Beat me to it.

Also they allegedly contacted Keckheisen and offered him 'an obscene amount of money' to join their squat in '23-'24.

Both cases seem to be done with proxies, which may have been legal (who knows what the rules are now, let alone in the past?).  However, PSU is definitely in the poaching game.  People associated with PSU are actively poaching guys, some of whom were definitely not in the portal.

Maybe I'm misremembering, but I'm pretty sure Rivera is out if eligibility...

🤦‍♂️

Come on man. Calling an Olympic medalist years after they graduate to see if they want to join your wrestling club (NLWC) isn't exactly the same thing as paying an active wrestler to displace your 25-4 6th year senior on your college team.

You don’t think Nagao was poached too do you?

Absolutely, but he at least pretended to handle it like a second recruitment.  Looks like he might lose his job this year, too.  All part of God's plan, I'm sure.

The difference with Rivera and Keck is that we have reports of PSU associates initiating contact.

The article says wrestle for PSU  not nlwc.   I’m inclined to believe this was a poaching request back when he had eligibility.

That's because the article is garbage.  Did you read it?  It looks like it was written by a beta version of the world's crappiest AI engine.  The context is they were talking about recent events.  It was NLWC and it was post-grad.

Free chat gpt knows the diff between psu wrestling and the nlwc…. I asked it.

Sure the article is written a little poorly.   Check some other threads were kind of a niche sport…. It’s not like ESPN has staff writers waiting around to write articles about this.

Even if the writer has room for improvement.  Sebastian said it.  He in fact transferred.  It’s possible they tried to poach him and made a lame attempt to recruit over Robbie Howard…. I mean Carl has recruited over  returning AAs…..   and Robbie wasn’t exactly looking like podium material.

When you're a grad student and a free agent that is completely acceptable. I am surprised that people choose to not know the difference between the situations.

Come on man.  Why are you so aggressively insistent on posting lies? Just listen to the actual audio of the podcast they're writing about.  It starts at 30:30:

"They actually, they texted me, Bo Nickal. You wanna come down, after the Olympics, you wanna come down to NLWC?"

If that is what you were told, or read on these forums, then you are only paying attention to anti-Iowa rhetoric.  That is a you thing.

This.  The article is clearly referring to the podcast, which only referred to recently.  So no issue with that.

If they tried to get Keckeisen however, yes that would be Iowa-level.

Considering the quality of the sources on this thread, I'm not holding my breath.

The video is what it is … but if you ever see anything from “Essentially Sports” you can skip it. It’s designed to generate clicks with AI generated sensationalized headlines.

I hate you for making me read that piece of garbage article. Every sentence is a hot mess of very poor AI writing. How you can read that and think it was about college is beyond me.

That seemed to be an unrelated claim.  @Interviewed_at_Weehawken where did you hear that?

Athletor podcast.  Doug Schwab episode. Mike Mal says to Schwab 'I won't mention any names... but he might have received a phone call and an offer of a good chunk of change to leave and go somewhere that "might sound like Penn State'"

I don't think he means Kent State.

He didn't take the bait; they went with Truax instead.

No, he doesn't come right out and say it, but I think it is pretty clear what he means.  Schwab did not try to correct him either.

If I ever needed to create some gratitude for pyles it would just take a few seconds of watching MM posture.

haha I listen to a lot of podcasts... MM does a ton of posturing every episode.  But he does have some good guests and does manage to cover some interesting stuff.
