With the pressure that is being put on this kid to be the next coming of Spencer Lee, I hope he doesn't Chittumself.

It's Friday, so I can safely say this with confidence:

You won the week.

As an aside and on a more serious note... Chittum wasn't even the 2nd best 149 or 157 gent in the Minnesota room.

So I suppose it is fair to assume that if nobody from Minny enters B1Gs or NCAAs then he is the favorite, right?

Craig Henning got screwed in the 2007 NCAA Finals.

It comes off as sour grapes from someone like me but yeah, I think Chittum is going to struggle more at the college level than most realize. Among other things I think he’s a better freestyle guy than folk.

I have said it a few times now in a few different threads, but I think he is a smaller version of Taylor Massa or (new addition from me) Justin Zeerip.  Two phenomenal recruits that wrestled high school with a physical size, strength, and power advantage over every wrestler they ever met.  When the skill gaps are so large, it looks almost as if they aren't interested in being there.

When they got to college they immediately found out that most of the guys they were wrestling were able to go toe to toe and even best them in the physical department and their skill was higher, so they struggled.

Chittum struggled against 149lbers with the limited sample he had.  He will struggle even more so with 157lbers.

Now, I am a big fan of Zeerip and Massa, I don't want this to be mistaken for ridicule.  They are inspirational stores and both are succeeding at life.  Zeerip and his brother Collin are Co-Head Coaches at Whitehall, MI (Ira Jenkins of Michigan is from there).

I am by no means a HS scouting expert but I was literally just typing up something similar. Would you put Bouzakis potentially in the same boat?  In the limited I saw of him in HS I thought similarly.

Honestly?  With how much he dominated and how he dominated?  Yes.  He struggled at 141 in his lone match against another true frosh who he would have destroyed two years ago at the same weight (126/132).

I hope I am wrong, but he hasn't physically grown despite getting larger for 2-3 years (Bouzakis and Chittum both, actually).

Feel the same about Gabe Arnold.

I don’t understand why everyone is so up in arms about the O.Al’s question.

Yes…… Cody Chittum is the favorite as we sit here today to be Iowa’s 157 next year.

This point is actually pretty accurate.  Who TF are you and where did you come from?  Are you a JC burner account?

Hopefully Brands can coach up young Chittum, Iowa is in desperate need of a diamond in the rough appearing. He isn't even ranked on FLO or Willies big board for 2022 or 2023, so clearly most Iowa fans are just being overly optimistic about his potential as usual. Heck, just winning the starting spot at a program such as Iowa without even being ranked on a big board is pretty much unheard of these days. Just doing that alone should be noteworthy.  This will be a true testament to the Brands coaching abilities if they can make something of this kid.

I can't tell if you aren't being fair to Chittum or are trolling.  I do suppose it could be both?

Part of the confusion is it was reported that he tested up from the Class of '23 to the Class of '22 but there was a lot if grey area there as far as where to 'class' him at?

Both the Brain and Flo did have him at (towards) the top, though, when he was still clearly thr Class of '23.

Obviously FLO and Willie had gotten word about him being dominated by the gophers depth chart at 149 and 157 and significantly cooled on him as a prospect.

Ah.  So you are trolling.

Could have played your cards a bit different and let me on a bit more.

I already explained why he was removed.  I am not ignorant as to that.

My beliefs as to his potential do not necessarily line up with people who are more smart that me (I am referring to the Brain and other gents who get paid to do this - obviously not you).

Just practicing a bit of trolling old chap, only way to improve is with some off-season practice. 🙂 Just poking some fun at the being beat in the room thing. I know the story behind the lack of final big board rating. Just makes for a "fun" talking point about Brands excellent coaching abilities when he places. I think one thing he's got going for him is 157 is not especially deep.

Well I for one am all for everyone being healthy and being the best they can be.

A better Chittum means a better Iowa.  A better Iowa is better for the state of Folkstyle and Freestyle wrestling in the USofA.
