can you clarify what all that means? Normally I'd try to summarize the other guys opinion to see if they agree but I legit can't do it in this case.

I...don't know that I can.

It felt pretty straight forward.

1-Nobody is trashing him. I didn't SAY anyone was, but, after you mentioned it, yeah, actually...it kinda felt like YOU were(and I made a point of responding to Chrome specifically).

Bringing me to my 2nd point;

2-You mentioned how many frivolous posts there were on this thread, right?

Who's posted the most on this thread?

You're working REALLY hard to share how little you care about him coming back.

You "legit" can't figure out if I agree with your position about him returning to College? Seriously? I will clarify this position further. I do not agree with you. I think it's a big deal, I think it's pretty cool...and I don't see anything wrong with a 24-year-0ld coming back to try and win a 3rd title, I think it'll make the season better.

Ok so you are trying to imply that i'm trashing him?

This is literally why I replied to Chrome on this dude. I'm not getting stuck in one of these never-ending circular loops.

You jumped in and replied to me after I replied to someone else to tell me specifically how "nobody is trashing him." A claim I HADN'T made.

Then I specifically said, "after you mentioned it, yeah, actually...it kinda felt like YOU were."

That's not me "implying," you were, it's me saying it felt like YOU(you-all caps for emphasis) were.

Alright, I should have given you more credit. When you said "you felt" I should not have taken that as an accusation.

So in other words, NIL is worth more than his MMA or WWE prospects.

100%.  As has been obvious for quite some time.  This is what he is good (not good, incredible) at, and the only rational financial move.

Reminds me a little of Michael Jordan.  He is the transcendent best at one thing and isn't good at anything else but insists at trying them.  Although he isn't a jackass like Jordan about it.

He left a lot of money on the table with the Olympics, but he is still young and apparently needed to work through a process -- but he finally got to where he inevitably had to get.

Thankfully so!!!  If he can find and hold his motivation he can accumulate some real wealth while accomplishing true greatness.

This is super exciting.  I'm not sure how one of the best young guys of all time returning could be less than exciting.  Especially with a defending champ in his weight.  And it probably indicates he will resume wrestling for the USA at a time when we didn't have a single champ.

And somehow people want to downplay it?

Totally agree.  Would have gone with a HALLELUJAH response emoji if there was one.

Look, Gable has earned the right to do whatever he wants, but what do we gain from his return to college? He'll probably walk through the season without breaking a sweat, so it's a rather boring storyline that won't do much for the sport. His wrestling probably won't improve much, nor will it need to, so I'm doubtful that another season in the NCAA does anything for him as an athlete. It makes the "doing it for my legacy" stuff sound like double-speak for "I couldn't hack the challenges of being a pro athlete, so I'm coming back to my NCAA safe space where I'm the bully."

Why not at least compete in freestyle against grown ass men from around the planet who will actually challenge him? He'd probably be able to pull the same dough as an RTC athlete that he'll be getting under NIL. And RTC is as good of a bridge to coaching as is making one last run in college.

I know, I know, I should be pumped about Steveson's return, but the vibe seems all wrong.

Does competing in college somehow prevent him from competing in freestyle against grown men?  Did competing in college in the past stop him from beating those same grown men?  Is there a reason his return to college wrestling would have a negative impact on his return to freestyle?

Exactly. And he makes good money doing it which he is totally entitled to do.  And we get to see him wrestle a lot of televised matches.

And hopefully he gets in the groove with the sport and does at least one full quad of freestyle.  Or does everyone who is bored by this think our freestyle team was so good this year that we couldn't use the help?

I wonder if he will receive an unusually high number of forfeits.  Or will teams be afraid of receiving backlash?

Craig Henning got screwed in the 2007 NCAA Finals.

I'm guessing they will use him for a few key duals (maybe Neb, Iowa, tOSU, Mich, SDSU) where a forfeit could make the difference in the dual.  The press release said they expect him for Campbell on 11/24, who has AA Ghadiali at Hwt.  More information about his schedule has been said to come out on Monday.

Receiving backlash? Is there some kind of protest against him? I get he's older than just about everyone in the ncaa but if you're gonna be mad at anyone be mad at the ncaa for allowing that system to be in place that would allow him to do so.

This flip flopping isn't a good sign for Gable's long term career.  Say he comes back and wins a 2nd NCAA title, great for him but no one will really be that surprised or impressed.  Then what?

NFL is out.  WWE is out.  Where does he go from there?

He's 24 he could wrestle through 2028 cement his legacy make a good amount of money and then transition to MMA at 28 as a 2x Olympic champ which would immediately make him one of the most marketable guys out there.

as pointed out earlier in the thread - he wasn't marketable to the WWE

Truzz mentioned MMA not WWE...

he's being coy. ufc and wwe are owned by the same company. if you arent marketable for wwe its likely the ufc wont think you're marketable either. i think thats what he's alluding to.

I think he's still about 4 years younger than Cohlton Schultz. Schultz trains cardio by playing with his grandkids

The Schultz grandchildren are probably serious deadlifts.

WWE requires a push from the company to become relevant for the most part if hes just mowing through people in mma people are going to watch. If its to cheer him on or watch him lose. People want the heel to lose in the WWE but there isn't a real shot they will get hurt or knocked unconscious at least intentionally, there is that element in MMA. Ultimately if he is good at MMA it's going to be hard for him to not turn heads.

I will be surprised if he wrestles more than 4 NCAA matches prior to Big 10 championships. I am thinking the 4-home matches after the first of the year.

Re-read what I wrote. Competing in college doesn't have any impact on his freestyle, or the sport, or (probably) his earnings. I don't really buy the legacy thing because he's already won multiple NCAA titles, Olympic gold, and is something like 200-2 in folkstyle going back to the 8th grade. There's no challenge for him in college.

Unless he has a goal to win another Hodge and tie Cael's record of 3.  But I guess even if he wrestles a heavier schedule, he'd still get serious competition from Starocci/Keckeisen winner, or someone else who may emerge.  I don't know how many total matches a person would need to get consideration from the Hodge committee, maybe 15?
