I think it is safe to say the Uetake experiment demonstrates they do not stand a chance.

I second this. No chance for Japan.

Reported Uetake couldn't take down Roderick, call him "bad coach" for never teaching how.  Probably why Uetake quit and went back to Japan after ~6 years.  JC may finally be onto something here.  🙄

Yes I get freestyle is different but I wonder how a team of Japanese wrestlers would do at the NCAA D-1 level in folkstyle.

We already know how good the Japanese women are at FS.

Not good.

Tadaaki Hatta came to the United States from Tokyo, Japan in 1961 and became an NCAA champion, two-time All-American and two-time Big Eight champion for Oklahoma State University. He helped OSU win NCAA titles in 1964 and 1966 while finishing second in 1965.

If NCAA wrestling switched to freestyle we’d probably be able to attract some high-end international talent. It would make college wrestling more exciting IMO.

How much is Iowa giving Sadulaev(I mean, why not open this up to the Russians as well).

That man doesn't have to get off the bottom once. You're not turning him and I doubt he gets stalled out in 2 minutes. So just a bunch of 1st period TDs, pick neutral, more TDs, probably a fall, and then someone picks top and he probably gets out, but even if he's the worst version of Yonger Bastida on the bottom, still nothing).

Who is this?

The guy who teched Vito 12-0 after destroying Uguev 10-2.

He might be pretty good.

I hear he'll be spending a few months in the NLWC room this winter and is a huge fan of Cael.

It's a free t-shirt from Taylor.

He was a friend and maybe a roommate of Walt Garrison.  Walt said that he was "crazy strong"!

Both his son and Yoshi Nakamura went to St. Eds and were successful wrestlers at UPenn as well!

Honest question - why aren't colleges bringing in these guys anymore, especially after all the success they had in the 60s at OkState? You'd think with NIL, they'd be throwing bags at the top talent to get more titles.

Let’s be real. We wish the USA would be better in freestyle. But could you picture some of these guys getting under some of our best folk riders?

Pretty sure can't use NIL.  Requirements prob much tougher now, not easy for guys like Ono to pass TOEFL.

You think the best in the world wouldn't be able to figure it out?

Bastida and other Cuban Wrestlers who aren't on the same level have mostly figured it out.

This kid would be up 9-2 in the first period against pretty much everyone.

Figure it out? Yes. But it takes more than figuring it out with an absolute hammer.

Not really. You figure it out, it's figured out. You don't need to super duper figure it out.

This kid...who just teched Vito, he comes to Okie St, they spend a year with him on bottom Wrestling, arms in, blocking off, two on one, come up and he'll be out most of the time. On occasion, he'll find his way into scrambles and...figure it out. Vs a guy like Crookham, I think it's entirely likely he beats him right in Folkstyle...but give him a year with, Fix, Gillman, whoever at OSU, or in PSU's program...and I think you could find a strategy to beat him this year. I say Crookham because I believe he'll finish his career with 1 loss and 3NCs if healthy, he's that good.

But you still have 5 minutes on your feet. I think that's...4-5 TDs for the kid who just ran through the WC like his name was Gable.

I'm not understating how good a kid like Crookham is on top or how hard it is to learn how to get out, but it's not like this kid is starting from scratch. Plus, just watch the way the kid Wrestles. I think it'd take about 3 seconds for him to learn a tilt. He looks like Lee on top and...John Smith on his feet.

And he's 20 years old. With respect...that's the same age Beau Bassett will be next year at this time(not a shot, Bassett is a stud...just some context).
