I would love to see him and JB both give it a go.

is JB making a run....i know he hasn't retired officially but obviousl time isn't on his side.

Father time is undefeated...

That said, he has said quite a few times that he 'obviously still wants to compete' but hasn't really committed one way or the other.

That makes me think that he is going to make one last go of it... and that one last go is for 2028.  By giving 2028 one last go, I think he goes 2027 to try to get that bye to the semi-finals (if he goes 79 KG, for 74 KG or 86 KG) or outright goes 74 KG for a bye to the finals.

I said it darn near a decade ago and I stand by it: Nolf is an enigma. I think I said something along the lines of "he may never make a world team, or he may be the greatest wrestler in US history and neither will surprise me."

He couldn't get past Imar until his shoulder gave out and he couldn't get past JB until Father Time finally struck midnight only for Benjamin Dakebutton to snatch his soul.

I thought that maybe Nolf's senior career, or lack thereof, would be the jolting cattle prod for Carl to go all-in on the FS scene with his most elite, but seeing Nickal and Starocci exit much quicker says otherwise. He wants folkstyle, he will recruit the best freestyle, and that's that.

i am an idiot on the internet

Has a loss to Wick...

Nolf has looked much better since RAF 01…like he might actually practice wrestling every so often now. I wonder what his training situation is like for wrestling, and, if he were to make a run in 28, would he go back to State College? Seems like he has a lot going on down in Texas.

Nolf has said multiple times his only interest as far as wrestling is concerned is RAF right now...

with what he makes there and the level of commitment it takes to be successful in RAF, there is absolutely no reason for him to go back to trying to make teams...

He trains with a NQ from Michigan and a few other guys.

But there was a match with a ref and a timer and scorekeeper and he lost.

I like the guy a lot as a personality and a wrestler, but he did lose.  I agree he has looked better since, but not a slam dunk by any means.

pretty sure that NQ from Michigan is Myles Amine.

but yes, Nolf has looked a ton better since RAF01.

Hamiti is out for quite a while so we're probably gonna have to have an interim belt at Middleweight.

Nolf will be at the top of the list.

I quite like that he is a RAF-only wrestler. kinda unique.

Nolf trains with Tyler Messinger, who works at Flo Sports. They've talked about it several times on FRL. He was a 32 or 33 seed at NCAA's a few years ago.

Nolf lost to Wick under RAF rules 10-8 when he wasn't training freestyle that much.  He has also tech-ed Wick twice (10-0 both times) in previous World Team and Olympic Trials.

He also works out with Myles Amine regularly.

Not really Unique.  Covington, Tsarukian, Ortega, Palmer, Pico, Mugsy, Georgio, Khinchegashvili, Downey, Beebee, DiJoulious and more.  There are a ton of RAF only wrestlers.

Would’ve beat Alex Marinelli if the tournament didn’t get canceled 🥱

I wouldn't put too much stock into that loss.

Yes, but it shows he's not a "next topic" under his current situation, which I do not forsee changing...

Maybe not at 79 KG.

We're talking 74 KG and we're talking about the version that has more than 46 minutes in the prior month of mat time for conditioning.

Wick was 74 kg too, correct?

Again, in an alternate universe where he was lighter, didn't own multiple businesses, wasn't interested in BJJ, and still trained at NLWC he might be "next topic."

In his current situation he is "in the mix," even if he ups his mat time to 47 minutes in a month.

But what if we throw MM in?

No. Wick weighed in at 174.6 and Nolf at 174.4 for RAF 01. I’m guessing making 74kg negatively affects Wick far more than Nolf.
