Depending on the level we’re talking about, I think it has to go between Jordan Burroughs, Damion Hahn and Bruce Baumgartner.

Hahn makes the cut here bc JB didn’t get really good til his junior year in college.

Fellow Jersey native here.  Maybe it is recency bias here but I think I would throw Suriano into the discussion if we are speaking from a high school/college standpoint.  If we are speaking on international accolades though, I think we can just disregard this comment for now.

Who is the best wrestler from your state?

Indiana is not a premier state, and some of its best wrestlers have competed in other states for high school. But it’s produced some elite wrestlers anyway.

Not sure who the best is, but some of the best are Micic (world champ), Escobedo, Howe, Nick Lee, and Parris.

Steveson lived in Indiana for a while but it doesn’t really count.

Hildebrandt is the best women’s wrestler.

H.S.- Alex Tsirtsis hands down

college and beyond, who you mentioned. I like to add Jason Tsirtsis here because he might have been a multi NCAA champ from Indiana.

All time high school-Carry Kolat

All time college- Carlton Haselrig, Zane Rutherford, Wade Schalles, Jason Nolf, Ty Moore, Spencer Lee,  I could go on and on, tough to single one out.

Current college- Carter Starocci, Levi Haynes

Current high school-Bo Basset?

Myron Roderick was pretty good.  Also a decent coach, AD and racquetball player.

Just saw this and wanted to share a recent experience I had with an older gentleman at a humane society pancake breakfast we hosted.  I was volunteering as a server and approached this senior couple about their order.  The gentleman was wearing an Oklahoma State cap and I commented that I was a former wrestling coach and very familiar with Okie State wrestling/John Smith.  He proceeded to tell me he had played football for Oklahoma State and asked me if I knew who Myron Roderick was.  I told him that any astute follower of wrestling was familiar with Roderick.  He then shared that he and Myron played racquetball together and even paired up for some doubles.  They were close friends up to the time of Myron's death.  This gentleman had married a lady from our area and sold his real estate business in Tulsa and moved to smaller town Midwest Missouri.  Just a chance meeting that ended up being an interesting story.  They also left a very generous tip for our local shelter.

Sorry about the highjack.

EDIT: Zain Retherford

Kolat is right there.

Next couple of years Spencer Lee and/or Jason Nolf can make things interesting.

I currently live in Nebraska and have only been REALLY following the sport for about 7 years now, who are some of the best historically?

Expand

My first blush guess is Brad Vering. 3x state champ, 3x AA at Nebraska w/ 1x national champ. Was also a 2x Olympian in Greco. I'm sure I'm forgetting a person or two.

Since there seem to be no rules...

HS - Alan Fried (I always get pushback from folks about Luke Fickell, Taylor, Kemp and numerous others. I get it)

College - Lee Kemp (Steiber, Taylor)

HS/College/International - David Taylor (Kemp)

Expand

Nice, I have a hard time not having Alan Fried in the discussion (high school especially)  Was definitely fun to watch, very good technically and a great competitor.
