The distribution for the NCAA weights makes sense: 125 - 133 (8 pounds), 133 - 141 (8 pounds), 141 - 149 (8 pounds), 149 - 157 (8 pounds), 157 - 165 (8 pounds), 165 - 174 (9 pounds), 174 - 184 (10 pounds), 184 - 197 (13 pounds). The heavier weights have greater weight spans. For free, I would suggest: 60, 63, 68, 75, 84, 94, 104, 130 based on larger spans at higher weights.

I've long liked the method of weights staying as close as possible to NCAA weights, but with a (very) little room for growth.

57 kilos = 125.7 pounds

61 kilos  = 134.5 pounds

64 kilos = 141.1 pounds

68 kilos = 149.9 pounds

72 kilos = 158.7 pounds

75 kilos = 165.3 pounds

79 kilos = 174.2 pounds

84 kilos = 185.2 pounds

90 kilos = 198.4 pounds

102 kilos = 224.9 pounds

125 kilos = 275.6 pounds

I tossed an eleventh weight in there for more opportunity. I know it will never happen.

I can't stress enough how little the rest of the world cares about Folkstyle wreslting and the weight classes that they use.

You should try because it doesn't seem to be sinking in...:classic_dry:

I do not disagree at all.

Flipping your proposal also works. Tweak the NCAA weights to follow the UWW weights. They're already pretty close, though we all know that the extra pound or two feels like a huge difference when cutting weight 😅

Wouldn't the following be more accurate...?

(I know they aren't exact, but no weight jump up in this is less than the previous/lighter one).

What “many” great competitors is 57kg too high for?  Kurt McHenry?  He’s the only one I can think of.

There are probably fewer in the US than other countries, but there is also a selection bias since the lightest weight class in college competition is 125.  Being forced to compete at 125 pushes out the really small guys.  I think wherever they put the lightest weight the best guys will be cutting a lot of weight 48, 52, 54, 55, 57, 58, or 60kg it doesn't matter.

Entries at the last two World Championships 2022, 2023, total.  Entries at 57kg seems to be as high or higher than 97 and 125 KG.

57: 31, 33, 64

61: 24, 27, 51

65: 27, 45, 72

70: 28, 30, 58

74: 34, 45, 80

79: 32, 27, 59

86: 30, 48, 78

92: 23, 24, 47

97: 23, 35, 58

125: 24, 33, 57
