wtf are you talking about?

since when is 'wealth redistribution' a prereq for being left?

that's the thing. the nutbag lefts went way down the road.

that's where most of us (me, maher, etc) bid adieu to you crackheads.

now being 'left' means socialism.

and in case you missed it, the left has gone full scale war hungry, not the right.

No, that's what it's always meant. When you say leftist, the word you actually mean is liberal. You may see them as synonymous, but there are deep ideological divides.

Leftist = anticapitalist, anti-imperialist ; Liberal = capitalist, imperialist

Bill Maher is a liberal. Liberals have always supported empire and capitalism.

If you're referring to Ukraine, Liberals have gone nuts on that because of so-called "Russiagate." That is not a leftist thing and nearly every major leftist outlet and organization has been calling for a cease-fire since the first days of the invasion.

This is how stupid Ban is....

he doesn't realize there's been a radical shift in the party he's been so intimately involved in for decades but....

Bernie might have been the 2016 candidate had the crooked DNC not railroaded him.

yes, a socialist. and socialist policies literally enacted.

You have a very narrow sense of the history of political development which is what happens when you get all of your political news and views from twitter conservatives.

Ban is right. The "Left" in America used to be much stronger. Bernie would have been a mainstream democrat from 1930-1970. He's nothing more than an FDR "new deal democrat."

The Communist Party USA used to have millions of card carrying members. Eugene Debs ran for president for the Socialist Party from prison in 1920 and received nearly a million votes. America in general was a far more "left-believing" country prior to the Reagan Revolution. High taxes and wealth redistribution through a robust welfare state were the common sense beliefs of the public through the golden age that modern conservatives pine for.

Following the 1970's recession, Reagan stormed to power and ended the FDR era. The neoliberal turn by the Democratic Party led by the Clintons ensured it wouldn't return for a long time (or ever).

you're full of shit and misinfo, Bernard.

you're clearly half crocked. Bernie is a mfing socialist. there's nothing 1950's about the amount of support he got.

which is, your moron sympathizers actually had him in the race in 2016.

but oh yeah, the crooked as ever DNC railroaded him.

i'm now questioning all you've posted.

Willie, go look at FDR's policies and compare them to Bernie's. They're nearly identical.

Is the UK a Socialist country? Canada? France? Germany? Bernie is a standard Labour Party member over there. Government Healthcare and Welfare.

The gaslighting doesn’t fool anyone.  Berny’s as communist as you get and he got millions of votes.  Hiliary claims to be a Wilson/Sanger progressive: Wilson and Sanger that are known for their racism.  Today’s kids suffer from being indoctrinated by possibly the strongest anti-human bunch we’ve ever experienced: the teachers unions.  They are the people who are convincing your kids that people are the animals that shouldn’t be on earth, and to aid that goal, they introduce sex and tell them they can choose, for themselves, whichever one they want, all before they’ve lost their baby teeth.  After Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, and others, most intelligent people discarded any infatuation they may have had with a designed utopia.  The ones we deal with today are either opportunists or nihilists.

In your mind, what is the difference between Bernie and FDR?

Is the Conservative Party of Canada a socialist party? They support single-payer healthcare. The Tories? Them too. Every conservative party outside the US in the developed world does.

Is the US the only non-communist country in the developed world? I'm genuinely curious what you think.

@Husker_Du Here's a question. Trump handed out over $20 billion in aid to farmers during his term. He increased it significantly from where it was. That is direct wealth redistribution from the tax payer to farmers. Is that not socialism to you?

What about the $800 billion in Covid relief checks? $1800/person paid for by the rich? How is that not socialism to you?

Genuinely curious how you feel about these things?

There is a pisspoor understanding of socialism in the world.  Most people don’t even think about it, which is all well and good.   The ones who think about it enough to use it as an insult really, really don’t understand it.

Or,  for that matter,  Marx' five stages.

When I proudly proclaim myself as a Communist,  one of two things happen.  One,  they use socialism and communism interchangeably,  and,  two,  don't know that Marx was  critical of socialism and warned for it to be transitory.

So,  no,  Marx was not wrong,  but ridiculously right.

Bill Maher is not a leftist. He’s always hated Muslims.

Leftists love the religion of Mohammad and all of its tenets?!?  If so it is only under the "enemy of my enemy" concept and not through any intellectual understanding of that religion of "peace" nor any of its principles.

Maher is a leftie but one who actually has principles and knows that a bunch of choir boys and eagle scouts and veterans are not the terrorists the FBI claims they are.  He probably believes that that people who declare his existence to be expendable and their mission in life to execute that declaration are much more of a threat to himself and to all of humanity.  I guess that makes him actually MORE respectful of Muslims because he believes them and takes their statements seriously.

It’s so funny that conservatives say things like this but the more our country distances itself from these countries, the more you say things are going wrong and we need to return to the way things used to be when you were growing up.

Well guess what, things were much closer to those countries back then! Our government and economy wasn’t totally controlled by multinational corporate interests, we had a strong social safety net, strong unions and labor protections, healthcare and education didn’t ruin you financially, the food wasn’t poison, etc…Now that we’re living in the capitalist, deregulated utopia you dreamed of everything sucks!

It’s bad and makes your acceptance of Israel doing the same thing incomprehensible.

Not even remotely close to "doing the same thing" and you've already acknowledged as much in your posts.

Your posts are sometimes genuine. I'd suggest furthering your effort to make them all align.

you can't be serious.

all those places have turned into dumpsters.

and the major cities in the US with policies and sympathies that align with them are equal shitholes.

so first you said 'wealth redistribution' is necessary to be a leftist and then you said 'Trump did it'. make up your mind.

as far as what i think (which doesn't much matter)

i was against the Covid relief checks initially but i understood that it was a worldwide pandemic and a unique situation. I thought each additional release of funds was ridiculous. and yes, i know it was started under trump.

a couple weeks after businesses opened back up, i went to a bar in downtown Easton. The bartender started making small talk and i asked if things had been slow. he said 'no, we've been busier than usual.' i said 'why's that, you think.' he said, 'there's a lot of rift raft that usually hadn't had money but now they got the government checks.'

as far as ag subsidies... idk. i frankly don't know enough about it. and there's a 'price control' factor in there to consider.

generally speaking, i don't most measures of wealth redistribution. nor do i think it's a prerequisite to be a democrat.

if it is, you're supporting my point that the left has taken a radical turn. so idk what your point is. thanks, i guess.

From where I sit, very well said.

The wealth distribution of "$800 billion in Covid relief checks? $1800/person paid for by the rich?"

Seems to have been an effective measure. Not just for R's or D's - but for the country in general. No problem there.

Some label it 'leftist' and get angry.
Some label it 'socialist' and get angry.
Some label it as a 'Trump move' and get angry.

Seems like a lot of folks like labels and like getting angry about them.

Personally, I like effective government. I try not to listen to those that are handing out labels and the associated anger.
