I've had this thought for years. I think 57 is too much of cut for him and I thought looked great the year he got a world sliver. I can see him having a Luke Pletcher like transformation the year he went 141.

Pletcher had tree trunks for a bottom half.  141lbs was better suited for him once he grew than 133lbs.

it'd be a much bigger jump than pletcher and at a higher level of wrestling. His top work would suffer a lot, i don't think its possible.

How do you think it's a bigger than what Pletcher had they both have that short stocky build. I think he'd have more energy which could potentially let him finally let his offense open up more.

He really did, I'm not sure Fix would fill out the weight the same but I can see it being better for his career long term.

well one went from 133 to 141, the other from 125.5 to 145.5.

His lack of offence has nothing to do with energy.

Is Vito going 57? Then Fix needs to hit the gym and start bulking.

Both Vito and Fix indicated in their post-final interviews that they'd be now focused on cutting down to 57kg for the OTT.

(Someone asked Vito what he weighed at NCAAs.  Vito: <looking around confusedly) "133?")

Fix has always been better at Freestyle, though obviously very good at Folkstyle as well.

His scrappy square stance is aimed at getting him head pinches and chest wraps, from what I recall he has a dirty inside trip, a gnarly leg-ride gut, and a very solid leg lace as well.

Theres 0% chance if Fix continues wrestling he will do it up at 65kg.
He's not a dominant force on the world stage as is. (Coming from me, an Oklahoman and Fix fan)
He will ABSOLUTELY go 57kg for the Olympics and 61kg for non-olympic worlds. Or if Vito becomes this hurdle he can't overcome , maybe he will go the opposite weight of Vito for the foreseeable.....

Going 65kg is just "punting" his career. Similar to Mark Hall at 86kg. "I want to be around the sport but I'm done trying to actually win a world title"

I don't think it is similar to Mark Hall.  Hall could not make 74 KG at all, ever, and be functional.  He knew that and knows that.

Fix is a 57 KG guy.  He knows that.  Two different understandings to the game.

Going to have to agree to disagree on this one. I absolutely believe Mark could've dialed it back and worked his way down to 74kg. Staying at 79kg would've helped. I think he saw the roadblocks that Dake and JB presented and just said, "Why kill myself year round when we have World champions at 3 weights in a row." and just kind of accepted being 2-4th in line at a more comfortable weight.
Great wrestler but one of the many that existed when you had to be the best in the world to represent the USA above 70kg

His head alone weights 70 KG.

Was he going to be a MODOK or something?

ok so based on your response I'm curious how you think he does at the trials, and if you think he belongs at 65K

I HOPE the cut to 57 kg goes ok for him.  If everything lines up well, he was a world silver medalist, he could compete for a spot.  But...he's spent a long time at 133, and frankly he looked pretty solid at NCAA's, looked like he was using every 1/10th of a pound to get to 133, so I think the cut will be rough, and he may come out flat.

But up at 65kg, I don't think he has a chance.  The frame difference, and subsequent horsepower difference between weight classes is so enormous, I think he'd get bounced 1st round.  His arms and legs aren't long enough, locking his hands for guts may become a challenge, and he just spent a whole season making 33, so maybe with some time off he gets up to 155 at his heaviest, any of the dudes he will be competing against will be coming down from ~175.  I think it's too big of a jump.

yeah thats all good. I generally try to push back on people who say "just bump up" in reference to senior level athletes.

Maybe one day if all world weights become olympic weights, it will be a bit more manageable, but the current weight class gaps are so enormous, you just run into a different level of physicality.  The only person I can think who has been able to really manage a modicum of success across olympic weight gaps was dake when he made the olympic trial finals in 2016.

Worth pointing out that it took taylor 2 years to be a legit 189...meaning you can do it, just not on a whim.

That is a great point too, he was built like a baby deer down at 74 kg.  Functional weight gain like that doesn't happen overnight.

unless you're dieringer.......which was really suspicious.

Well...now we're getting to the other unspoken side of things that most people don't want to acknowledge...the influence of east german apple juice on modern sport...

his turning ability is what makes him so good at freestyle. I think he would lose that a bit at 65 imagining him wrestling Yianni,Lee,Zain just does not seem like he has the frame for that. I really think he's a leg attack to both sides that he can find consistently away from being a medal threat every year. But against great guys he has not developed that yet and I do not know that for as long as hes been elite it will happen. He's always in the matches with Gillman and Gillman may be declining a tad and I think he matches up very well with Richards. So if he is able to cut the weight better than Vito he may be able to challenge Spencer for the spot this year. I personally want Vito to look like Vito because I think that means we have a gold medal but whoever comes out of that gauntlet we should feel very good about.

That is true, but Taylor had the frame to grow into. I don’t see that in Fix’s case.
