Which wrestling coaches have actually been let go in recent memory?  I can't imagine the list is very long.

Zalesky at Oregon State.  Poeta, however that wasn't performance related.  Who else?

You would think Logan would be a likely hire over Jaggers?

I could assume but don't know if J wants it right now or will when it is open to be honest. when Tom steps away to a likely Dresser roll j will be going on twenty years as a loyal assistant. His kids will be of an age he may want to be more hands on. I don't want to speak for him

I don't see jaggers leaving Ohio state to coach elsewhere. He has had opportunities and he is a Buckeye.

Logan would be the next man up. I could see entire staff staying with an additional practice corner coach filling toms spot not to head coaching job just number four.

Did Cody and/or Rosselli get let go? or did they both step down?  Peters at Pitt but also not performance related

Wasn't J Robinson let go at Minnesota and CD Mock at UNC. Those 2 come to mind as being most recent.

Pretty sure J Robinson was let go for reason besides wrestling results, and I vaguely remember something about CD Mock and some off the mat issues.

I thought Roselli and Cody were let go because of lack of wrestling results and Henson at WVU and Kerry McCoy at Maryland as well.

Didn't Mock defend his son against an unfounded SA accusation, and the school didn't like him publicly commenting?  Or am I totally misremembering?

Craig Henning got screwed in the 2007 NCAA Finals.

JRob lied for his wrestlers. Roselli should have stayed in CBUS (for him and for the Buckeyes.

Moran and Washington took until their last seasons to AA

Sollars - Fargo AA and super 32 placer, hasn't developed as quickly as his HS rival stephen little

Sam Goin - top 100 recruit out of HS

Gavin Jendreas - was top 20 nationally at his weight in HS, still has time

Robert Major - fargo AA, never really cracked the lineup

Alec Freeman - multiple state placer, never was a regular starter

Rooks twins - had some solid wins in their careers but never could reach AA status

Asa Garcia - 3x state champ, top 10 nationally in his weight, transferred out

Transfers like Orlando Cruz and Logan Frazier - jury is still out on them

These guys were all Indiana "hammers" that went to IU and didn't do as well as people hoped/thought they would

Then throw in missing out on every single "elite" prospect in Indiana like Mendez, Jake Hockaday, Zeke Seltzer, and Christian Carroll, it should make his seat warm

Maybe they should have gone to U of I instead of IU

Another that comes to mind is Barry Davis at Wisconsin. Was it his choice to leave or was he relieved of his duties?

Davis's departure felt a lot like Minkle and Goldman. Many years of mediocre results (or terrible results for Minkle) led to him being pressured to move on/retire. It did not seem like an outright firing.

I don't think Chris will get a shot at a HC spot after his recent "tampering" with a recruit incident.

Lou should have gone to Edinboro when Flynn left. He had a hard time getting those tough NE kids to go to Oklahoma, but he would have been able to get them to go to the Boro. Now that AJ is back at the Boro, that HC job should be sealed when Hill decides to hang it up.

Lou and Cody got to OU when all they wanted was someone to raise funds. One of the many things that Spates messed up at OU. Spates was great at raising money and spending it too! OU loved the idea of a coach raising a lot of money and that was the blueprint they tried to impose on Lou and Cody. Lou also cut the low hanging fruit or they transferred out.

Agreed, but selfishly wanted him to stay.

No I don't blame you! I didn't think he had enough time to right the ship at OU. He has a lot of great cradle stuff and it would have been nice to see those OU guys buy in and start using that.

I got the impression that Tom basically pushed him out for his own good. Any truth to that?

I agree that it felt like Davis got pressured to retire, but he still had 15 Top 20 seasons and won Coach of the Year in 2010.  He also took over a program that was hit by sanctions when Rein got fired, and ran a clean program.  Only blip I can remember was when Donnie thought he was going to retire earlier than he did, and felt like he was owed the head job.  That whole fiasco caused a rift in the program and some wrestlers left with Frayer when Donnie was let go by Barry Alverez.

I thought of 2 more coaches who I believe were let go for under performance, both from the same institution. Jim Beichner and John Stutzman, both from Buffalo. As I heard from one alumni, they did the least with the most resources.

Bono isn’t in the hot seat. Wisconsin is trying to right the football ship, and, as long as minor programs don’t have controversy or make demands, the coaches are safe. The Badgers have quite a few academic Big Ten and AA’s each year, which means more than Big 10 champs and AA’s to the administration. Barry always put solid teams on the mat, but, more than anything, Barry wasn’t needy. He took what he was given, didn’t complain and made the most of it while following the rules. I think Bono knows he needs to do the same if he wants job security (but not necessarily “success”).

That's a solid take and know several coaches in similar situations outside the b10

Has anyone had any success at Buffalo?
