Wish I knew how to search thread from November where I said Van Ness will be a beast and everyone told me he hasn’t beaten anyone and hold my horses..

I was just going to post something.  I've been critical of his wrestling all year, but he looked great at this tournament (from what little I was able to see).

Proof or didn’t happen.

Ah dudes legit and hopefully finds the adjustments to get to that next level up over the next few years.

Yeah. I’m not savvy enough to go back and find it. The guys who doubted me know who they were..maybe someone can dig it up

I was confused by some of the earlier posts which said Van Ness had no offense, only straight on attacks, but held my tongue.  He did have issues with certain wrestlers but he never, never backs down.  I don't think he had a stalling call all season.  He is the kind of wrestler with a high ceiling.

Why critical?  Has had some tough matches early but definetly learned from them. Believe it or not the one guy I didn’t want to see in this tournament was Murin. Had a good feeling he’d handle Johnson and Henson

People are clueless. I didn’t hold my tongue back after his first match of the year and got attacked. Anyone that know what they’re watching new the potential this kid has

It would be one thing if he was a Senior, but almost all underclassmen are going to have moments, especially early in the season, where they make dumb mistakes, wrestle ugly, and/or look out classes by experienced competition.  Learning and adjusting as the season progresses is the standard and he clearly got some of it figured out by the post season.

Oh come on, predicting one of the top recruits in the country wrestling for the top program in the country is going to be a beast is not exactly going out on a limb.

I claimed he’d be top 4 this year and he’s right where I stated he’d be in November?  Where’s your prediction of a freshman to AA this year?

so in your opinion every top 10 recruit is an AA their freshman year??  Nope..only the special ones

I’m just saying it’s not a prediction that at the time people would have been so  surprised to see happen. Everyone knew he was good and PSU does this all the time.

That’s the point of my post today. I got laughed at the time..

He was much more offensively challenged than I expected, but credit where it's due, the matches I've seen at the tournament, he's looked great.

I have been talking van ness up for years and have many times predicted him to AA this year …and I agree with you that there’s been a lot of doubt and slander going in about him this year … really thought he could take out yianni last night , he’s finally consistently wrestling the pace that made him great in high school and he’s going to keep getting better

Just checked ..in 2021 top 10 Big Board only 2 AA'd as freshman (Hamiti/Van Ness).  on 2022 Big Board only 3 that AA'd are Haines/Mendez/Henson

So 5 guys out of 2021/2022 top 10 final rankings AA'd as freshman..not that easy not matter where you were coming in.

I wish people would give more credit to these kids rather than say..oh they were great coming in...no easy feet to AA.

People say that about everyone who looks like the next PSU stud. Until they actually prove it.

Van Ness really found his game and confidence at NCAAs.  Peaked at the right time.

Finishes 3rd after a 12th seeding.

Won 5 matches (including high quality victories over Parko, Paniero Johnson, and Henson).

He gave Yianni all he could handle for 6 minutes and was leading him into the last minute.

He will likely be ranked first or second at the start of next season (not sure of everyone who returns at this point).

Beau Bartlett also had a great tournament.  Finished 3rd after being seeded 6th.  5-1 in the tourney.

Another guy who certain fans said wouldn't amount to much, even if he was going to drop to 141. Heck, throw in Levi Haines. His biggest supporter here was dubbed "Mrs. Haines".

Took all but four seconds to find while sitting in a bar ~16 beers and twelve shots of Jack in... Small efforts:

There is nothing there claiming Top 4?

Also nothing in there seems preposterous except the ice you needed for being so butthurt that everybody wouldn't just agree with you, @Pish

Well..happy they agree now.  I just don't get people don't know what they're watching until the end.  You can watch certain kids and just know they have "IT"

I dont have to wait till NCAA's to know I was right, but glad it worked out

LOL...right? I didn't see him taking a 3rd coming into the tournament, but he's a blue chip recruit at PSU.

I'm skeptical people were down on Van Ness so much as they were likely arguing he wasn't a stud just yet.

I've had Haines winning it as a Freshmen since the middle of last year. If ANYONE is Mrs. Haines...it's me!
