I'm in freaking Bangkok, Thailand, watching through a VPN and SLING TV, everything is solid.  My longest buffer wasnt more than three seconds.

Dear NCAA,

Please, please, never let ESPN broadcast wrestling again!

My local HS team does a better live feed with zero resources and a couple of dads, probably also drinking beer, as the announcers.

Our state tournament in Wisconsin did light-years better broadcasting the best action in a quad screen.

ESPNs main channel feed cut away from sudden death matches to show us the last takedown of a second period tech fall. This is what a sports broadcast you are intentionally trying to ruin looks like.

Thanks,

MATFISH

Ok sure ... but what's on the menu for today?  😋

Something that took us a couple days to figure out in bangkok - the food at the stalls is the same as the food thats served in the restaurants, but at  very small fraction of the cost.  seems there is a bit of a dual economy for tourist vs local, but you can enjoy it as a tourist on locals prices if you do it right

Better infra than anywhere in the US. Your local cafe slinging coffee in a bag has 10x better wifi than in the states

I had no problems and felt like it was good.

ESPN is doing a fine job.

Sounds like you need to subscribe to ESPN+ to get the mat by mat, real time coverage by Shane Sparks.

The main ESPN feed isn't meant for hardcore fans. That's where ESPN+ comes in.

Yep.  The main feed today was obviously more like the manning cast then announcing.  It wasn't great.  But why in the world would I be watching the main feed when they give me all 8 mats individually or all 8 at once on the matcast.

Why in the world? Hmmm...

Personally, I watch the main ESPN feed on TV1 and the MATCAST on TV2.

I also pick select matches to watch during the action on TV3 and TV4.

It's all good - except to monitor audio. Main ESPN feed needs to be dialed down. The rest adjusted as we go.

I meant why in the world would you watch the main feed if you were trying to follow a specific match.

I'm similar in my setup.  Main feed on the TV.  Windows on my laptops for the matches I care about.  Volume back and forth depending on the individual match I'm watching.  The main feed audio is either muted or treated as a soundtrack/background for the tournament when it's not.

ESPN gives me super reliable streams with every option to cater whatever I want.

We are in agreement - ESPN isn't a problem at all.

Getting the AV setup at home to be just right can be a bit of a challenge for some. Seems you've nailed it.

Agreed. It appears that @Matfish is having difficulties. He's made two career posts. His open letter in this thread didn't get much support, so he attempted to start a new thread attempting to start a fan petition against ESPN.

Anyone who knows anything can tell him the game plan is simple: DO NOT WATCH THE MAIN BROADCAST - that's for drive-by fans. Knowledgeable fans watch MATCAST on their large TV and dial-in to bouts of interest on their tablet, PC, or laptop.  Oh, and make sure you read and understand Disney/Hulu/ESPN's streaming plan and packages prior to the start of competition.

During the 2nd session my son and I dragged in a bunch of TVs and had lots of wrestling and some basketball going at the same time.  Hulu eventually said it was too many screens at once.  So on my laptop I had to open ESPN+ instead of Hulu (even though I pay for both in the same bundle).  Like you said, you need to know your streaming packages and what they'll allow.

On the main overall broadcast with Jordan Burroughs & Co it is OK - except for the closer in segments. On those they are playing music that wipes out what is being said.

Maybe those with perfect hearing are OK with it but "military hearing" is not. Too much time around loud noises takes a toll and part of that is discrimination between competing sounds - especially when trying to pick voices out of the mix.

Cut the music - it is an add on trying to drum up importance somehow. We want to hear what is being said.

Everyone has their own flavor so not at all arguing your set up here, but I do the opposite.  Matcast on the device and switch to specific mats on the big TV for feature matches, trackwrestling on the phone to see the upcoming mat assignments. Do this mainly for the stadium surround sound set up on the TV.  I think my living room walls shook when Lockett got decked.

For those of you enjoying the event free of issues, good for you - but what about those experiencing difficulties? You know the ones by the 1000’s who will take to the internet to vent their frustrations like years in the past. This is my first time in decades without Comcast and it’s been nothing but problems yesterday. I have very strong views about this situation but will refrain from voicing that here out of respect for those who do care.

I don’t think I can reduce my font size on my Apple TV so not being able to see the mat number is frustrating. Is there a trick I’m missing?

Dear Matfish,

This seems like a you problem, and not an NCAA/ESPN problem, as I and so many others have been quite satisfied with the production.  ESPN+ streams every mat, so there is no "cut away" at inopportune times.  The MATCAST has all mats on screen simultaneously, so, again, no "cut away."

Thanks,

🤷‍♂️ Working fine for me. ESPN on Fubo on the big screen. ESPN+ on my iPad. Everything labeled, easy to switch between. I check the little mat bar thing that scrolls between who’s on now and who’s on next and switch to ESPN+ individual mat view as needed. Haven’t missed a match I wanna see and seen just about everything else. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Sounds like you need a better ISP. You either chose to accept worse or didn't look into it, or you're learning that you get what you pay for if you went to a different provider that is inferior.
