Shocked Davino wasn’t called for stalling. Don’t recall him taking a shot.

No... a PSU guy getting favorable treatment from the refs? Say it isn't so lol

How do you coach someone to wrestle against Jax?

How Davino wrestled. Pick your shots and slow the match down.

I love this.  Absolutely love it.

I desperately wish i was in the PSU fan's position of celebrating a title.  But the 2nd best outcome is watching bitter PSU fans unravel and watch matches hunting for tiny openings to insult Jax Forest.

Great match from Jax.  Absolutely controlled every second from every position.  It's so impressive to see him win at that style.  Like he said after, he likes being crazy, but he's also better at control than anyone else.  He can dominate an opponent however they want to be dominated.

Jax with a …. Classic all time historic win?   When will we ever say again that dude was in his school like 3 months ago.   Crazy.

Problem is there's only one other guy possibly better than Davino and that's Seidel.  We saw what happens when Jax has a second go with better Intel.

DISCLAIMER: This is not about PSU, but the finals in general..

Two matches being won 2-1 with a call stall being the deciding factor is disappointing. Not necessarily bothered by the calls, but that guys are so reluctant to wrestle that we are having to decide matches by which guy was more active.

With the stalling that's been allowed all season, the finals is kind of an interesting time to start calling it. I'm not really bothered by it though, Minto and McGowan didn't wrestle like they wanted to win.

I think one way to stop this is call stalling earlier and more frequently. For example, if McGowan got called twice in the first period then he would’ve had to start attack more and there wouldn’t be enough time for LL to back up for four minutes so it should create more action and if both guys refuse to engage and just kinda stare at each other than hit both and if necessary just dq both but that is extreme cases. Point is you don’t want to punish a guy for taking ground and trying to engage but the other disengages or backs away so you just call stalling more

Not sure what you can really take away from that Davino match. I guess that he can ride him, but not sure he had much of a feel for him. I could be wrong.

Not sure if this in relation to the 125 match. Sorry if not. Two guys actually wrestled Luke Lilledahl in the last two NCAA tournaments: Troy Spratley and the one that pinned Spencer Lee. What does that tell you?

This assumes a lot considering McGowan didn't start attacking more when he was losing with time running out.

He would've turned him but didn't need to that late.  Next time he'll get that first takedown and have a lot more time for back points.

For McGowan it wouldn't have changed a thing.  He was stalled out of the match the last time they wrestled in February.  The guy just doesn't engage.  He makes Will Lewan look like Jax Forrest

That's definitely possible, but Davino is a tough out. Was that the first time he was taken down this year?

Well then he gets stalled out until he changes or the coaches put someone else in

Honestly, I don't have a problem with how it was called. In fact, I've been arguing for the last couple of months that this is how I would like stalling to be called. You shouldn't get to wrestle like McGowan and be able to make it to OT tied 1-1.

My only gripe is that they have let people like McGowan get away with this all season, and then they decided to actually start making the call in the NCAA finals. You can't start enforcing stalling in the finals after letting it happen all season.

Again, I don't have much of a gripe because if you wrestle hoping to go to OT/rideouts, I don't have much sympathy for you. Try to win the match by wrestling, not by abusing lenience for stalling.

If they start calling matches this way consistently, you'll see guys change their styles and the do nothing strategy will no longer be viable. Again, after watching it happen all year with impunity, it was a little weird to see it because enforced in the finals.

Good call.  I'm sure the Princeton coaches will put someone else in because McGowan isn't aggressive enough in the finals.

But MAM got stalled out in the dual. So he’d already had the experience.

Yet, still did the exact same thing.

That was so weird. I don’t get it at all. Was he hoping LL would take a shot to extend his lead, and he’d be able to counter?

Tbh I can’t tell if this is sarcasm or not? But also if it was called aggressively all season and McGowan kept losing because he was stalling then maybe coaches change or maybe he just loses that way way before the finals

That’s true but for most ppl it may apply or if McGowan was giving up points because of stalling earlier in the tourney

This is such a weird assumption that has come up a few times in the last hour.  The bad stallers in the finals aren't stalling because they can get away with it, they are stalling because they have no offense and opening up will get them beat worse.  If you call McGowan for stalling in all of the matches where he can't score and resorts to stalling, it will look exactly like how he was officiated this year.  It only became an issue for him when he wrestled Liledahl.  Calling more stalling isn't going to force him to beat Liledahl.
