Alot of suprising coach movement so far

The brands finally sending Telford out to pasture.

Reader decided he rather leave the sport and be a roofer then spend another season with Bono. I don’t blame him. Still an opening at Wisconsin

Mytych out at Rutgers. Blames NIL landscape. Ashnault leaving Princeton to replace him.

This is going to become a bigger issue... Just in this off-season alone there have been many assistant coaches leaving coaching all together because of the landscape of college wrestling. We had one just resign this week. View it from the perspective of the assistant coach. You travel a ton... gone for 3 days every weekend for a dual and if you aren't you are traveling to recruit. Just when the season ends, you are on the phone 24/7 and traveling more to recruit. You are trying to keep that kid you personally recruited and have gotten them to the NCAA tourney, when you get the text they are going in the portal. You find out donors from other schools are offering what your school can't compete with.  Your family suffers because of your schedule... your mind suffers because you are constantly trying to figure out how to keep guys, but at the same time who you can recruit if they do leave. You work you butt off developing guys and having great success, but you lose them to a program that has more money...and then you watch them decline. You are a great coach, but great coaches dont' win in this landscape, money does. You may think this is exaggeration... it is not. Coaches are outright leaving wrestling. A lot of them have degrees and a lot of connections to get a "regular" job that pays just as much if not more to do a 1/3 of the work and to be at home. I don't blame them.

Yep. Depending on the school you’re at it’s probably not worth it. I’m sure assistants at most of the P4 schools make good money but assistants at smaller schools probably make Pennies.

It was already known he was going to step down right? I feel like I remember seeing someone talk about how it would be his last NCAAs with the team, even with it being their turn to "host" next year. What was his reasoning?

Yea they announced last year that Thomas would takeover April 1st with Spates blessing and spates will stay on the staff as an assistant. Everything I read basically says Thomas is a better fit to be head coach/ceo of a program in today’s landscape and Spates just wants to focus on the wrestling side of things and not all the stuff head coaches have to do.

What happened???

Josh resigned and is leaving coaching. Nothing improper or anything - He is one great guy. He is a casualty of what coaching D1 wrestling does to a person.

Jacob Warner replacing Telford at Iowa . It should immediately help Iowa with their problem of wrestling boring 1 takedown matches.

Huh! Immediately?

So did Iowa reach out to Metcalf and ISU promoted him to keep him or was this the plan all along?

both are extremely unlikely...unless you mean Iowa wanted him as an assistant yeah that makes sense.
