I’m still a Facundo fan but he only sees the lineup if someone else takes a RS or gets injured.

They have a shit tonne of Olyshirts available, so it is hard to tell what they will do even if Stalrocci doesn't return.

They could even do Barr at 174 with Facundo and Mesenbrink on Olyshirt, Haines at 165 and a Lee or Bearclaw at 157 and still win NCAAs running away.

Starrocci not returning still a thing?  Have heard nothing other than he'll be in the lineup

Personally I think that last match was as close as Woods would be able to hope for against someone of Alirez caliber.  I think Bartlett is likely to be on a trajectory to place himself above Woods for this coming year

How skewed is this assessment based on freestyle results from Alirez and Barlett? Bartlett may have unlocked something but he was clearly a tier below Woods last year. Alirez and Woods were a toss up with Alirez hitting an amazing leg vine throw being the difference.

Tier 1: Alirez, Woods

Tier 2: Barlett, Hardy, Cole Matthews

Tier 3: about 20 guys

Jordan Burroughs took 3rd at 149 before moving up to 157 and winning.

Retherford took 5th at 141 before taking a RS, bumping up to 149 and killing everyone for three years.

Anybody care to make a list of finalists who moved up and won? I'm sure I'm just fixated on those who haven't and so I am drawing a blank.

Duhh. My bad. What about guys that weren't champs at the lower weight?

This could be a long list if we go back further than recent memory.  To add from what others have already posted.

Ryan Deakin, Anthony Ashnault, Macchiavello

He doesn't like Mizzou too much either!

To be honest with you my bias is usually in favor of small market amd underdog teams - which pushes against the edge of unrealistic.  But the reason why I have some other big schools doing well is that I liked those guys before they transfered away from Cal Baptist and North Dakota State.  Missouri is traditionally one of the strongest teams (as well as NC State) which are always competitive but their lineup is almost always home grown (few meaningful incoming transfers)

As far as a former natty champ who enjoyed an amazing growth trend throughout his HS & college career was Jon Llewellyn (may he R.I.P.)  He began HS as a 98 pound freshman.  He finished HS as a 167-pounder.  He began college as a 167-pounder (if I'm not mistaken).  And ended his career as the NCAA HWT National Champ, defeating Kurt Angle.

That was an incredible amount of growth. Very nice wrestling  career. I went from 103 iin 9th grade to 167 in college.

I think Mesenbrink will start.  Cael hopes he doesn’t win to keep his only undefeated 4xer status in tact

Yes I believe he made another recent social media post debating it.  I assume he’ll be back though

That post is hogwash.  The kid is addicted to attention.  Nothing more

Man, that’s a scary lineup!

I wanted PSU to add VT back on their schedule. After seeing this, I no longer want that lol
