I also heard Seidel-Ono were both approached and both agreed but one of them's coaches nixed it

I can't stand it when coaches duck the all-star meet, but I would make an exception here.  It would be coaching malpractice to allow Ono's first match to be against Seidel.

That's a confidence-killing tech waiting to happen right there.  Let Ono build up his bottom skills against other guys for a few more months first.

I was told he was already good on bottom repeatedly last year

Pretty certain didn't lose a single match last year due to bottom skill or lack thereof.

If I'm being perfectly honest, I would not block out a Saturday night to watch this event. A lot of these matchups would be moderately interesting in a natural dual format, but they don't really move the needle as must see matches. The most interesting match-up you listed is what.. Cannon vs Watters? That's essentially like a 5th/6th place match at NCAAs being arguably the most exciting bout of an "All-Star" card. They need true title contenders and elite opponents if this event is going to be worth having.

I am not going to disagree with you. As was stated earlier, PSU wrestlers do not usually participate in this event. And then many top matchups would happen later in the year in the Big 10 conf, either through dual or the tournament. If they wrestle at the all-star, then they may avoid in the dual and diminish the conference dual.

Either way, figure a way to make it interesting and not compromise duals later on. My earlier suggestion was just a way to get a conversation started on developing a lineup.

PSU had 5 of their starters wrestle in this event just 2 years ago in 2024. Last year they didn't have any, but 7 guys in their starting lineup were just coming off of the mat at U23s. I wouldn't rule out their guys from competing.

Robie talked about the All-Star classic a couple months ago on a supporters call.  IIRC, at the time he said VT is sending Eddie V vs Lilledahl; Henson vs SVN and Bo against TBD.

Eddie is an awful choice for the All Star

But what if the wrestling were replaced by a best 2 out of 3 (or 3 of 5) all out dodgeball event between Penn St and OSU (coach subs included), ESPN with the broadcast, JB & John Smith on the mic?

OSU has no chance. No one can out dodge Carl. They practice this dodge thing.

I can't tell if this is a joke or not, but, in the four years since the event restarted, PSU has had wrestlers compete in three of those years.

In 2022, Brooks, Starocci, Kerkvliet all wrestled.

In 2023, Penn State had SVN, Starocci, Brooks, Truax and Kerkvliet participate.

In 2024, Penn State had BB, SVN, Kasak, Haines, and Starocci.

Even with the year they didn't participate, Penn State has the largest number of participants since 2022.

What if they focused the event on JRs/SRs from different conferences that are highly ranked. We know PSU probably will not send anyone and we do not want to see some of the Big 10 matchups already, so what if it looked something like this....

125 - Marc-Anthony McGowan JR Princeton v. Vincent Robinson JR Nebraska

133 - Tyler Knox JR Stanford v Jacob Van Dee SR Nebraska

141 - Luke Stanich JR Lehigh v Evan Frost SR ISU

149 - Caleb Henson SR VT v Ryder Block JR Iowa

157 - Brandon Cannon JR tOSU v Ty Watters JR WVU

165 - Nicco Ruiz JR AZST v Joey Blaze SR Purdue

174 - Jaxon Smith SR tOSU v Danny Wask SR NAVY

184 - Max McEnelly JR Minnesota v Eddie Neitenbach JR Wyoming

197 - Stephen Little SR UALR v Branson John JR Maryland

285 - Konner Doucet SR OKST v Nick Feldman SR tOSU

Again, I focused on top 10 (everyone is top 7 or better), only used those who are listed as juniors/seniors on intermat, and tried to get out of conference matchups.

Go ahead and rip it apart, but I feel matchups like this can bring excitement to the event.

I would still watch these matches 💯

I would watch because it’s folkstyle college wrestling, but I agree that they could do better than this. I also recognize that it was a list thrown out to stir up conversation, not a serious, final draft of a list being brought to the attention of a committee or organization to attempt a change. I just think a few of these matches would be uneventful and/or not close, and stylistically there could be more interesting matches on a card, hence my gripes. But, most of all of that was covered by others and revisited by others. All wrestling is good wrestling.  Except Greco.

I mean he wrestled Sheldon Seymour in it last year.  I'm not always thrilled with his matches, but he was definitely active in that one, and it was a rematch of a high scoring match in NCAA tourney.

To be honest, 23 and 24, when they had 5 each, where was the event hosted. It was at Penn St. If he did not have all those, then what would the perception had been to host and not have many participants. Outside of the 3 years you listed, only 2017 had 3, every other one since 2013 was either 0 or 1 (David Taylor in 2013, all 0s otherwise).

Counter argument: Which of the returning AAs is a better choice?

Unfortunately, they're pretty much all the same..

It's obvious that Cael's never read Goldilocks and the Three bears. He always sends too few or too many wrestlers to the All-Star Classic.

My sources tell me he drills bottom and escapes 83% of the time.

@Jon_Kozak wondering if we will have any word on this event soon? It was Nov 1st last year so I assumed we would have a date and location and matches trickling out around this time.

Will not be Nov 1 this year - announcement coming very soon!

I mean, I guess if you take out all the years where they had guys compete it's pretty clear that Penn State has never sent a wrestler to this.
