Here is the question that should be asked.... If McGonagle beat Vito, would he be ranked #1?

Maybe?

Fun fact, McGonagle's only (non-injury default) loss last season to someone in this year's 133 field was to Fix

I personally do not think they would have ranked McGonagle #1 but I could be wrong.

I’d like to say they’re wrong, but crookham handed vito his hat in that match.  If it was a one point match maybe, but vito didn’t have answers, or crookham just had all the answers.

Flo should have to have an official rep at every match and tournament they cover or they don’t get ranking rights.
if you know…you know.

I came out of the womb bitching.

"It's too bright in here, this place smells like tuna, this blanket itches, Vito is god-like, blah, blah, blah......"

Maybe.  I personally think it makes less sense to only have him at #5 as Intermat does than #1.

#2 with Fix #1 probably would've been the right middle ground.

That is an odd take. He has exactly the resume after beating #6 and then #1.

That's not a complete enough resume to take over a #1 spot when a guy like Vito is at the top.  Vito has wins over Fix, RBY, and multiple other AAs.

Also, the win over #6 is his practice partner.

Not this year, he doesn't. He has one lose to a guy who was not believed to be the starter.

I think the overall question is how exactly do last year's wins get factored in?  I'm sure there are different schools of thought but I thought typically they form the basis for the preseason ranking, but shouldn't really be factored in after that, but it seems that's what Willie's doing for example, as he mentioned Crookham's loss to Cannon.

But that was in response to a good point by Kozak, who pointed out that just based on Crookham's season last year, he would have been ranked 10 or 11 to start the season, so him jumping to 1 after beating #6 and #1 isn't all that crazy.
