Well we both know we're all nerds living in the glow of the gif genius here!

Anyway, love the off-road detour.  I don't get the chance to think on philosophy much anymore.

it ain't the worst de-railed thread.

I would not trust anyone else's interpretation because its bastardized from right and left. I agree increasingly with the book in theme as time goes on, but it can't be read because its hyper hyper hyper repetitive, has really flat characters (especially john galt), and its antagonists are ridiculous strawmen.

The repetitiveness made me drop it after ~400 pages.

One of my college professors used to start his lectures by the saying that he was going to ‘ tell em what you’re going to tell em, tell em then tell em what you’ve told them’. I guess this repetition was his method of inculcating the material into his students -Do you think the repetition in the book relates  to the  author wanting the points to stick with reader?

I haven’t read the book so just a speculation

its not a terrible notion, but atlas shurgged is like 1200 pages, so it that was the point of the repetition Rand was really thorough. For an idea what the book is like, I believe the book ends (again i did not finish it) on john galt giving a speech that goes on for like 60 pages.....after some research it is around 35,000 words....its laborious.

🙂 She needed the same editor that Robert Caro had for The Power Broker.  It was crazy long, like 1200 pages, but surprisingly and wonderfully readable because Bob Gottlieb famously chopped out several hundred more pages.

yeah, i guess I'd sum it by saying there are books that long that justify their length, I think they are all written by genius'. Its not an insult to say I don't consider Rand a genius.

Gottlieb said that, in addition to making it more readable, there was a business practical reason he had to edit The Power Broker down so much:  The length Caro submitted the book at would have literally broken the spine of any book after they put it all on the printed page.

Didn't realize it was possible to hit a 3.8 MB limit spamming gifs. Honestly I'm impressed!

Bassett looks like he is in better shape than anyone in the world in wrestling. In a sport that has rampant PED issues, do you think he might be on EPO or blood doping? His family had no issue age cheating in high school and once a cheater, always a cheater. Something seems off to me.

Except he didn't age cheat.

He's old for his grade but followed all rules.

Tell me what rule he broke...

It is you who is performing gymnastics of the mental variety, sir!

(For the record, I'd like to see him win a gold medal at Worlds but never win a single collegiate match.... he's old, and it is ridiculous, but he didn't cheat)

if there isn't an advantage to holding your kid back twice for high school wrestling, then why do it?

Didn't say there wasn't an advantage... just not cheating.  Not like when the Russians entered 20 year old Saduleev in cadets lol.

Is extra drilling cheating?  It gives an advantage!

so angle shooting the rules to gain a clear advantage (which you admit is the case) is fair?

I think maybe "age - bullying" may be more accurate.

I don't like it, but it wasn't cheating.  India "age cheats"

answer my question. is it fair?

Will he beat folks like Mamedov, Sujit or Amouzad?
