Owen McMullen- who wrestled as high as 189 his SO year of HS (beating PA state medalists) and was a state medalist level guy at 172 is entered at 61kg for this. Just insane how much we was wrestling up for the sake of the team back then

I have seen a lot of negative sentiment about dee on X. Namely brought on by a tweet by Beshada where he said Robideau came out of nowhere this year despite having beaten Melvin soundly at whos 1 winning super 32 his senior year and then making the open and u20 finals last year beating joy and Melvin again but Thats besides the point. In that tweet he also said Dee is the most stock down guy this past year. I think its pretty easy to be down on Dee because he has not won the last two tournaments he entered but I honestly thought he wrestled great against Jayden. I personally did not expect him to have a lead with less than a minute left in either match, after all Jayden beat Quincy and had Carr on the ropes so for Dee to absolutely be in the match to me was great for him. I think Jayden is just super special.

I think both of those takes were horrible, as well.

I will go Devil's Advocate a bit, with my tinfoil hat:

Why would Swiderski go 74 KG and not 70 KG?  Does he believe he can beat Dee and not Landon?

I did not see Downey was entered at 74 KG.

If Ruiz is the favorite, Downey is 1a.

Dee just doesn't look like he has the same drive to win that he used to and that guys like Landon do. Both times he lost to Jayden he seemed more okay with it than I would expect of a guy that caliber. But in terms of talent and ability he is absolutely a finalist candidate this year if he starts and someone who can make more world teams in the future

I am curious if it is/was weight driven?

I know he is a 74 KG guy, but going 174lbs for the season and going 79 KG aside for qualifying tournaments (where he goes 74 KG) might be best for him.

In the stilly boys video it seemed like he took nationals extremely poorly, I wonder if the way he acted was more of a defense mechanism to not feel that way again but feeling loss like that is going to drive you a lot more than shrugging it off. Ultimately if its better for him in the long term to deal with loss that way then I'm glad but I would imagine it makes it much harder to get to the pinnacle of the mountain.

What weird commentary.  The guy loses two close matches and you somehow declare he cares less?  An absurd take.

Not when the guy destroyed the guy he just lost to in two straight matches a year ago and made little effort at the last 20 seconds of a two straight loss result.

Yeah, that is the thing that stuck out to me. He put forth Harvey Ludington levels of effort at the end of both matches

Get out of here.  I'm pretty sure David Carr would have destroyed James a year ago.  It's absurd to argue James is the same guy today as a year ago.  You don't believe that even a little bit.  I don't understand why you would even go there.

I am a Dee fan and I want him to do well but he spends a lot of his match time waiting around in both wins and losses. Or at least it looks that way.

Because I actually watched the match.

We're talking Dee Locket, not Jayden James (who has improved) and David Carr (who has either regressed or is in a slump).

Dee Locket.

Low Effort Dee Locket.

Imagine the progression he would have had if he bought in to the system the same way as Forrest, Vega, and Robideau (or Valencia or Hamiti or Pindrickson... and others).

Nah.  He would rather not even try the last 30 seconds of a one score match, two matches in a row... with a world team spot on the line.

It won't get any easier for him.

It honestly looks like he is more interested in the title of 'Being a Cowboy' than actually being part of DT's Cowboys.

Interesting take. Why do you say this?

(My take: In neutral, he looks like he has the same game plan/technical problem/mental block that JO and Chris Perry had.)

Or on the chance Dee redshirts or goes up.

But are there redshirts?  😉

Conspiracy theory time: what if Dee felt like it was wrestling overseas last summer that led to him losing steam over the course of the season last year so he decided to indulge David Taylor by entering this tournament (to get DT off his back) but never actually intended to win the spot?

Big win for Noah Tolentino 8-4 over Manville, would love to see him drop down to 141 for his last season I think he can make some noise there.

Henckel pinned for at least 18 seconds . . . ref didn't want to call it. Dude was flat on his back for the first 5 seconds. Sucks for Team USA as Henckel is clearly the best guy at this weight, but those are the breaks. Gaitan is dangerous like that, and it was a thing of beauty; executed perfectly.

I don’t think they redshirt clause benefits anyone that was class of 2025 or younger.

Also, Norman at 174lbs next season, right?

I say it because he seemed wishy washy when DT was named HC.  The other guys double downed, he didn't do so in the same manner.  Vega switched commitments, Forrest came out of HS mid-season, and Robideau obviously bought in.  Dee showed regression throughout the season and there was no whispers of injury.  If there wasn't regression, then others got better and he did not.

I am probably just annoyed because he obviously has talent... he just wants to play the Focus game of hanging out on his knees.  It is embarrassing to watch, for me.  I wouldn't have advocate any of my kids model a style after his, when facing elite competition.

Norman would be the expected 174 but stuff happens.  Maybe Casey is putting himself in the best position to be a starter or backup as needed.

5 and 5 hasn't yet passed correct?

Also who is gonna be the first kid to sue that the birth certificate is wrong and he/she is being deprived Civil Rights to play sports?  Or who is gonna sue parents, elementary school & NCAA claiming held back under false hope, against will and lack of full knowledge of changing rules & regulations?    🤔
