there is 100% truth to the rumor. Here is the absolute head scratcher for me, I was told Ech only weighed 148 after practice...Who the heck knows

Interesting. Perhaps Ech just hates cutting weight. I thought he looked big at 141 last year but some guys just carry weight differently (i.e. Ryan Deakin).

I would assume Ech loses crazy weight when he sweats just because he carries so much water in his muscles but maybe those last few pounds when he's dehydrated are terrible.

if Casey navigates 141 I think he's a contender. I however think it will negatively affect what makes him so good.

Contender to AA or title contender? I don't see him in the Mendez/Alirez/Barlett tier. I think he would be a tier 2 or 3 guy that would be a contender to AA.

Nobody gave him a shot against Mendez the last two times they wrestled, either.

A lot has transpired since Swid and Mendez last wrestled lol. Like Jesse Mendez winning an NCAA title and being an absolute hammer. I am not sure that Swid and Mendez have the same level of commitment year round to being the best in the world at wrestling.

if you put Beau,Jesse,Alirez tier 1 I would say he slots in comfortably tier 2 assuming he manages the cut.

I would agree with that. I would probably put Hardy, Lemley, Orine, Happel, Koderhandt and Vombaur into tier 2 with Swiderski.

will they wrestle semis and the finals tonight of the weights with four guys?

Not to my knowledge. Those are the bouts. Lehigh does them as more of an exhibition- not as formal wrestleoffs anymore.

I don't think any of the gents you mentioned are Tier 2.  To me Tier 2 should be able to beat Tier 1.  I don't see any of them beating Alirez or Mendez.  Bartlett?  Sure.

141 Tiers to me:

Tier 1 - Mendez(tOSU), Alirez(UNC)
Tier 2 - Bartlett(PSU)
Tier 3 - Hardy(UN), Happel(UNI)
Tier 4 - Lemley(UofM), Koderhandt(Navy), Schwartz(OU), Swiderski(ISU)
Tier 5 - Vombaur(Minny), Titus(WVU), Vasquez(ASU), Cornella(Corn), Edmond(Mizzou)
Tier 6 - Henson(LHU), Composito(Penn), Hines (Leh), Olivieri(Rut),
Need to see more - Cannon(NW), Hughes,(OSU), Orine(NCSt), Latona (VT)

All four of the 'see more' gents are coming up from 133.  Not everyone can do that, and until we see that with them, they don't get 'Tiered' by me.  This is kind of from the hip, and I am sorry if I missed someone.

I could see Swiderski being argued in to Tier 5 because he has losses to two guys in that tier, however I could see him beating Hardy and Happel.  Tier 5 is a complete shitshow.  They could lose or beat anyone from 4-6, so that is a fun go-round.

*Keep in mind the way my 'tiers' work is that you can beat an opponent one above you and lose to an opponent one below you, but you shouldn't expect to beat or lose to someone greater than one tier away from you unless injury or pinfellery or something out of the ordinary happens

Edit:  Keep in mind we have a sample sizing of Swiderski at 141lbs as well.  It wasn't nearly as good as last year at 149lbs.  Was that due to weight management, youth, or a mixture of both?

Os is not used to this college cutting, and staying down. He is doing good, and adapting for sure. I think you are right, he is prolly a lifetime 125. Frost is cutting his balls off, he and Grice are cutting really hard. As far a Terukina, I am so back and forth with him. You go watch him, when he wants to go, he is pretty tough, but it is just in spurts. In my personal opinion, Dresser wants someone consistent. Os could be the dude. BUT Grice is tough as heck; the problem is he is kinda of inconsistent, too.

Any concerns with Grice's gas tank down at 125? I know it's way to early to tell, but just asking. An Oz-Figs matchup at the ASU dual would be fun to see.

Not that Margin of victory means a ton especially when you extrapolate out over a year but Ben davino beat Andre Gonzalez 11-1 in their wrestle off. Gonzalez wrestled off Bouzakis for the spot last year and Bouzakis beat him 7-6.

Gonzalez lost to Bassett last year 11-1 as well.

He also lost to Ragusin 8-5 and 7-6(TB1).

This is relevant imo. Combine with Bouzakis' inconsistency, I think we have a roster battle brewing.

I was glad to see Davino control Gonzales, Bouzakis needs to step up or he may lose his spot.

True frehman E'than Birden lost 1-1 to returning starter Hepner at 165. Birden solid D needs to work on some offense during his RS year.

Agreed. In fact, I believe Davino is the favorite to win the spot. Bouzakis' brutish style isn't conducive to major collegiate success. Takes a little more than a head in the hole cradle, and cow catcher to win.

Also..just went 0-1 at u23 worlds

I see Davino and Bouzakis both getting starts and the decision carrying out into January.

You're missing relevant information with this.  If you want to include that he went 0W - 1L at U23s, you must also recognize that he not only won, but dominated the U23 61 KG trials.  That bracket included Ayala, Nagao, Phipps, Noto, Serrano, and many other NQ type wrestlers.

Yeah if NCAA switched the National Tournament to Freestyle Bouzakis would be the favorite for the 133lb title IMO

I can definitely see Bouzakis losing the spot to Davino but anyone that uses freestyle as a reason for him being inconsistent isn't paying attention. He has been a dominant domestic freestyle force at tOSU and even back to HS

Stanich ended up not competing in the Lehigh Wrestle Offs. Any knowledge anyone has on that?

sounds like Lehigh doesn't use these wrestle-offs to determine starting spots any longer (if they ever did) and use it as more of an exhibition - per @gimpeltf
