Does this open up the team race a bit for a team like Iowa?

If Starocci and Haines both miss weigh ins then it will be a race

I'm not sure even that would make it a race. PSU is deep, deep. I'm sure @Wrestleknownothing could run some numbers from his vast database, but my guess even if PSU lost Starocci and Haines that their backups, plus the remaining PSU starters, could still score enough to win.*

*Now I'm going to look at last year's results to see if that has any foundation in reality.

Edit: I looked.

If you take Penn State's 2024 results and remove Brooks, Haines, Starocci, Truax, Nagao and Davis...they still total 82 points between Kerk, Bartlett, MM and Kasak. Cornell finished second with 72.5 last year.

So without even speculating how many points they may get from Lilledahl, SVN, Barr, hypothetical replacements for Starocci and Haines...PSU is the favorite

This doesn't take in to account the extra points that would be scored by everyone else at the weight without those gents in.  Cornell undoubtedly would not get 72.5 points.  They could get more or less, but they likely don't get 72.5 points.  The brackets would still need to be wrestled, but with those six weights being redrawn it would change matchups, total points, etc.

What will they ever do without his 3 points?

Will losing Nagao make PSU better or bitter?

It doesn't account for a lot of things. Was simply a quick illustration to demonstrate the gap between PSU and everyone else and pat myself on the back for not sticking my foot in my mouth. 😀

There's an embarrassment of riches in Happy Valley these days.

The premise of the thread is idiotic.

Idiotic premise absolutely ---  considering the source "entirely witless" might be more apt.

Damn. Alright, fine. Half the lineup (and a couple back ups) suffer an unfortunate and unprecedented hunting accident while out in the woods with Kasak. THEN we have a race.

If you are referencing Minnahaha - the original was actually a 13 lined Ground Squirrel. Maybe if they change for accuracy you can become a Squirrel?

Probably more like AJ Ferrari transfers in, a party happens, police are called, hostages are taken, the compound is raided, and everyone leaves with at least one gunshot wound. Then we have a race.

Yes, Nagao being out while being PSU's top scorer would totally make this a race that you don't want to miss.
