Flo promoting gambling

Recommended Posts

Seems to be gambling promotion on the regular.  Distasteful.

I enjoy their product as a whole but their pretty constant promotion and ‘excitement’ over gambling is in poor form.

They do say be responsible.  Hey, try cocaine - very exciting and fun, but be responsible.

They have been talking about it a bunch during the Olympics, but even though I don’t gamble I don’t mind it as there aren’t many chances to really gamble on wrestling.  They also usually throw in the obligatory “please bet responsibly.”

But hopefully you aren’t referencing the promotion of the Lineup Legends contest, as that is free to enter.

We're watching this shit play out across all sports. It's almost like the OxyContin...sorta.

You're spreading shit, promoting it IN sports(more in the NFL, NBA, MLB) that you KNOW is going to destroy lives, but...whatever, you're getting a cut.

Now...I like to place a bet from time to time, but that shit is...well...addictive. That's why I set pretty strict limits, but...I can already see the 20 for 20 in 20 years after a high profile athlete gets popped for betting on games. So far it's been Ridley and then some AAAA players in MLB. But once it's some prospect with huge upside.... "He was a sure bet...until he risked it all."

I don't know what he's referencing, I don't go on Flo, but so many of these sports shows are sponsored by FanDuel or whatever else. Hey, they'll match the first 100 dollars you'll likely lose because...who quits when they're ahead!

Agreed. Might as well start advertising Marlboro Red's as well.

I did that once and now all I have to show for it is a 7,500 sqft house that my fintech job provided

Half the zoomers that work for me have full blown gambling problems that masquerade as a Fanduel hobby. I'll jump in and agree that i hate seeing the rapid growth and acceptance of this.

A lot of my friends from college have full blown or borderline gambling problems that they also masquerade as a fun little hobby. It's no longer a "fun little hobby" when you have a wife and kids and are blowing money at the expense of your family because you have a gambling problem.

The house wins. You lose.

Is it a gambling problem if the bet is 100% a sure thing? Mijain Lopez only emerges once every four years. You can’t just let an opportunity for free money like that pass!

Don’t disagree but I think FRL talking about odds for an event that happens once every 4 years is the least of the concerns

They are making it sound like a lot of fun and that there are good bets to makes. Giving advice on where to bet.  Talking about it a lot on FRL.  Hoping that disappears post Olympics.  A quick reference … ok … but they dwell on it and really promote it.

Fair point, it's just something that i lament on the overall acceptance of, I was speaking more to that than the FRL spots.

Er...eh, that one isn't really gambling...that's just free money.

Who isn't promoting gambling these days?

I think this is the point.

It isn't hard. I bet with an old Italian man who...may or may not have been a bookmaker tied to organized crime(I'm genuinely not sure, if you didn't/couldn't pay, you just couldn't bet anymore).

I suppose as a point of reference, that's worse. Gambling with money you don't have with someone who MAY come after you if you lose. So in that respect, you're better off with Fanduel than a Bookie, but...it's still just not good.

I know ONE person who gambles and wins. They're a professional poker player. I suspect there are also plenty of people who can gamble on one or two things and be fine. That ain't me. If I start, I'd be putting 100 down on Australia at -2500 to win...Break Dancing or whatever.

Hell, I'd have bet good money on Lee winning the Olympics if I still bet. That seemed like a good bet to me. Same as Dake(which I hope will prove to be a good bet). But you throw 100 bucks down on both, you're still in the red. It's not like it comes out to zero.

I do enjoy Mattress Mack and his bets. He's managed to find a way to not lose...

Dake already lost, so it's a good thing you stopped betting!

FLO announced they have a film coming up on Chance Marsteller. They’re calling it “their best yet.” This is an area where I feel FLO sets themselves apart from all others when it comes to documentaries of our wrestlers. Watched Chance here locally and followed his career and beyond. Everyone deserves a second “chance” and I’m just happy to see this guy make the best out of his.
