Yeah 65 is an actual mess in terms of predicting who is going to win it every year. I think it also has do to with the fact that the vast majority of countries can field top level guys at that weight class. Compare that to 57 or 125 where the number of elite guys is far less purely due to genetics. It is very unlikely you will find an elite 125 from Japan or an elite 57 from Iran because of that. I also think there is a lot of parity because its pretty much impossible to prep for 8-10 high level guys for a worlds/olympics. Olympics last year had Muszukaev, Dudaev, Amouzad, Retherford, Kiyooka, Rivera, Aliyev, Ochir, Akmataliev and Tevanyan. More than half of the guys in the bracket were world/olympic medalists. That's just stupid depth. So a little under performance in one match can cost you a medal. I think this is where the Russian guys benefit the most because of how nuts their brackets are domestically they are used to it so they better navigate through. Whereas in Iran and US there isn't as much depth domestically so our guys aren't as used to these sort of brackets.

Amouzad is the last guy to go unscathed in a calendar year I believe prior to winning his title. I believe that was only over 2 tournaments though, I think Otoguro did the same in 2021 also over 2 tournaments. Kiyooka and Musuakev both took losses the same year they won.

How could I see them as less than anything when I don't know them other then they broke the law and came here, or are here illegally and thus, they should be held accountable for breaking the law....the same way I feel if someone isn't an illegal alien and they break the law, they too need to be held accountable. Certainly the school has had a huge scandal, one of the biggest, most awful ever. But wrestlers getting nailed for PEDs, drinking, and prostitution, does not rise to the level of scandal. Unseemly, sure, but not scandalous. The things alleged by the Bartlett's are criminal. It seems that crimes should be reported to the police and investigated by the police. And at least one was. The police found no evidence to support the claim. Maybe it happened anyway. Some thieves get away with it. And some accused of crimes, never commit any. Let's face it. Starocci is unlikeable. Definitely Fadzaev. Dude dominated 65kg for a decade straight, winning World/Olympic gold from '83 to '92. The only year in there he missed was '84 due to boycott. No one since has come close to that. The most recent streak is likely Gevorgyan from Armenia who won world gold consecutively in '95, '97 and '98, but placed 5th in 1996 Olympics, losing to our very own Townsend Saunders in the semis, effectively breaking his streak. Crazy to think that's been almost 30 years ago...Yikes!

No I think he's the head of a program that has had significant scandals and shouldn't be allowed to just act like they're everyone else's problem.
